Xbox Game Pass Price Cut Is Working, says CEO Asha Sharma

One of the first decisions that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma made after becoming the new boss earlier this year was to cut the price of Xbox Game Pass significantly. In a memo to staff recently, Sharma explained the thinking behind the price cut and talked about the impact it's making so far, saying it's helping move Xbox in the right direction.

"Growth slowed down and subscriber loss accelerated after the pricing and SKU changes last year," Sharma said in the memo obtained by The Verge. "Since our price reduction we have seen acquisitions grow and retention improve, which is a good first step."

Also in the memo, Sharma said Game Pass still has a challenging road ahead.

"We will not solve this in one moment or one launch," Sharma said. "We will have to outwork the problem in front of us in our path to restore durable growth."

All of this positive momentum by Asha thus far really makes it look more and more as if Phil just didn't give a shite anymore.
He's there helping her make all these moves. All she's done is capitalize Xbox, take COD off Xbox, and lowered the price of Game Pass because of that. The latter two would have happened with or without her, she's just getting the PR credit for it.

So you know when the autopilot is screaming PULL UP. PULL UP and the ground is rushing towards you in the cockpit window? Well the good news is the window shows the sky now...the only question is were you flying a nimble fighter jet or a passenger jet?

Think of how much more growth can be achieved if it is rebranded to GAME PASS. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I kept buying those Game Pass cards at Walmart. I am stacked for 2 years but after that i wasnt going to resub at $30.

I know Game Pass at $23 is still $3 higher than before CoD was even added, it was $20. I don't care for Fortnite Crew but the Ubisoft Classics is actually decent, they increased Day 1 games from 50 to 75, and i get use out of the improved Xcloud on my Xbox Ally so I am ok with the 3 dollar increase.

Technically its more expensive product with less inclusions. Unless your attention span is limited to a single price movement. Which it seems is the norm.
I believe that there are currently no less inclusions than there were before the price reduction. Unless you're talking about future COD titles.

How does it have less inclusions than when it was $20 and had shitty Xcloud. They added Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft Classics, rolled out much improved Xcloud service and increased from 50 to 75 Day 1 games.

For those Day 1 games it seems like Xbox partners with a lot of established developers so many of those Day 1 games end up reviewing pretty good, anywhere from 75 to 90s scores. And they seem to find up and coming developers to release Day 1 like they did with Expedition 33. if you like just one of those extra 25 Day 1 games then that alone justifies the extra 36 bucks a year, because most new games are 40 to 70 dollars.

Unless you're talking about future COD titles.
When you sub you are paying for future inclusions, I mean you are literally pre-paying. The single largest Day 1 inclusion is removed in the future. So yeah thats exactly what I'm talking about. Perhaps more to the point they broke the Day 1 promise, we'll see where that ends up.

They raised GamePass prices slightly.
They raised GamePass prices slightly again.
They MASSIVELY raised GamePass prices.
They quickly lowered GamePass prices slightly (while removing features and new Call of Duty).

Wow. Thanks capital X, capital b, capital o, capital x!

Its working so much that I didn't even notice. And they will eventually go back to the original price anyway.

Or perhaps, the way the news is being reported is in a biased manner to trick you into believing Asha is doing everything right.

I don't think there's a single universe where Asha can make price changes without communication, forecasting, and approval from her bosses. What does that tell you about the current glazing of her as being better than Spencer — an Xbox exec who also needed approval from his bosses to pull the trigger on all Xbox changes?

You still don't get it... Asha is the BOSS.
Nadella likes her...
