Ok... there is definitely something wrong with GAF... or is it just the entire internet?

Dare I say it's officially gotten to a point where I would tell anyone that want sto actually play and enjoy games to stay away from gaming forums... all that we do on here when it comes to games is just talk shit and act all jaded about EVERYTHING.
Videogames are getting more expensive and taking more time to develop while, at the same time, being way worse than games released on the PS2.
It's cool if you like those narrative heavy games but many despise them (imo a videogame focus should be the game, not the story) but even then I see no real differnce between this and what I played on my PS4 Pro back in 2018. (Graphics aside)

Imo it's normal to be pissed off if this is all a videogame powerhouse like Sony is able to showcase.

I'm 45 and I have been gaming since I was 7... and no, I am not jaded one bit. I also know exactly what to expect and what kinda games appeal to me, and know not to berate everything that doesn't appeal to me.

If you have been gaming for a decent while, then no one has to tell you that there is very little they can do as far as making games around the standard 3d dual analogue stick control scheme. You also know that all these "fancy moves press button here or there" can be said about most games, and doesn't mean that the game actually lacks gameplay depth. But of course we are going to call them the "Sony games." I mean, sure, lets ignore the 3mins of actual gameplay that precede the 5-second QTE finisher because the only thing that happened was the finisher. Or lets act like cutscenes are great as long as they aren't interactive in any way.

Its just a lazy and ultimately false take.

But here is my thing, or my challenge.... over here (and this is why I stay out of actual game threads) all we do is talk about how everything sucks... while that's happening, can whoever is doing that also point out what "doesn't" suck? But more importantly.... should EVERY GAME then be made to be a clone of that suck-free game?

If that happens... you'll be shocked at what or which kinda games you would see... and you will also see the kinda double standards that prevail in this community, especially when games are actually being discussed.

It's honestly tiring... but that's it for me, I am out of this thread, I knew it would be like this anyway, and I stay away from these kinda threads for this reason exactly, I will stick to the tech threads. At least there you wouldn't have to hope anyone understands what it means to be subjective.

I understand what you're saying and I respect your opinion, and appreciate that you typed this up.

But in my opinion the greatest games have been coming from the indie scene such as Cairn or Skate Story, games that arent handholding you the entire time and dont offer dialogue that are prevelant in every disney movie for the last 10 years.

I think nostalgia makes a lot of people forget what games were actually like back then.

And I am not gonna knock you for having an opinion, or anyone for that matter... however, in that show I saw at least 4 games I was interested to buy. And while the one game I actually hoped I would see wasnt there (yes, I have accepted that little devil inside is vaporware at this point), I am not gonna be here and pretend like the showing was a bad one. No matter what sony showed the comments here would have been the same, its almost like there is a sleuth of usual posters that will go into every thread and shit on whatever is shown, then praise MS when they show similar, and vice versa, a group of usual posters that will shit on whatever MS shows or nintendo...

Check it out yourself if you haven't noticed it, it's been happening without fail over the last 2-3 years. Show me a single SOP, XBOX show, or Nintendo Direct that didn't have an overwhelmingly negative bias in the last 3 years.

Silent Hill and Tomb Raider were basically the only things I'm interested enough in to consider a purchase.

Everything else was...out of my wheelhouse to put it kindly, or clearly a samey action/cinematic game where even fighting enemies feels like a cutscene because of the super long animations of moves. Like, there's totally stuff that looked cool, but based solely off the repetition in the gameplay demos, I'm skeptical of much technical evolution or variation. I'm wondering if the cool shit that I saw can maintain being cool shit for the entire runtime of a campaign.

I have to apologize because I thought we were talking just about the GOW game lol, sorry.

There's a bunch of games I liked there too, but to be honest they are all multiplats: Onimusha, Phantom Blade 0 and AC8. That said, the actual Sony games were kind of underwhelming (Wolverine) to just bad (the GOW game). That's extremely subjective tho, maybe I don't like them or maybe I got burn of that formula during the PS4 gen.

Even then I expected way more from this show. Could be that it was bad? Maybe... Could be that people overhyped it to hell and back? Quite possible, and maybe that's part of the problem. Now, if it's the fault of the people for overhyping it or the fault of the industry for not being able to satisfy that hype, I'll let you decide because honestly, I'm not even sure myself.

Overall, a decent showing from Sony. Nothing was crazy awesome to me, but there were a few things in there I might get. I'm pretty pumped for the Dave the Diver prequel with the sushi guy. I loved that game.

Craziest thing was seeing Gitaroo-Man acknowledged in 2026. Didn't expect that lol.

I fully agree with this.. but id go as far as saying i tend to avoid gaf in general. Its the only forum i visit and its getting difficult to come here lately.. people are trying way too hard to hate on everything. The anti woke are more annoying than the woke. Ah.

Simply put though, whenever i take time from gaf, im generally happier. I come here for the tech threads too.

the whole jello cube thing was so fucking stupid and weird that.. I think I kinda like it? Nobody else?

