Stellar Blade 2 | Summer Game Fest Trailer

Damn, our true Waifu of War. What an epic fucking leap for a sequel, it feels like a whole different franchise, day one.

At this point, "she looks like a child" has become more of an assertion than an argument.

She's clearly presented as an adult character by the developers (do you think a multi-million company would use a "child" for a mainstream game?) and nothing about the game's marketing, story, or presentation suggests otherwise. If the only evidence is that she's petite, has a youthful face, or X type of hair, then you're not identifying a child - you're projecting your own subjective age standards onto a fictional character.

Simply repeating "she looks like a child" doesn't make it true. It just means you've decided that any adult woman who doesn't conform to your idea of what an adult should look like must be a child.

Now, after the storm of backlash they're currently facing (mainly from Western audiences, obviously), some changes will likely follow. Personally, I don't mind or care either way - It's the same with the new God of War Faye character, I don't care whether people call it feminist propaganda, claim she was "uglified" on purpose, or argue she's attractive or not. It all feels like noise to me.

The ONLY real issue I have with these discussions is the constant pearl-clutching, moralizing, projection and lecturing. People getting hostile over opinions, acting like they're scoring moral points online and turning every disagreement into a personal attack.
I mean, shit, yesterday alone, we had someone openly accusing another user of being a pedophile - that kind of escalation shouldn't feel normal, yet here we are.

It really does feel like things are getting increasingly combative, with people quick to throw baseless and ugly accusations at each other. That's not just exhausting, it's worrying.

We don't have to agree on everything but this level of hostility isn't healthy for anyone.

Also : "evil is what evil does" - when minds are warped by constant online drama and hyper-fixation on culture wars you start seeing malice everywhere...
This is what the Internet enables, if we were just people in a local place discussion wouldn't be so hectic, the Internet allows people to act out, be reactionary and attack others with minimal consequences. And no I don't think censorship or real ID would fix it, people reveal their real identity on Twitter and they still act like wild animals.

Look I like Evie, we'll see how she fares as the new Protag, but also...

It should've been her:

I blame anime. All the sexualization of schoolgirl stuff is disturbing, but it's made these people more openly attracted to the minor look.
There's a lot of quality anime out there, but yeah, plenty of lewd content within it too. Might have had some influence in normalising its acceptance.

The combat looks great. I genuinely thought it was Itsuno's new game during the showcase. But, brothers, she looks like a minor, and there's no denying that.
She looks youthful like many Asian women in their late teens and 20a do, but I agree that look is more commonly of minors for folks the west (specially those with European lineage) of which this forum is completely filled with (westerners). Doesn't matter if she's a minor tho this isn't 1) real 2) porn. Plenty of teen movies with naked teens and teens having sex since the dawn of film, and don't get me started on literature. This doesn't even get into the fact that age of consent is in the mid teens in most of the world (i.e not 18). And finally this is complicated subject the vast majority of gamers aren't knowledgeable nor well traveled enough to discuss.

Why the hell hasn't the official PlayStation YouTube channel uploaded the Stellar Blade 2 trailer yet

I don't think it's been officially announced for the PS5/PS6 yet. It's only been in development for a year. I don't think it has anything to do with Sony being stuck up about sexualization, especially since they platformed Stellar Blade in the first place.

Im sorry, but no, and watch out for these reductions. IMHO, Evie's face is TOO YOUNG for her body (and for her voice, by they way). Yuffie face (and general behavior) is adequade for her body. Evie needs to be 5 or 6 years older. Heavens, i showed her (evie) to my mother (she is a huge Eve's fan) and she automatically asked why Evie is 10 years old :-D
Well good thing you aren't the god of anatomy and psysiology then, fundamentally you can have that opinion but it doesn't mean reality reflects it.

Im sure leftist will say she looks like a 12 year old girl and this is pedo 🤣
I mean I was watching Asmon's live stream of SGF and he described her as looking like a 12 year old with the voice of a 30 year old. Surely he's not a leftist in your eyes.

