Microsoft isn't removing Copilot from Windows 11, it's just renaming it

From a casual Windows user what exactly would I need AI to do ?

Quick file search. This already keeps getting more fucked with each Window iteration.
Advanced troubleshoot. 100% won't fix the problem and you will go to forums or reddit for the solution anyway.
Photo Edit. I guess casual people would love a simple tool that could fix photos.

None of that I bet would justify the amount of power Co-Pilot would consume/steal and slow your system.
Make a separate Grandma Co-Pilot version if you have to for computer illiterate.

Microsoft says Windows 11 changes are "directly influenced" by users

During a recent meetup with Windows Insiders in Seattle, the company said future updates are being "really directly influenced" by user feedback, with Windows chief Pavan Davuluri adding that Microsoft plans to "double down" on that effort throughout 2026.

How is that comment useful to anything. Get in the debate or gtfo.
Nah, I've no interest in debating platform merits with a simpleton. Look at your post, it was meant to do nothing more than arouse ire. You've no interest in debate, just rabble rousing and finger pointing, such is why I framed my comment the why I did, for you see,
"get a hobby you weirdo",
with a playful lol punctuation there, is a far kinder alternative to saying
"wow, what a rude dick you're being, maybe try not being such a rude dick?"
but considering how you responded I'm kinda wishing I went with the latter option to show you the respect you clearly deserve.

Have a great day Internet shit kicker, hopefully today's shit stirring will allow you to feel the strength from online interactions that you will most certainly never feel in real life. :D

My point is that you always have to option to leave. People bitch about Windows but stay on the platform.

People do leave. I'm posting from my daily driver PC running cachyOS right now. Steam Deck has been a thing for a while. Steam OS will probably release to the general public alongside Steam Machine this year. So your assumption that people "stay on the platform" isn't quite accurate at all. Interesting that you phrase those who do as being Microsoft's "bitch" though.

He's just another Internet dweller who thinks combativeness is a substitute for a personality. Not even worth thinking about.

Your logic make no sense. People who bitch about Microsoft are still on Windows. People who moved on have no reason to complain. But they far from being the majority.

No, you just don't get what I'm trying to say, but we are going in circles so no point continuing.

But yet you do debate. You should stop projecting yourself in others. There's tons of winning people like you, always playing the victim and when you point out it's might you own fault. You fall into weak insults and play the victim once again once they get the response to grow up.

All I'm saying is that almost everyone think Windows is shit. But yet they still have 92% gaming PC platform share. Like you said, there's cachyOS and SteamOS now a day. At what point we can put the fault on the gamer for not doing the switch ? If you despise Windows but still stick to it, you deserve being Microsoft little bitch.

Microsoft didn't gain their PC OS monopoly due to quality. Quite the opposite, most of the OSes they released were terrible.
They always played dirty and although they got sued a lot of times, by many countries, it was still worth it to create the current monopoly, as the fines were mere slaps on the wrist in comparison.
And whenever they had to compete on a more even playing field, they lost most of the time by a huge margin. A few examples are the Zune, Bing, Groove, Edge, Kin, Windows Phone and Lumia, Surface, etc.

I recall many years ago not being able to buy hard drives from a whoelsaler without also purchasing Windows licenses. Microsoft made deals a multiple levels to protect their monopoly. Of course, this is back when Bill Gates was running things. We all know what an honest, upstanding person he turned out to be. /s

Also, Apple is the only manufacturer projecting higher laptop sales this year. Everyone else is down. Not to mention amount of people for whom an iPad or Android tablet or Chromebook is "good enough".

No windows on Macs. And yeah, I think we will see Linux expand a bit as well.

MS is playing with fire I feel. You can also look at governments around the world getting rid of Windows.

That's pretty interesting although I do wonder if even that will be enough for MS to get a clue. On a personal level, I get laptops from my brother and had been using Windows 10 up until a recent replacement. I refused to upgrade previously and I'm glad I held off because now that I am using Windows 11 - it's been a mostly unpleasant experience, much worse than 10. I do what I can with removing bloat and changing settings, but it's like customer preference and experience don't even factor a little bit into this product.

Microsoft Copilot Returns as a Sidebar in Windows 11

Microsoft is still experimenting with how to integrate its Copilot AI into the Windows 11 operating system, and the company seems determined to make its AI companion a primary feature on the desktop. According to a change that is gradually rolling out, Copilot now appears as a sidebar application, returning to the original form that Microsoft advertised back in 2024. By default, the first version of Copilot was a standalone application. However, Microsoft has updated the application to include an option to dock Copilot as a sidebar, which pushes all other applications aside. This change aims to increase product visibility and encourage users to discover any productivity benefits from the application. The new Copilot AI sidebar can be docked to either the left or right side, depending on user preference. In response, Windows 11's UI automatically resizes and moves desktop applications to accommodate the sidebar.

For those who remember, when Copilot launched in 2024, its original design was as a sidebar application, which was later changed to a standalone desktop design. After several iterations, we are now back to the original design, which is more integrated with desktop context menus, applications, icons, and other UI elements in Windows 11. The new design can be seen below, courtesy of Windows Latest.
Fortunately, Microsoft now also offers two distinct ways to remove the Copilot application. One method involves a registry edit, while the other is a group policy setting, which will help system administrators remove Copilot from all enterprise systems.

The first method is a Windows Registry edit. This involves opening the Registry Editor, navigating to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows," right-clicking on the Windows key, selecting New > Key, and naming the new key "WindowsAI." Next, users should go to the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsAI" path, right-click on the right side, select New > DWORD (32-bit), name it "RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp," then double-click the new entry and set the value to one (1). This should instruct Windows to remove the Copilot AI app and its elements, which should be visible after a restart.

The second method is through a group policy setting. Users can navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows AI and remove the Microsoft Copilot App. This only works if users did not install the application themselves.

FFS, this crap never ends with Microsoft...

I don't recall them saying they'd remove it completely, just that they'd tone it down
The above doesn't look particularly toned down. Also, Copilot is still crap, even the Enterprise kind, compared to pretty much any other main lab product (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini).
