Ozempic. Does it work?

Further to my earlier point of avoiding muscle loss on Mounjaro, fresh stat from today.

Pre-Mounjaro at 115kg bodyweight
Turkish getup max 20kg

On Mounjaro at 92kg bodyweight
Turkish getup max 24kg
  • 20/115 = 17.4% BW
  • 24/92 = 26.1% BW
  • a ~50% jump in relative load
What the hell is a turkish get up ? Your mom chasing you with slippers ?

I'll never forget, about 9 years ago an overweight co-worker and myself were eating mcdonalds together for lunch.. she turned to me and said you know were fat cause we eat this a lot, right?

I looked her dead in the fucking eyes and said 'yep.'

Thats the end. People are fat cause they eat shit, and too much of it. It's simple as that. If you wanna lose weight, you gotta stop eating so much fucking food. Entire billion dollar industries have been built around the fluff of that shit. It's so simple

I started taking free samples of Wegovy (from my doc) back in August. I'm not even really a big dude aside from height (6'3, 250lbs at the time) and I noticed a difference within a few weeks.

Now since prices are all over the place, I have a nurse friend who "makes" the semiglutide herself. So I wind up with a little syringe bottle and shoot myself up once a week. Lasts about three months. The doc said he'd like to see me at 190 or under and I think I'd look like a twig. I'm already at 210, look great and my body is basically like "Yo Im good, Im not losing any more." No matter how hard I try I don't really get below that.

The only issue is (and I still suffer from it) either overly buying groceries (because I wind up not eating half the stuff because your appetite changes so drastically) or over ordering food either at a restaurant or delivery or what. Then I just end up with a shitload of leftovers that go to waste.

I say go for it if you have a good doc and can afford it. I just think its hilarious how the media worshipped obesity only 4 years ago, treating it like a thing of beauty and perfectly healthy. Now with the pendulum swinging slowly back into normalcy, it's gone completely reverse and just about everyone I know is taking something to look thinner.

I've never used it but it definitely works. With GLP-1s we may cure rampant obesity in America within a decade or so. They definitely have side effects though from what I've heard from people who take them. Diarrhea, vomiting, among other things.

Never had any side effects. The only thing I avoided for awhile was alcohol because I heard it makes you nauseous as hell. Well eventually I bit the bullet and had a few cocktails. Was perfectly fine.

I don't lose weight on it but it does an amazing job of keeping my A1C down. I also make a point to try to keep muscle mass up since loss of muscle is a common issue. I also like tacos a whole bunch.

100% this. I wish I would have done a better job here when I started the jab.

Also, this will probably sound lame or embarrassing but it's a monumental win for me. I have had a "family share 120z" bag of peanut m&ms in my freezer for almost two weeks and I have about half of it left still.

Normally that would have been gone in a sitting/single night while I was playing a game. The shift in basic "sugar lust" has been worth it for me.

Glad to hear it's working out for you! Keep up the protein, calcium, and strength training though!

I was like this before ozempic happened. Body dysmorphia, young age..i was around 105lb at 5'5" male early 20s. Now 42 at 156-157 12-13%..insane how old people are doing this when muscle atrophy accelerates

There are no shortcuts for keeping in good shape. Drugs is not the way.

In my late forties, I managed to remove the belly I had grown since January in 5 weeks: work out, healthy diet, rest and plenty of water, no alcohol.

It takes discipline but you feel much better than consuming whatever substance, harmful or not.

I have low free T and my doctors keep telling me it's because my obesity and they're telling me to take a GLP1. Idk I can't even afford it so it's not like I even have a choice but I hate fucking dieting, I really do. I can't eat bread which I absolutely love, etc.

Sorry to say that you will have to diet with the GLP 1. It fact you can even eat bread as long as you keep a healthy calorie deficit.
Go to check with a good nutritionist before anything else, and try to adhere to a diet that fits what you like to eat.

Gross.

