I hope not. Unless they wana ditch the collectaton elements of the franchise.

I just hope they don't ditch the classic controls.

Wait, wasn't Toys for Bob made a Call of Duty support studio? what has happened?

This is awesome news regardless, this studio is born to continue Bandicoot and Spyro.

They became an independent studio again in 2024 and rumours circulated that Xbox had agreed to fund their first project.

That last part seemed to have been from a speedway i hope
Hey, you're right! He lights a fire and 2 more of them are visible in the distance, same with the balloons in the sky, plus there's an objective marker for nearby objects.
Thank god, I literally gave a sigh of relief. Fingers crossed it's the same structured platforming as the original trilogy.

Toys for Bob just turned off the HUD to get something trailer worthy.

SPYRO RETURNS. AND THIS TIME, HE TAKES FLIGHT!

Spyro: A Realm Beyond

At Toys for Bob, Spyro has always had a special place in our hearts. We've shared a long history with the little purple dragon – from the spark that inspired Skylanders to his triumphant return in the Reignited remakes. Our deep love of Spyro is rooted in his character: despite his diminutive size, he takes on oversized odds and succeeds in the end. Like him, our team is small but mighty.

That spirit has guided us to step out into new territory and pour our heart, passion, and ambition into crafting something truly new: an original new chapter for Spyro that we've been passionately building toward all along — a game for the community that has loved him for decades and a whole new generation of players discovering him for the first time.

The courage to soar to new heights through the unknown is at the heart of Spyro: A Realm Beyond.

From the very start of this development journey, our team was inspired to ask: What might a bold evolution for the series look like? How might Spyro soar to new heights? We knew that this dragon (and community!) deserved a worthy follow-up that did a whole lot more than just rehash nostalgia.

So we spent a lot of time exploring new mechanics that would extend and transform the core "Spyro flow state" – that zen-like feeling of seamlessly charging, jumping and gliding through whimsical, dream-like worlds chasing the next shiny gem.

That line of discovery led us to one important conclusion: Spyro deserves to truly SOAR.

Not just a glide. Not just a limited set of flight levels. But true dragon flight. This became the guiding light of our aspirations: bring the full power, speed, and control of dragon flight to the Spyro experience.

Even in our earliest prototypes, being able to take to the skies at a moment's notice to break through the clouds, weave through the branches of colossal trees, and dive off sky-scraping aqueducts was immediately exhilarating to everyone who experienced it and a huge confirmation that this was the right dream to chase. This is what it means for Spyro to soar to new heights.

At Toys for Bob, we are first and foremost Spyro fans.

For years, we've wanted to see Spyro achieve a future worthy of his legacy – not just a brief return, but an impressive new chapter that feels bigger, freer, and more alive than ever before. This is the game we've desperately been wanting to play ourselves, and we couldn't be more excited to finally share this ambition with the world.

Through the bravery and boldness of venturing into the unknown as a small independent studio, our team poured more than three decades of love, passion, and soul into building the game we've always wanted to make. Much like Spyro himself, this is not a story about starting over, it's about building the next chapter on a strong foundation with more fire in our bellies and more passion in our hearts than ever before.

For longtime fans, we hope it recaptures that irreplaceable feeling of comfort flowing through levels in search of treasure. For newcomers, we hope it introduces you to one of gaming's most beloved heroes.

Today is just the first glimpse. There's so much more to show in the months ahead, and we can't wait to reveal more.

If we've piqued your curiosity, please wishlist the game, spread the word, and get ready to SOAR!

Spyro is back.

OK, emphasis on flight is a very cool angle for this. It always seemed weird that Spyro could basically only fly in special bonus stages, and those stages were often the best part of the original trilogy.

Wish this press release had more info about the overall structure of the game though.

Well fuck, Toys for Bob made a blog post about gameplay. It'll be flight focused by the looks of it.
Might still be good, but the fact that they talk up the old gameplay loop with "that zen-like feeling of seamlessly charging, jumping and gliding through whimsical, dream-like worlds chasing the next shiny gem.", then explain why they're going to change it all.

So its not a platformer? So were going for a Dawn of the dragon style game not a classic Spyro one?

Nothing wrong with the later but it was an action game like the rest of the legend trilogy. Probably not what people are asking here.

It's a platformer utilizing the concept of free flight from dawn of the dragon.

I'm thinking about buying and playing through the Reignited trillogy. Seems old though. Maybe I should just wait for a new game?

But, what if I just want a platformer?

I mean, fuck, I'll give it a chance but this not being a 3D platformer puts a damper on the excitement for me.

Maybe Elora and others will do the platforming bits, but it's the Crash/Spyro curse, every developer wants to put their own stamp on the series. Despite the formula being perfected with the original trilogy.

At least they're not making him speak with contemporary Gen Z speak, I hope.

Trailers looks like it's going to have a huge open world. I was hoping it to remains similar to the Trilogy...

I think Spyro would work just fine in an open world; I only played portions of the old games (I own only the first Insomniac one and for sibe reason didn't spend enough time with it in its day) and what I played always seemed like runabout world chunks, rather than paths and routes. (It felt the most like Mario 64 of the various PlayStation PS1 platformers to me.)

The addition of fly-anywhere has me nervous, as flight is the one aspect if gameplay which always sounds great on paper and nags at you when you're playing that it's something you think you want but then the reality is a comedown. It's hard to build interesting levels and challenges when you can just fly when you want, and there are rarely interesting things in the sky (and rarely a good control method to handle 3 axis of movement.) But I wish them well and hope they capture the magic.

meh, I like the franchise, but that trailer was not good at all. The little gameplay showed near the end looks incredibly basic/PS2-ish... I hope it's a lot better than that.

Focus on flight keeps my hype in check. Could still be cool ala NiGHTS, just not something I wanted from a Spyro game, especially after the excellent trilogy remake. Let's see what happens.

Yeah my hype is very dampened due to this. It honestly makes me really disinterested. Dont make Spyro unless its spyro. Always flying kills the awesome platforming....

Best surprise for me, to be honest. Loved this franchise on PS1. Hopefully they stick to that formula: Overworld to explore and seperate levels.

Banjo bros, Spyro won........
Banjo still has a strong shot of happening imo its just probably like 4 years away and will depend on this game being successful.

My actual worry is if they decide to make a Banjo Threeie before doing Banjo Redooie. They need the hands on with the originals to truly understand what a Banjo game should be.

Based on the few gameplay they showed, this game will be popular among speedrunners.

If you follower Stewart's youtube, he did remix and make music videos for two Spyro tracks in the last six months. Coincidence? IDK, but my purchase certainly hinges on it.
