Another golden opportunity for a slow moving series about people watching blinkenlights for minutes before anything actually happens, fucking wasted.
I mean Spaceballs is a better Star Wars than what came after.Sad days when a comedian is putting out a better Star Trek than paramount...
SG1 series is (with a few episodes exceptions) is awesome. Lots of people seem to think so
The show ran from summer 1997 through summer 2007, making it one of the longest-running U.S. sci-fi series at the time, 10 series, 214 episodes. The original film was not much above average, the series knocked it out of the park
I do believe that it's nothing to do with not enough engagement beyond the fans of the original like they say, but instead it's about conflict between the writers/directors not bowing to Amazon's execs who want to change everything for modern audiences so if we did get their vision then it shouldn't have been woke slop. This is all that appears on my TwitterX now.
Fans be pissed.
It probably still would have been "woke slop" anyways.
Personally I never cared for Stargate. Found the show too boring and silly except for the O'Neill guy. But I do sympathize with fans.
On the bright side though, Stargate fans don't have to deal with the disappointment that us Star Wars and Star Trek fans have to.
Why wouldn't it? I think both Stargate SG1 & Atlantis were series popular all around the world. Sure the Americans kept control of the Stargate system on Earth (at least initially), but the shows didn't lean on that heavily and they were mostly about exploring alien worlds and having adventures. Very easy shows to start watching even without seeing all previous episodes.Cancelled because it wouldn't have a broad, global appeal?
That doesn't sound good for the 40K series. 40K would need some serious changes to appeal to global audience.
First reaction was "motherfuckers" but realizing they wont destroy stargate making it for the elusive modern audience is probably for the best
Considering it was being made by the original show runners, it wasn't geared towards that audience. It was being made for the fans.
Which according to sources is why Amazon cancelled it. They wanted this to have a broader appeal to people outside the fanbase.
Which begs the question what does that even mean to amazon? We can all joke about the casting by excel spead sheet, but its not like amazon has a great track record for their own developed shows so I don't know what they think they can do better
The idea of rebooting is that it already has an inbuilt fan base to built off (something a lot of studio's seem to have forgotten)
I love how their Laura in the game is racked and draggin a wagon.Which according to sources is why Amazon cancelled it. They wanted this to have a broader appeal to people outside the fanbase.

Of many classic episodes that sure was one
For folks new to the various Stargate tv series , SG1 and Atlantis are awesome (SG1 is best for the characters, despite the glossy high tech of Atlantis)I wasn't a fan of Universe
I think the only way to bring back those shows is as comic books or even better motion comics. Since both forms are pretty cheap to produce they can avoid the eye of Sauron (Amazon exec in Stargate case). Plus smaller teams less chance of activists infiltration. After their last few attempts, it's probably for the best.
Nothing will ever recapture the lighting in the bottle of the 90s/2000's iconic SciFi shows. There's no soul in current year.
Have you seen Marvel/DC the past decade?I think the only way to bring back those shows is as comic books or even better motion comics. I am not talking about there superheroes series here (which are totally corrupted).Have you seen Marvel/DC the past decade?
I'm actually interested. Do you have a few that you'd recommend?I am not talking about there superheroes series here (which are totally corrupted).
They have other comic series which even these days have produced comics with proper storylines & characters.
Beside there are other publishers for ex. European ones.
Don't know about the validity of this rumour, but wouldn't surprise me.
Odd franchise, it's like one decent film and a mediocre series that got increasingly worse lol.

Make sure you watch the uncut 1st episode, some SPECTACULAR full frontal nudity showtime mandated for the pilot, thrn was never done againIt's on my watch list for next year. I know the show has a lot of seasons plus there's Atlantis and the other one. I'm gonna to take my times with those shows since there's a lot of episodes

I have not seen a single episode in any of the series and have only seen the film a number of times. I'm told this indicates a deficiency in character and I need remedy my negligence (basically, the wife went on a Stargate series binge in the recent past and ultimately is a champion of the shows). As such, this news (the cessation of development of the new series) is extremely disappointing.
Our weekend breakfast discussion usually morphed into a, 'What happened during the last five episodes of Stargate?"-bit. I should probably make a podcast out of it. My wife relays the plots to me as best she can and I ask stupid questions/make jokes. Fun is had by all. Point is: I have a general idea as to where SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe took the basic story of the movie and I was really looking forward to seeing a continuation - with a significant budget. This new show was never pitched as a reboot, but a continuation, right?
I think Apple TV should tease Amazon publicly. I'm not sure who heads the former, but this person (persons) is (are) obviously willing to spend tons of money for great programming, viewership be damned. Foundation has not been cancelled - imagine that.
Make Bezos feel like a punk. This will trickle down to whoever is running things, content-wise over there. Maybe Amazon reconsiders. Get Musk on this, as well. Not sure if he's a Stargate fan, but: "Hey Jeff - stop blowing up rockets and spend the money on something people actually want to see," is a tweet/x-post/whatever I think should happen.
We could have gotten another Stargate series. Instead, we get Rings of Power (money "well-spent;" no, that's not right...money, well, "spent") and:

Bezos bought the WSJ and purged it of the most woke elements.
Yet he lets the DEI brigade run rampant at Prime Video.
