God of War: Laufey Announced

Yeah i know that Sony is an intransparent company. That doesn´t happen accidentally though. It´s on purpose. It always is. They are hiding information.
Here's how I know your argument doesn't work.

Sony provided a sales update for Ghost of Yotei. Does that mean they're satisfied with the sales numbers?

If they provide another sales update, does that mean they're still satisfied? How about Horizon Forbidden West, Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II, and Astro Bot? Were they satisfied after providing a sales update?

Looks good even tho not as different as ragnarok as i wish. Still looks like hellblade graphical quality with a gameplay to boot so very very good.
Combat seems fun and building a lot on the basic 3rd person god of war template.
Story seems intriguing with the mythos mix up, but one thing tickles me. Laufey talks about the "Path". She put krakra and son on the PAth... oh no the path is not safe because there are 2 masks (when we know what happen to the ragnarok mask...)... i need to come back to get them to a new path which pathes more.
Hope they do not retcon the story with laufey helicopter-moming kratos and atreus to hell jotunheim and back.

I wish laufey was a heroine by herself, not trough kratos incapacity to do things alone (which would be a crazy retcon for kratos, the dude who bends entire pantheons to his will).

Hiding information?

Do you think Sony is worried about 1,000,000 threads being opened on various forums about their sales?

We're talking about companies with serious executives, not a children's war in the playgrounds of video game forums.

When I watched the gameplay it didn't give the best first impression because it just seemed like more of the same GoW, which I liked but wanted something different. Once it got past that and I saw the combat I was definitely more impressed. It's a shame it has the GoW name attached as that'll forever mar the reception of the game, and it's being harshly judged because of it, but this might end up being a better game than the 2018 GoW. They really should have wrapped it around a new IP and let the GoW name be forever attached to Kratos.

Obviously they consider those numbers good enough to share them. If you want to know what happens when they aren´t just look at Marathon or Saros. Absolute radio silence.

Those of you who played God of War 2018 know perfectly well that there were surprises throughout the game.

I still think that if they've kept the "God of War" name, there's something we don't yet know.

The sales figures are there; you'll see them in the quarterly reports.

They can't hide that information from their investors.

She's pretty, but her outfit is so "slums" or Burning Man - while covering so much skin at the same time. It's just weird to see the female body being censored and female sensuality toned down, while the male characters are out here flexing their abs and shoulders.
Cant tell if this is a joke or not :D

She's 41 IRL. Yes she's aged, so what?

Kratos isn't a spring chicken either. Should he have married somone that looks like his daughter or something?

Yep, and that's with makeup on. She looks the same in game but without the makeup. I broke down and watched the rest of the trailer and goddamn, this looks even better than the last two games fun factor wise. Gonna be awesome!

News at 11: shareholders care about software sales. So do marketing folks because as said earlier: good sales = good marketing.

And yes, if games sell badly Sony wants to hide that information. From shareholders, from customers, from the press.

It should be called Laufey: a god of war story and no one would've complained. But calling it a main installment of the series and using the God of War in the title is very unappealing. It's been since the ps2 that Kratos is the god of war and god of war is about Kratos'story. Apparently it wasn't enough to deconstruct Kratos.

There was no reason for Sony to announce Marathon's sales figures because they already said the game didn't meet their expectations.

It took more than 3 months for Sony to announce Helldivers 2 sales and it's one of their most successful games of all time.

Poor sales can't be hidden from shareholders.

Just like the collapse of Bungie and Concord couldn't be hidden.

Anyway, you're still insisting that Saros needs excellent sales figures to be profitable, when it probably didn't cost even a fraction of what Wolverine costs to make. Therefore, every game needs to be analyzed based on its budget and profitability.

Wolverine does need a lot of sales; just with the Marvel licenses alone, the game's budget must have reached astronomical figures.

To give you an idea, HouseMarque currently has 120 employees.

Insomniac Games has 520 employees...

Saros' profitability comes much faster than Wolverine's, even considering labor costs alone.

Did I get paid for it?

No.

But judging by the fact that you replied without addressing a single point, it looks like I got rent-free accommodation in your head anyway.
There were literally no points to address, just stupid crying about people criticizing your favorite toys. Other than that it was 3rd grade level insults and cave man level thinking.

Since when did people have to know how to do something to be able to criticize it? I don't need to know how to bake a cake to know if it tastes bad. I don't need to know how to build a car to know when it's a piece of shit. The only reason why some of you clowns say shit like this in a thread about video games is because you worship these people like they're curing cancer or something. They aren't special, they're people doing a job, they get paid for it, and they get criticized like everyone else. Deal with it.

They want to leverage the brand. For sure it's possible you could play as Kratos at some point, but using the brand would be enough reason by itself.

Imagine trying to sell this without the brand and connection to God of War.

Not surprised with the comments from gaf. Oh no a women protagonist! The horror!