As for the rest of the game... I think Santa Monica has done enough to at least deserve the benefit of the doubt. .... but boy.. the doubts are real..

Where is Fairgame$ though? Did Sony not have the balls to show it? Are all those $240,000/yr devs going to work on it tomorrow still?

And therein is the kicker, the 4 games I was interested in from that show were Wolverine (and my one prayer with the game was let it be combat focused and not be open world), GOW, Keruni or whatever its called and Omnimusha. And an honorable mention to PB0, Ace Combat, and Rayman.... was not interested in anything else.

And thats perfectly fine... and is the issue I have with GAF... a forum for gamers by gamers... cause I would have thought that at least here we would "get it".

Gaming is subjective. No one here will, or has ever, watched any gaming show in history and was gonna buy EVERY game shown. And yet there is someone out there who would buy whatever game you or I were not interested in. But over here we all seem to talk as if the game is not this or that, then its the worst thing ever. And those naysaters are unfortunately the loudest. Like that GOW game, if it were made by Capcom, and not called GOW... but same characters and everything, this thread would be full of people saying how awesome it is and how much charm and well put together it is.

Nothing being done is "new"... Clair obscura? Legend of Dragoon on steroids. Breath of the wild? Okami 3.0....etc

But primarily when it comes to actual game discussions, GAF has become an echo chamber of negativity, and I know none of what I am saying here would make a difference, its why I avoid posting in threads about any specific game. Which is one helluva contradiction when you think about it, being that this is supposed to be a gaming forum. Someone may feel off playing a "new" game today because it borrows from an established formula that's been recycled for the last 10 years.... but we act like there aren't people that will experience the very things we love/loved for the first time.

GAF is fast becoming like that annoying friend when I was a kid that acted cool and like they had played everything and wasn't interested in anything (even though the dont even have a console)... I am sure everyone here had at least one of those.

Mr.Phoenix Mr.Phoenix I think you are either exaggerating a little bit or focusing only on the negative side.

Sure people are shitting a lot on this, but take into account that this show was hyped to hell and back, by gamers, the press, and even kinda Sony by putting it on theathers. What we got in exchange is a few cool multiplats and underwhelming first-parties, which could be fine but people expected way more.

But it's just the later that's being heavily critized (and imo rightfully so) here on GAF. There are threads for other games on the front page: Onimusha, PB0, AC8 and even fucking Psi-Ops from the PS2, and those threads are quite positive with people being hyped about the games and discussing stuff.

I think you're just observing the majority of drive-by gaffers who are probably very young, or very old and set in their ways. I'm the latter and I have my preferences and won't apologize for them.

There are some true gamers here, all with different tastes but they aren't as active as some others who are likely just looking for attention and don't really hate everything they see.

I've never been much of a fan of twitchy action games or horror games. I prefer Japanese games and RPGs mostly, and for me, PS2 and PS3 were my favorite PS gens and while PS4 had some great games, it started going down hill for me. The last PS exclusives I enjoyed where the Ghost of games, and even they felt a bit boring and by-the-numbers, but I loved the atmosphere and design of those games.

I find it kind of funny to see so much complaining here, now, when PlayStation is kind of struggling to satisfy its fan base, when Xbox and Nintendo fans have put up with exactly this kind of hate for years before now, and it's like all things are finally leveling out in that regard.

You think I am exaggerating? I had to double-check and look at your join date lol.

I am not here saying games shouldn't get criticism... or that people can't have opinions... but you gotta admit that when you go through almost every game thread...especially those from certain publishers, you start to see certain patterns and very lazy, disingenuous takes. Not just with Sony games, it happens with MS games too, and its tsrated hapenning with Nintendo games. The only people that seem to be getting off with it now are Capcom and from... who mind you I have my own qualms with but won't get into that.

As for the show being hyped... which show hasn't been hyped? What did people actually expect? Like how or what does anyone think a wolverine game should be like? Should we have given him a sword? Imagine the shit show on these forums if the game didn't have gore? I feel they took it in the best direction possible, and what they showed confirms that the game is combat-focused... and yet it's a horrible game.

And sorry... psi ops? And yet at this very show control was shown... and yet you don't see the problem? Like really?

Imo it's pretty normal that Nintendo, MS and Sony get the most criticism since those are the biggest players, so it's normal that people expect the most of them.

And when it comes to lazy takes, yeah sure, shitposting is fun and the reactions system here on GAF kinda incentivices it. But I've never seen that as a problem nor something getting in the way of actual discussion.

Can't comment on the disingenous ones because that's very subjective. Some people could call disingenous something they just don't agree with.

Cool that we can agree on this lol.

Man, when a Nintendo direct or an Xbox showcase is released you can see a lot if not more criticism on their respective threads. Again, and I mean no insult, I think you are exaggerating here. The showcase did show some games people here are excited about, so I can't agree that it's all about negativity here on this forum.

