You do know that the overwhelming majority of all consumer goods across all sectors are sourced from China right?

Say what you want about Chinese construction standards (or the lack thereof), which do need real address, but to extrapolate that into some idea that everything Chinese made is cheap tat is once again, moronic.

If that were true they would never be where they are economically.

I don't know how selling cheap stuff would exclude it from being good economically, but feel free to buy chinese motherboards from Alibaba. I'm sure it'll work out of the box and give no problems whatsoever.

SK Hynix and Samsung are Korean but I understand what you mean. There is a push for more Chinese goods.

regarding chinese cars.... i was surprised that some people at my work have recently replaced their cars with chinese EVs. i'm in the UK btw. literally just last week i was talking to someone and they said the make of the car and i had never heard of it before. the person said it's some chinese brand. i can't even remember what the hell it's called now. the only chinese car I know is BYD.

i've noticed people don't really seem to care if they own/use chinese products. i don't really mind it either personally. i've had loads of chinese smartphones and xiaomi products. so wouldn't be against chinese products. in fact, the only reason I know about BYD is because I was looking into a cheap electric car for myself. I'd definitely be more likely to buy a BYD (or any other chinese car) over something like a Tesla or any other american car.

i'm with you. maybe it does sound crazy but it kinda feels like the USA has peaked. I don't want to get political but europe (not EU) feels like it's trying to distance itself from the USA. Even the UK is trying to get closer to China but we're too damn close to the USA so i think the government is a bit too hesitant to do anything drastic and is playing both sides for now.

But it only like %[single digit] market share, and the Chinese DDR5 manufacturers also face huge demend of AI from Chinese AI techs companies. Also firm recent papers of Chinese AI model, ddr5 memory and cpu are mentioned as way to arrange data for AI models

There is a propaganda war between the two and there is something bigger than that brewing underneath it all.
On my end, I keep getting bits about how either side's military equipment is better than one another.

Nowdays China enables you to have what the west make it impossible for you to have anymore. You talk about social credit, but it is the west that drastically limits your options according to your credit rating as we can see with the ram debacle.

China is pushing at least as hard as the US if not harder. It's the new space race. Right now US is marginally behind due to energy production. We need more power.

Yes, one is clearly better than the other, and I say it as a French/Polish guy living in France and thinking American capitalism is borderline social darwinism. You guys should really try to live under a communist regime for even a year (Poland did for 45 years) to really get a taste of "both sides".

And yeah, I don't see any risk. The thing about RAM, it doesn't run any drivers, and it has to be designed to interface with other computer parts according to international standards. And Chinese quality has come a long way. Plus it'll hopefully drive down prices. No downsides except if you're another RAM manufacturer. Or a foreign government worried about Chinese businesses making too much profit, I guess.

Matter of time before CXMT DRAM is considered "good enough" for data centers so AI can clobber up long-term contracts and gaming is back at square one.

Eventually supply will catch up with demand. DRAM hasn't become significantly more expensive to make and having ~5 manufacturers will certainly help with meeting demand and drive price competition again.
 
TBH you have to give the Chinese gov credit for taking the chances to invest/subsidize their compute memory/storage industry when the market was at its lowest point and to be willing to sustain heavy financial losses waiting for the domestic vendor to mature (tech-wise, production-wise), so that they can reap huge amounts of profit right now when the shortage finally came. That's some long-term commitment you have to admire. Someone is reading Sun Tzu's book I guess.

And we don't really have a choice. You may freely evade all those "shady" Chinese brands from Amazon, etc., but most memory chips we use every day are pre-assembled and pre-installed. The Chinese chips are 20-50% cheaper but can achieve 90-95% of the performance; OEMs are drooling over them. And just like EVs the Chinese manufacturers won't stop there. Really, this pattern has been going on for decades across multiple industries.

All in all not necessarily a bad thing, even if you don't feel like Chinese chips. Someone will buy them. More supply (even if the supply is only available in a few regions), lower price.

Things are assembled/manufactured in China. They are "made in China" but they are not made by the Chinese. They are not Chinese technology/R&D.

Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi are all assembling their phones in China. But only Xiaomi phones are actually created in China.

These RAM kits, SSDs and GPUs we discuss in the topic are Chinese technology and R&D in the same way Xiaomi phones are.

Whether they are good products or not is a different story. But please understand the difference. Personally i avoid buying things created by the Chinese.
 
I have serious doubts about the quality & reliability of Chinese developed RAM, it's a completely different story than assembling hardware for western companies based on their specs. But hey, if it makes the RAM prices drop from them trying to compete, then let them keep doing it.

Some of this stuff from China is just plain better also. Gone are the days when we could call everything from China 'cheap crap'

(don't get me wrong, a lot of cheap crap is still made there, but I remember when Japan was mocked for it's motorcycles and they eventually had some of the best in the world, China are going that way also, was mocked until recently and now CF Moto and Benda are coming out with competition to Japanese, Italian and American motorcycles and in many cases doing it better, the CF Moto V4 is going to shake up the market, 210hp and weighs 200Kg and will be half the price of it's competitors)
