Jason Schreier‬: Bungie is planning significant layoffs, Destiny 3 is NOT in active production

Destiny 3 is at least 5 years away if they are even allowed to work on it.

To me this signals that they are giving Marathon 3-6 months and then closing Bungie if it doesn't improve.

Yep. Sony can keep the servers up and running indefinitely... but if they aren't doing Destiny 3 there's not much point in keeping the staff around.

No shit. With the news that they are winding down Destiny 2 and they are going to be incubating their next games, I could have broken this news, and I am just an idiot with a keyboard that did not even stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

I don't want to see anyone lose their job, especially in this economy, but Bungie is way too fat and not producing anything.

I expect to see like 60% of people laid off, just total gut job. Sony is done with this shit.

How fucking stupid is their leadership to not think Destiny over Marathon. And if Destiny 3 ever happens it will be at least 2032.

Tragic. First they gave up and abandoned Halo and now Destiny

So basically, that's the end for Bungie. At this point, the PlayStation board should resign, the brand has been managed incredibly poorly. They're incompetent and have become toxic to PlayStation and its users. Bungie was supposed to be their savior, helping them create their own Fortnite. Are they holding a contest with Xbox to nominate the worst board in the industry?

Spoiler alert : Marathon is not going to save Playstation!

Their leadership is absolutely retarded. The company only sold for as much as it did because the leadership "approved" 4 or 5 projects for incubation that they KNEW were never going to actually be developed. It was a scam to inflate their value.

I said when Marathon landed like a wet fart, when people said Bungie needed to pivot to D3, that Sony is not going to be excited to drop the $500M+ it will take to make that game. This seems to be the case.

IIRC Sony already replaced most of the people in charge of Bungie with their own people, after they failed to hit their targets.

Bungie is basically an industry slut , in bed with MS, Activision , tried to go solo before selling itself to Sony lol . I've never trusted them or cared for their games.

Bungie was completely independent until recently. Sony had little or no say about the development of their games

A number of Bungie staff, including some of the most experienced developers, have been working within Sony/PlayStation studios over the past few months and no longer at Bungie.

I said this years ago that they should've just played safe and worked on Destiny 3 and let a small team work on Marathon on the side. Instead they bet all their marbles on Marathon and pumped out MTX on Destiny 2, only to be in this situation now.

That was one of their stipulations for being bought out. They wanted to be independent and release their games on multiple platforms. Sony said yes and offered a lot of money. Microsoft saw they were a financial risk and walked away.

Back in the day under Microsoft and Activision, they weren't independent and... it worked.

Bungie just doesn't work as an independent company.