Not childish like, just completely different and extreme beauty standards:

South Korean beauty standards (Korean: 사우스 코리안 뷰티 스탠더즈) prioritize maintaining a youthful appearance rather than looking mature. A combination of clear skin, an even skin complexion, a slim, V-shaped jawline, and pronounced puffy aegyo-sal (fatty, bag-like deposits under the eye—common in children; rare in adults

Yes, it's just weird.

We've already got PlayStation button prompts in the trailer.

This isn't a real Asian woman tho, and we're not talking about a real woman's appearance. This is a character designed from scratch for an international audience. The devs chose her face, proportions, outfit and jiggle animation. The result looks like a sexualised minor. You can disagree, but let's not pretend there's nothing questionable about the design.

Also a fair point.

I like playing better designed character models in games but do people really want to fuck video game characters? Both sides of the argument are dumb to me. I will joke around about "dat ass" but damned if I could be serious about arguing either side of it. Same goes for GoW:L. People are trashing the character model, but I think it looks great.

Yes. Just cause they can't doesn't mean they won't fantasize about it.

It literally is an Asian woman, designed by an Asian company using Asian beauty trends and sensibilities. I quoted this in another thread but this is what the director said about their designs:
He noted that all characters are adults, with designs influenced by cultural perceptions of aging (e.g., Asian features leading to a youthful appearance despite being fully grown).
So they didn't design a character for an international audience, they created the character they wanted based on their own cultures beauty standards. So you can interpret it any way you want, but that doesn't make it correct.

Outside of cracking jokes the only times "jerking off" or "fucking" characters is ever used is when people want to use it as an attack on someone. It's low hanging fruit for people who don't have any actual arguments.

We all know what the Stellar Blade team is playing at. It's nothing new in manga/anime. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but it's undeniable that when these kinds of characters are sexualized, it's uncomfortable, or at least it should be, if you're an adult.

This is a child:

This is an "adult":

It would make their own gow granny simulator look extremly bad, especially protag vs protag, so makes sense, they doing their best to keep it all under wraps xD

For the record, I like Evie's design too. Game is a Day 1 for me. The only issue I have is with people being dismissive towards those who are weirded out by how childlike she looks. It really shouldn't be that hard to love the design but understand the criticism.
Thats not how children look though.
Eve snd Evie (cringe) look like dolls. Something AI would come up with.

They may look somewhat similar to their real life models (I don't think they do btw), but that is not how children look like.

People saying they look like children have no idea what children look like.

She's a robot and probably like 500 years old, right? So it's fine. Seriously though, it looks awesome.

Game looks good. The MC's face does look like a child though, there's no getting away from that.

Unless they're playing into the 'baby face' aspect that many adults do in fact have, that's the only saving grace I can give them here. Will ask my partner and see what she thinks.

Here's how I see it, will this character get ID'd in every shop known to man to buy alcohol, or cigarettes in today's world? The answer is a resounding yes.

But so will I, and I'm in my 30s so whatevs.

The devs can say she is 20, 30, or 1000 years old and that she was designed with Asian beauty standards in mind. That might all be true, but I'm also allowed to critique how the character design looks in motion. Just because the devs state she is an adult doesn't free the design of criticism. The character looks like a minor and is sexualised, that's my perception and it's questionable.

Hope it's way more character-action than "souls-like with some style" like the previous game.

At first glance the combat looks much faster than the first game. The also seems to be some kind of bobby and weaving mechanic, maybe. It looks like she dodges a bunch of attacks like a boxer would during combat.

Shift Up is a Korean company. Their references would likely be Korean models.

For example, this is a Korean girl. She was between 20-23 years old in this picture. She definitely looks young to Western eyes. But she was an adult.

Every "but look at this young asian woman" defense is posting a picture of an Asian woman that looks older than Evie.
