Gothic Remake |OT| Return to the Colony

They made mining ores super slow and tedius so be aware if you wanna farm some of it, prepare to lose a couple of hours of watching slow mine animations, smart thing because most people are gonna get annoyed and not use what is basically a free and infinite(?) money glitch.
He does one get into these mines!? Do you have to pick the locks!? Also is there anything to explain lock picking I'm confused at what to do!?

Despise my initial issues with performances (which somewhat stabilized over the hours and I'm guessing shader compilation is playing a part in it) I'm enjoying this remake big time, all things considered.

Nope, free entrance, you just have to find them but they are not exactly hidden, jist run from enemies if you are in the correct path.

In the new camp they also gift you an armour.

Lockpicking is basically a small puzzle, the base level of lockpickimg is almost impossible but apparently it get better wehn you spend skill points, i havent tried myself until i put at least 1 level of mastery in it.

I was also confused...didnt understand what was the goal. But basically you want the golden pin exactly in the middle of all these plates. And once you move a plate, most of the time other plates are moving as well....think of "Rubik's cube" ;)

Started the game today morning.

Not off to a good start when the settings menu itself has issues in it, lol.

The Sharpening Intensity blurb is just a copy paste of Depth of Field.

The game itself is also so fucking brown, reminds me of Greedfall 2 ..

Not sure if I'm going to see it through to the end but I'll definitely put in some hours into it at least.

Papito the game is amazing, dont abandon it

As soon as you get some money and level up, speak to Diego in the old camp and level up strenght. This will make fights easier
Learning the one handed mastery is what make the biggest difference, you improve that then you think about stats.

Having more fluid animations, combos and dodge cancel is more useful than doing a bit more damage but still moving like pre-ozempic lizzo.

But yeah you need to put points in strenght aswell or you cant even damage some of the less than basic enemies.

I dont know if I have learn the one handed mastery but I applied like 3 points of strength in my character and I kill everything with a couple of hits. I am playing on Gothic difficulty

I love this game so much.
First thing graphics are more than good or passable it makes me wanna explore the game to see how much they improved it.
No handholding game is hard but if you know where you can go and where you are gonna be killed it's managable.
I'm thinking of going Mage or Sorcerer or how it is called.
I think replayabiltiy in a few months is also granted since you can join different camps.
All in all a real success.
Also holy moly 8.8 userscore on metacritic :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Ngl, getting armours only for joining a camp in a game where you can probably play 85% of it and doing quests for all the camps before joining one is probably not the smartest thing in the world for an RPG, it means that you are basically almost defenceless until you decide to renounce to a large part of the sidequests in the game...

I hope people were wrong and you can get good armours even before joining a camp.

Don't forget your free copy of Gothic 1 Classic, if you buy Gothic Remake for PS5 or XSX. G1C has all the community patches, a graphics make-over option (discount remaster), as well as full controller support. I just finished it on my Xbox One X. It is also available for Nintendo Switch.

Think I read or heard you're right. Basically fuck around with all of the camps, and once you pick one you're saying you found the one you like and want to progress the game.

I've only been in old camp so far. Wanna check these swamp boys out to get some weed and magic.

Swamp camp is SO good but you can get lost easily.
Also don't forget to get your daily ration of Swampweed for free, lol.

Just installed it.

KaiRo's soundtrack booming on the main menu, get absolutely raped and two shotted by a molerat, picking everything up like a tramp. We're back boys.

That's being min maxy. Your armour is your status within the camps, and you can get the shadows gear pretty quickly. But then you've gotta be a Gomez's bitch gimp and an old camp lackey. If you wanna be a big dicked bro then you join Lee's camp. And if you want the unfinished path you joined the swampy's (hopefully expanded in this)

Armours are your major point of progression in the game. Then your weapon skills. There's no other RPG quite like it to give you such a boost in power and prestige, and open the world up more for exploration. (Unless you're a pro at the combat)

People absolutely complained about it 20 odd years ago, and that's why in Gothic 2 they added intermediate armour's to the game before your chose a faction. :P

I talked some shit, got beat and robbed. Says something to sit and watch someone go through your pockets.

I have mined a bit, done about 2 quests. Gaines a lvl but haven't done anything with it.

I like the lack of hand holding. Ash of steel or whatever is similar but no where near as polished....so to speak.

Playing on PC, consoles are now limited to a handful of games.

Got drax to take me to new camp and he killed a ton of monsters along the way giving me the exp and loot. Nice!

