God of War: Laufey Announced

Just watched the trailer.

Where is the woke here? She was perfectly able to hold her own against Thor. This looks really good.

People are more aware of agendas nowadays. It is simple as that.
Not all things are agenda driven.. until they are .. its a hard concept to explain, patterns, intentions, current cultural landscape ... ignore all of this and cut a slice of time as an example is just disingenuous

The animations will be great in this game.

They looked it a little clunky/dated in the first few minutes when she was trying to climb, mainly the transitions.

Was a bit jarring considering the amazing animations we are now getting in games from China and Korea as well as what TLoU2 did and should be building upon.

I have no doubts most of that will be cleaned up closer to the launch window as well.

Easy :
Marvel-ization. Disney-ification.Where every character talks like the same, generic, American stereotype with the same quips and sanitized dialogue.

This is a franchise that once had its protagonist literally rip a man's (God) head off with his bare hands and beat another character's face into a bloody pulp - all in GLORIOUS 720p...
Now, it's been sanded down into something far safer and more inoffensive, carefully designed not to upset anyone - heck, there's barely any blood in it anymore and most enemies "bleed" sparks...

What was once an M-rated franchise now feels closer to a PG-13 one at best.

THIS is what the series has become

Fixed. Look at the parry animation. It's exactly the same as 2018/Ragnarok with the same visual effects :messenger_tears_of_joy:

She doesn't even have anything to block with. Is she parrying with her sword? :messenger_grinning_smiling:

GIRLBOSS TIME

You missed that gold wrap on her left arm?

She's blocking with magic, you can see the glow come off her left hand, and no, it's not the same visual effect, it's similar but that's because it's still a God of War game so good to have some familiar elements so it's natural for existing God of War players

Honestly, I'll say it like I have for years... The nuGoW games feel like absolutely unfamiliar dog crap. They're not fun games and for an action game, there's hardly any action. I barely know anyone who actually finished it, which is whatever. I did finish the first but I hated it at the end. The second isn't much better.

Because when you get into it it's not really about wokeness but really about platform wars.
This culture wars bollocks is a point of attack against PlayStation.
That's not to say there are a few weirdos who are not happy because of perceived wokeness, but just look at the majority of posters creating the fuss.
They're pcmr/Xbox fanatics

That's why you see the hypocrisy when it's games from their platforms of choice doing the same thing
Simply not true.

This game is tailor made for GoW2018/Ragnarok fans, its very familiar and safe. Everyone that enjoyed BOTH games will for certain enjoy this. Thats most of their target audience.

For sure, but the faster more athletic combat may bring in new fans, and we haven't seen a lot of that yet as it will all be upgradeable (she even states that it shouldn't be that hard meaning she's been nerfed, which is fine, standard game design, start low powered build up to powerful)

This is completely fair criticism. It stopped feeling like dark fantasy ever since the reboot. And getting more and more marvel-esque with each sequel. I'll reserve judgment till the final product, but switching to a character that the audience barely knows anything about, where no baton was passed, yet treating it as a mainline game instead of a spinoff... are all perfectly valid issues to be calling out. She hasn't earned her spot yet and now has massive shoes to fill. May be she will by the end of the game, but no reason to trust that at the moment. The burden of proof is on SSM and if they don't deliver, it will be hard to resurrect the series.

And I agree, purple doesn't help either. Lol

I thought it was a good idea to not show the late wife / mom in the first of the reboot games. It allowed for the player to form their own image about her in the player's mind. It also amplified the loss of her.

With the second game and what they have showed about this latest one it seems they have fully reversed the meaning of her death.

I really don't like this story telling.

And now they say she was always part of this reboot series? No, the point in the first one was that she wasn't a part of it.

Why can't there be grief about death and the finality of it all?

Why, Frank? Why?

I also believe it will be the direction for the original trilogy remake and built upon for that.

But Ciri is explicitly portrayed as a lesbian in The Witcher 3.

