What's Xbox's strategy here?

Gears and Clockwork Revolution are exclusives, but a bunch of games you'd expect to be like Senua aren't. So, what's the point? Either you go all in or you don't. Seems they're half-assing it.

My guess is both those games are timed exclusives and will come to PS5 at a later date. It makes no sense to keep just two of them off PS5 and release the rest.

The whole reason they started putting their games on PS5 is their hardware failed (while it had console exclusives). Having a couple of console exclusives again isn't going to change anything lol. There's no reviving the Series.

No clue what they are thinking.

Who the fuck knows. I would not be surprised at all if Gears E-Day ends up coming to Playstation after it disappoints in sales and no one buys an Xbox for it.

Microsoft/Xbox is completely directionless

Maybe they are slowly retracting the previous admin's stance on exclusivity? And by 2028 there will be few games on other platforms (e.g. COD, Diablo, etc.).

Stop bleeding gamepass numbers. Garner some brand loyalty back if possible. Strengthen as much as possible to try to come back next gen.

The long game.

They need to sell consoles, that's all.

The rest of the games are probably already too far in the development pipeline for them to back out

Or that's the lie they will tell you, because they actually want their games to make money and they know nobody is going to buy an Xbox for a fucking Senua DLC game

No strategy. They're already past the point of no return with exclusivity (as we see with still supporting pc). They have just been a division that has no clue what they are doing with anything

The strategy is to shut the shills up for a bit. The true strategy will be revealed when these don't move the needle on Xbox console sales (which will happen as the consoles are absurdly expensive, and barely stocked.)

Doing the shit the way they want instead of society expectations, peak punk.

Probably the bigger SP games are seen as better potential system sellers than smaller projects that need better assurance on ROI.

I was gonna say this with a lot more words, but basically this is it.

The two "exclusives" they mentioned are still on Steam, who...whether people accept it or not....is a bigger threat to Xbox than Playstation is. Steam...with some success...is actively trying to pull gamers out of Microsoft's ecosystem into their OS. Steam/Valve is challenging Microsoft/Xbox on the gaming and OS front.

Many on this page still see staying on Steam as a big win.

It's a win for me since I will never buy a game from their store. Steam gives these games a chance for me to check out.

I genuinely don't think she can answer this. If I'm watching this showcase and deciding on a console, I've seen little here to persuade me to purchase an XBOX over a PlayStation. If I was interested in Gears, I'd have bought an Xbox at some point during the last two generations. So what about this new XBOX approach is actually going to move people into that ecosystem?

Moreoever, what does this mean for the team at Coalition and the likely bonuses they would have had based on sales metrics? They were developing this reboot for a new, larger install base and that's been taken away from them suddenly. How does this instability inspire confidence in the long-term ecosystem for any potential customer?

And now, the social media and press narrative will be on the future of exclusives - she will get pressed on this in every interview, in every meeting, and it'll lead to more questions about the future of the platform. And for what?

They're not timed

As part of our focus on the return of XBOX, we also announced that Gears of War: E-Day andClockwork Revolution will be XBOX console exclusives. These are not timed exclusives. Games already announced for multiplatform releases will stick to that plan – we're committed to investing in and growing XBOX both on console and beyond.

This is my theory:

I think they don't want to go back on Fable and Halo because they already announced that they're coming to PS5 so they don't want to go back on their word.

Wrt Senua I think because it began with an entry on Playstation then they feel they should continue the series on the platforms it began with.

I think for new single player franchises and for future entries into franchises which began on Xbox they will aim to return to exclusivity most of the time.

Booty really cracked me up when he was on screen and said "Xbox gamers can look forward to two console exclusives!"

Just diabolical work here lol

E-Day probably gonna come in 6 to 12 months to ps5 and likely even ps6, yeh, the other game wont come till next gen so who really knows, it will likely sell like shit coz looks like redfall so barely no1 cares.

To find out more about xbox strategy we need hard info on magnus: price, specs, launch date etc, then we can work around that to assume what will happen(likely nothing good but who knows in the end).

They're throwing bones to the shills community that has been locked in a perpetual Stockholm syndrome for over a decade while looking clueless and unprofessional as a company in the process.
Those games are obviously just timed exclusives as well.

Well, I think is the same thing Microsoft is doing on the last three years: let's try a little bit of everything and see how it goes. I don't know if we can call this as "strategy".

New management that said they are revamping. a lot of games already have contracts signed I imagine multiplayer games going forward will be on all platforms.

You believe them? When both games fall short of sales expectations, they will get ported.

There choices were either be a platform holder or a 3rd party publisher and I guess they want to take another shot at it. If they drive everyone to ps5 then they'll lose all their subscribers.

Is it the smart choice for them? Idk. They should've made FH6 exclusive if that's what they wanted to do.