Look how weird her calves look. It's like eating chicken and after you eat a chunk of a drumstick, and you miss a skinny bit of meat attached the the bone. You missed it because the meat is so small it blended in with the bone.

She's got so little flesh left even her knee cap skin is sagging.

As a rule I would 100% agree but there are some situations it makes sense. My dad is about 75 years old. He is fat and has bad knees and a bad hip. His weight makes it so his joints hurt. He can't exercise because of his joints. It a terrible cycle. He is going on it soon to help him lose the weight and get to a place where he isn't in pain anymore.

Then he should be able to get active again as his joints won't be in constant pain.

He's someone that really needs the help to get to the start of a healthy life.

I know I would need to diet but I would also have reduced food noise? Because that's the one thing that happens to me. I'm always fucking hungry. Or feel like I am.

One meal a day and walking. You'll shed like nobodies business.

Do a 3 day water and coffee fast every few months too.

Then within reason you can eat whatever you want for that one meal and some cheating on the weekends.

I can't even fathom doing something like this. How much do people eat during that one meal?!

That's basically how ozempic works. Its good for people whose obesity causes mobility issues since it kickstarts the calorie deficit and makes it easier to get walking.

Check with a good nutritionist.
You will have all your answer. He will give you a standard diet for you to CHOOSE WHAT YOU LIKE (that's the main problem with anyone that goes to a nutritionist, they expect that the first appointment is final diet). On the second appointment he will make something specific for your taste.

My layman take is he would probably partition your meals in small quantities, fill you up with protein and maintain at a least a minimum of what you like to eat as long as it isn't some calories bomb. Plus a truckload of water. Many times you are just thirsty but your body can tell the difference.

Fasting, especially the ones where you go for 18-20 hours without eating, usually destroyed my mood (and probable yours too).

Normally, unless you are a morbid obese, if you manage to cut out excess calories, you can already start losing weight while beginning to adhere to a diet that suits what you like.

It's the 80/20 rule: if you cut or replace the 20% highest calorie intake in your diet (snacks, fat, heavy carbs on every meal, soft drinks with a ton of sugar, alcohol, etc) which is usually where you overindulge, you'll achieve 80% of the results. But you'll have to make choices.

Try to consistently reduces on those first, for a good 1-2 months and youi of for a good start.

Problem with the pill form is that you're skipping the self control training and probably introducing some sort of long term chemical problem.

For about 10 years I've been doing one meal a day during the week, maybe some brie cheese and homemade sourdough as a pre or post meal snack.

Walk 2 miles, some stretching, 20 push-ups ish

No real rules just a simple framework.

Active just maintaining my home and family stuff.

On the weekends more normal, and some beer.

Every few months a 3 day water and coffee fast too.

High school weight with zero fluctuation.

Sorry if this sounds condescending, but everyone hates dieting. I would love to eat french fries for every meal, but I don't because of the health problems I'd experience from it. Hell, I'm thinking about french fries right now. I just quietly suffer and redirect my attention to other things: home maintenance, gardening, exercise, videogames, reading, browsing GAF, whatever. It sucks being hungry all the time, but my relatives are all eating pharmaceutical salads every morning to address their high blood pressure, cholesterol, vitamin deficiencies, and other health issues. Screw that.

Figure out your target weight that you'd like to be at, and then use an online calculator to determine your basal metabolic rate based on your height. This will help you establish how many calories you need daily to maintain that target weight, and you'll be in a caloric deficit. Then start keeping track of what you eat to make sure you stay at the target caloric intake. Over time, you'll learn what foods have what calories and the micromanagement can diminish once you've established good habits. Slowly curtail the junk food and increase the healthy stuff. Don't go cold turkey on what's delicious though. If you cut it out entirely, you likely won't be able to create a longterm healthy eating habit. I try to eat as healthy as possible, but that doesn't stop me from opening a bag of chips or enjoying a cookie here and there. Have the occasional cheat day so you don't go insane. Balance is key, you have to reward yourself.