Going to see if the same happens if I ask tat man to take me to swamp camp. Should net me some exp.

I do not understand lock picking. I mean I get the mechanic but it's stupid time consuming and too much for my simple brain to keep track of for 5 things moving in different ways synced to other parts.

Sorry, it still make no sense to me to potentially play an rpg for 50+ hours and still get no fucking armour just because you dont wanna chose immediately what camp to join and fuck up all the sidequest from the other camps.

I'll make it easy, in what other rpg you need to renounce to 2/3 of the content to get a decent armour?

I cant think of any, and it is also stupid lore wise because i can find weapons and stuff in corpses but finding an armour was too unrealistic uh?

Sorry i'm not sold on this choice at all, you can chose of dying in 2 hits from everything for 50 hours or renouunce to a big ass part of the game, lore, exp points, sidequests etc., how is this good or balanced?

The thing is, when you decide, you cant do any sidequest for the other camps so you cut off like 2\3 of the game content, and if you dont decide, you have barely any defence and can only count on upgrading your hp.

The punishment for both is huge, literally losing content or being armourless for a huge part of the game.

In what other rpg did you had to chose between being armourless and renouncing to a huge part of the game?

I can understand your frustration, but stuff like this is why Gothic is pretty unique. I get it that you ask 'in what other rpg', but I would be happy if more devs chose their own path for progression or world design, even if it can get unbalanced or downright frustrating. I barely remember my time with Gothic 1 & 2 (never played 3) due to time and suppression, but I remember the choices and consequences like faction/armor/weapons were a big part of its atmosphere for me.
I'd love to dive into this remake, but it doesn't seem to run great on the Deck and my time at my PS5 is very limited, so right now, I have to wait.

edit: and to clarify, I too would be happier if Armor pieces were loot drops. Getting new loot drops in these RPGs is just a satisfying feeling. But they chose differently for Gothic, it's a game of its time that still managed to make its own choices and walk its own path.

I can respect their choice but i dont have to like it.

I'm not really frustrated, the game is not that hard even without armour when you understand the combat and how the jank work, but it is weird to not get any armour in an rpg for potentially 50++ hours.

Yeah you do more damage but your animations are still slower, you handle a one handed weapon with 2 hands like a noob, cant cancel dodge, cant parry and cant combo properly.

Mastery make you more efficent both in defence and attack.

What is the hardest enemy you beat until now? A single Adult scavanger? I dont think you can defeat a group of adult scavangers or wolves with no mastery unless you play like super safe and like run away after every hit.

And how do you learn these masteries?

there is a door in the camp that I cant lockpick, I cant move any of the plates. Do I have to upgrade my lockpicking skill to be able to open it? I dont want to upgrade because I want to use my skill points for combat, and also lockpicking is so fun the way it is and I dont want to make it easier lol

I like the knock Mordrag out and steal his stores inventory "exploit" still doesn't aggro anyone else.
And you could do it every chapter as well.

I hope Alkimia Interactive is already working on a Gothic 2 remake. That would be awesome.
Also someone on MC said this:
its a remaster at best
i mean wtf? Remaster, have you seen the og Gothic, lol.

I'm SO disappointed that the "master stance" for one handed weapon doesn't match the original game, where the nameless hero started holding the sword as a straight extention of his own arm and with the blade pointed toward the ground.

The new one in this game looks basically the same as the expert stance and it's a massive downgrade in terms of cool factor.
I even started a thread about it on Steam but I doubt it's nitpicking that will gain enough traction to be addressed.

Gothic 2 Remake is probably coming, and it will be like Gothic Remake.

But, there is also this Gothic 2 game coming to consoles on September 29, 2026: Gothic 2 Classic, which is a discount 'remaster'.

Also, on November 24, 2026, Gothic 3 Classic for consoles:

Man I am starting to understand why this game was so beloved back them. Its so good and immersive.

Its not perfect by any means but it has soul man. I would put this game in the same category as games like Deus Ex, Prey or Witcher in terms of depth and world building. I want to explore every corner and talk to people.

This is an awesome game

I had to beat him for a quest but now he is gone.

Using exploits to make the game easier kinda ruin the game if you ask me.

No. I joined earlier but this armor is upgraded by Fisk because the default armor was quite underwhelming
Ok then you have to tell if it is true that you cant do shit with the other 2 camps when you join the remaining one or if people were exagerating and you can do most of their sidequest, just not their camp main quest.