How come Kratos embraces woke culture and The Witcher doesn't? lol

You have a double standard depending on the developer and your own tastes; you're not objective at all.

First of all, hot lesbians aren't woke. Second of all, no she isn't.

Ragnarok is Sweet Baby Inc. slop. There is no contest.

I honestly don't know the direction they'll take with that, I keep thinking that they'll follow the 2018 design/style/camera but then I think it would be a missed opportunity to go completely bonkers graphically with the old style/camera. So dunno, I'd be happy either way to be honest

Rethink your thinking about what's happening here with the announcement that The Witcher 4's protagonist is a female secondary character.

Look at the Witcher 4 threads. Notice there's not as much fuss?

Why do you think that is?

Here's a hint... imagine for a moment that the game includes this:

PlayStation Studios

TW4

Fable

Forza

But suuuuure.... Sony is attacked because of console wars. You know what TW4 devs did after people cried about ugly Ciri? They changed her mode (and of course pretended otherwise to not upset woke mafia):

To be honest I had no horse in this race until it was pointed out to me earlier just how many of Sony's top shelf IPs have female leads. It is absurd. And pretty much all of them have occurred in the 2020s. Naughty Dog's last 3 releases all have female playable characters.

Men are the overwhelming target audience for these games and men as a demographic have no interest in playing as women. A series like Tomb Raider is the exception, not the norm.

This is absolutely a decision that was greenlit around the time of the Corona Summer of Peace and Love. People will look back on this in 10 years and laugh.

It's social engineering, nothing more. I'm tired of having debates about how X character doesn't actually look ugly, or any such nonsense. Debating is pointless. Just be based, say no and reject it.

Easy formula :

1. Take a franchise that mostly all gamers love

2. Gender swap the main character with a female

3. Deflect the backlash by calling people bigots, idiots, whatever.

Rinse and repeat. Enjoy the new Sony ponies. Thank God they stopped porting this shit to pc.

Yeah completely undercuts the emotion weight of 2018. Big changes happened when Ragnarok was made...

Is there a lore reason for this?

HJ-wO2DWgAEcgXp
Atsu is at least 28yo and fit, she gets a pass from me, back in feudal japan(early 17th century) w/o the beauty industry that was goodlooking woman, she wears manly/samurai clothes/hides her face behind the mask, but its actually above avg both face and body :P

Lots and lots of Sony fans here ... people that dont care mostly just dont care... if we are complaining/criticizing is because we care, I at least do and wished Sony had gone in a completely other direction this gen, and hope that this and intergalactic are the last wave of feminized games that were the forefront of their FP lineup this gen.

Anyway its definitely not a "hate Sony" thing. Not exclusively Anyway

I thought both GOW 2018 and GOW:R had high competition rates. And those two games combined sold over 40 million copies.

Plus you don't think this is action?

Ciri was established as bi in a book written in 1995:

They didn't change it in the game. TW3 is also from 2015, woke was still not a thing in games...

This is pretty silly. Ciri is central to The Witcher 3's story, she's hardly a secondary character. And the ending of The Witcher 3 that everyone assumed would be canon is the one where Ciri would likely be the main character of Witcher 4 lol Plenty of people still complain about it but this is not the same situation.

Maybe you are reading this wrong. But she WAS always part of the Norse series. GOW 2018 is literally ALL about her! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I really wanted to see what these retards would say if Lara Croft got replaced by some random dude. Make him white and straight and the roof comes down. No God of War fan wants a GoW without Kratos, no Tomb Raider fan wants a Tomb Raider without Lara. How hard can that be to understand?
Wanna make a game with some ramdom chick? Make a new IP. Why they dont do it? Cuz without the IP name they know its an instant flop like Forspoken was. This Laundrey lady would be a nice char for a smaller spinoff in between main GoW games, kinda like what Insomniac did with Miles Morales. This is not a characters for a main GoW game.

I can't not get at least a little bit excited about this. I haven't played anything in months but sony's cinematic third person action adventures are made for me. The ultimate comfort food.