The game looks refreshing, love the art direction and hopefully it plays well. Love that Deborah Ann Woll is associated with the game. Enjoyed her on true blood and dare devil.

You're right, the punch of marketing makes a big difference.

Wow, for the first time I feel like the sentiment of "chuds" and "woke" being thrown around willy nilly feels evident and hard to ignore than this thread.

The game ACTUALLY looks really great to play? Combat looks fun, has DMC/RESONANT/GOWR vibes and so far, I haven't felt like they're shitting on Kratos lore-wise.

Idk, like, I am not a fan of the constant female protagonists shoved down our throats, but I do love some great gameplay and action - which this game has.

As long as it doesn't ask me to do burpees for misgendering, i don't see why i wont buy it. Frickin Yotei was my biggest regret, that gameplay was barely an evolution of Tsushima and it dod not warrant a new character whatsoever.

Here, i can see the why we're seeing Faye.

I just hope its not a goddamn trilogy.
Yeh, I mean I expected a spin off and not a mainline game, but you can see why this fits into the main story, we are going to see Kratos and Faye reunited again at some point, it's just one part of an overarching story.

Have you noticed the game's lighting?

It's top-notch.

Look, for example, at how the light interacts with the cube.

There's a significant graphical leap in this game.

Yeah the lighting and the model details looks great and i say that as a PC gamer.

Another thing bothers me about this is I remembered God of War series was about brutality and gore and in fact it what made it so different from other character action games out there.

I hate that most enemies here have no blood and they just have fire sparks.

According to Freya's information;

"In Norse mythology, Freyja is the preeminent goddess of love, beauty, fertility, war, and magic.

The Afterlife: Unlike Odin, who takes fallen warriors to Valhalla, Freyja rules over the heavenly field Fólkvangr and claims half of all fallen warriors to live in her hall."

Even if we're being purists, Freya is indeed a goddess of war.

Kratos never existed in either Norse or Greek mythology."

And with this the feminization of Playstation is complete. Once a bastion of cool, brutal, high-octane and testosterone filled experiences, it is now pussywhipped into gruesome mediocrity. After Nathan Drake, Jin Sakai and Ratchet it is now time for the God of War himself to step aside in his own franchise.

Deliberately uglified main characters who constantly mumble story or gameplay instructions to themselves to tell the player what to think, feel or do before he even has a chance to spin up a few brain cycles himself. Cringe millennial Marvel-coded slop writing including bantering, colorful sparkling sidekicks that seem created by Disney adults who are mentally still 15 years old. Gameplay that revolves around pushing a stick forward and pushing some on-screen prompts from time to time in between 5-minute cutscenes. Soulless visual splendor, to be played once and to be forgotten after a day. The digital equivalent of riding the rollercoaster. Zero cultural impact.

I actually found some more gameplay here:

They can't hide that information from their investors.
Sony have no obligation to share per game information (or any unit information per se), only revenue numbers for division and those means nothing as they driven by 3rd party sales
It's their goodwill to show unit numbers and every so often show particular game numbers (those they deprioritize transparency by a lot recently)

lol everyone thought GOW would be the last line of defence before getting a female lead 😂 but in all seriousness was this really ever the plan? Cody's game clearly didn't work out and the 'in development' at the end of the gameplay trailer suggests it probably won't be out till 2028 or even when ps6 launches.

Only problem is…that's not Freyja we play as…

If anything, it all points out to a 2027 release.
If we're getting gameplay in 2026 it has to be closer to release than most games in there.

I agree. I don't see how it can be considered unreasonable to describe PlayStation as a 'girl brand' at this point. The transition is clearly a deliberate strategy and has been incredibly thorough.

They had me as soon as they referenced the Mask. This is a direct/parallel continuation of the story from Ragnarok and we will see what was happening inside that realm from which Loki was trying to extract the pieces of the Mask.

Looks solid to me. I am in.

Unattractive female characters. It's just so lame from these western devs. This game looks boring. Sony first party is out of ideas.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with the title or the fact it's a GoW game, I was just speaking about the initial reception because people can't accept the fact it doesn't star Kratos. For me the title of the game is irrelevant, as long as it's a good time with a decent story I'll gladly play it. I'm sure a lot of people complaining would also be unhappy even if Kratos was in the game. There would be more cries of "this is DLC, we want a new game". With the way the combat looks in this first impression this is taking the gameplay in a new direction. I'm looking forward to it. SMS are a top tier studio and, as you said, based on the previous entries there could be some nice surprises in store.

She looks great, the story looks very interesting and the combat honestly looks better than the recent GoW.

Having said this I cant ignore the fact they Disneyfied the fck out of this, the perfect golden lighting, the cube (which I like tbh), the lack of gore and blood is quite a let down for me, specially considering the focus seems to be on showing how strong she is and what she's against, the violence would add to this.

I'll get it at 20€.