About Wolverine, I didn't see anything special about it and I've read posts of people being disappointed. But I could get if some others like it, I'm 100% not the target audience for that game.

When it comes to GOW tho, I believe the criticism is fair. What they show had terrible pacing and even worse writting, while the actual gameplay didn't feel all that different from the previous game (except some aerial moves which was cool) and graphically it didn't seem like anything special. Compared to the GOW '18 reveal back then, it's like comparing a blow job to a pat in the back.

And sorry... psi ops? And yet at this very show control was shown... and yet you don't see the problem? Like really?
Hey people like what people like. Psi-Ops it's a pretty cool game and even if one doesn't like it, I bet many Sony fans are happy about the fact of having more PS2 games being available on a more modern console.

"Hyped to hell and back" You sure?
I follow ya typical gaming news and nothing stood out as over hyped.
Maybe by gamers but why would anyone take note of that?
Casuals are probably the only ones you'll get an honest opinion from since they dont follow the social media, sheep mentality.

One of the problems is that it's in a God of War game and doesn't really "fit".

Also the game's weird mashup of worlds is jarring to me. The one girl in charge looks like something from South or Southeast Asia but is wearing what looks like Egyptian armor. There was also a statue or something of what looked like an Egyptian cat earlier in the footage.

Show was a complete let down for me. So fucking predictable to see the 1st party games. They all look and act the same. Where is the quirky fucking smaller shit Sony used to champion? They spend half a decade (if not longer) on 3rd person slop like we saw?! And people accept that? I just can't anymore. What a complete failure this gen has been for me as a Sony Playstation fan. And as has been said in this thread, if not for GTA6, I'd be selling my PS5 Pro. Really really disappointing generation.

I missed it. Is the list in the OP all the games?

Nm, skipped through it. Tomb raider looks great, until dawn looks good, Raman looks great. The dune game looks good.

Can't comment on the disingenous ones because that's very subjective. Some people could call disingenous something they just don't agree with.
Like I said I won't knock anyone for having an opinion, or hell for saying, " Nope... not for me". In the same way, I would say games like Until Dawn aren't for me.

But when I say disingenuous, I mean that literally, talking about the people that would shit post detroit and then praise Sensuas Saga. That will praise Assassin's Creed and yet shit post ghost of tsushima... or vice versa.... or in the worst cases... that would start talking about a game being the worst thing ever when all they have seen is a trailer... and not even one of gameplay.

I wasn't saying all this specifically about Sony, as I said this happens to everyone. Its done to everyone...
About Wolverine, I didn't see anything special about it and I've read posts of people being disappointed. But I could get if some others like it, I'm 100% not the target audience for that game.
And for me I didn't see anything bad about it... in truth, the game is turning out to be exactly how I imagined it would be when it was revealed. But make no mistake... no matter what was shown, it would have got the same kinda reaction. You know... woke/gaas/dei sony is in the ringer right now... so EVERYTHING they show, is met with the same usual anti woke, lets push an agenda hating sony right now. Even in when the game isnt woke.

How vile this has actually got? They even attack character designs now... or start hating voice actors... like the levels they take this shit to is actually embarrassing.

And you can imagine how wild this is for me, being that a came in a time when character design was what I got in FF Tactics or MGS1...
Pacing? That was the into... and we don't even know if that's the intro, as it would be in the final game. Thats like saying the OG GOW2018 reveal had terrible pacing. Like, let's be honest here... what was bad about that trailer? And worse writing? Compared to what?Like we in the same industry here? And sorry, what does anyone know about the story of that game?

And here is the thing for me... compared to the empty shit we've been fed on most games, in the short time I watched GOWF... I actually started giving a fuck about a jelly cube.

And graphics... can you show me any game made since 2018 that graphically/artistically would put that game to shame? There isn't even a game shown in that SOP that does that... and that speaks more to the state of the entire industry... and not any one game. But more importantly, every game... based on any given engine... has a certain "look". Just like how you can tell an UE5 game from a mile away, or how all Capcom games tend to look the same somehow, its not different from Sony games on their in-house engines. a SSM studio game will look like an SSM game, an ND game will look like an ND game... and an Insomniac game will look like an Insomniac game.

This is the same with every other publisher... so what am I missing? I mean, from games have been looking like from games since Demon's Souls. And don't get me started on Capcom. At least Sony's studios attempt to use different engines.
Hey people like what people like. Psi-Ops it's a pretty cool game and even if one doesn't like it, I bet many Sony fans are happy about the fact of having more PS2 games being available on a more modern console.
Of that I have no doubt... its just funny to me cause I owned that game... and I have played Control... and looking forward to Control 2. And to me... well lets just say nostalgia is a helluva drug.

This has now surpassed all State of Plays and showcases in just 5 days.

The only one not surpassed was the PS5 presentation obviously.

Seems like Sony has figured out the formula for these shows or at least people seem to be enjoying them as much and more than the showcases.
