PlayStation plus prices going up starting 5/20

It's like $7 a month for the yearly sub. I honestly don't see why I wouldn't pay for it. Economy is bad though maybe people really need that $7.
Multiply that by 12 and then again by the number of years you've been subscribed to PS+. How much money have you paid for a few services (that are free in other platforms) and a bunch of games you don't even own?

By god he's gonna go down swinging.

Most respectable Sony shill IMO because he doesn't even put up any pretenses.

The next price increase will be some justification like "the monthly cost is $11, so $99 for the year is still a hefty discount"
I honestly think that there's a case for abolishing online gaming fees on consoles, or at least heavily reducing them.

Look how most paid online games have PC-based majorities, that can't be good for business long-term when the pendulum is swinging away from F2P.
It's really just about GTA6. The online mode isn't f2p so people need a PS+ sub to play it.
Xbox completely fucking up the gen essentially gave Playstation a defacto exclusive, so that definitely tracks.

I dropped PS+ and picked up the Nintendo Online Family Plan for the same price. I'm sure Nintendo will raise the price too. We will see when that happens.

The reason online is free on PC is because most game companies run their own servers, so there's no need to-
Wait a minute...

But Playstation have a store to maintain. It's not like they get a cut of the sales-
Ack!

Subscriptions are wank. These companies will CONTINUOUSLY raise prices over and over.
Whether you bow out sooner or later, you will bow out.

Those record profits won't generate by themselves :messenger_grinning_sweat: :pie_roffles:

But it's clear what they're doing they want people to migrate to higher and more profitable tiers like Extra and Premium.
And they want to discourage people from subscribing for 1-3 months and then leave.
Basically what has happened to Gamepass.
I don't know if they're reaching these goals with a 1$ price increase.

Of course they are, this is the only way these fucks make money anymore, by gouging their customers. People keep bringing up record profits, but how do you think they got those? It wasn't from selling video games, it from MTX and subscriptions.

When I was subscribed to PS plus many years ago, I always loved it when I'd unsub and Sony would ask "Why are you cancelling your subscription?" and I'd always write "Fuck you."

Good times.

And simps will sub for GTA6 when it requires online.
Good reason for me to not play it
I dropped my sub like a motherfucker after the first price hike. Year plus ago

All MP games will be pc exclusive in the future

Market conditions??? What market conditions lol? More like their pathetic woke flop games they need to recoup somehow.

Arrogant Sony is fully back!
They've been Arrogant Sony for a very long time now.

If people continue to pay for this, then they've only themselves to blame for its ubiquity. Speak with your wallet folks, it's the only vote you've got that matters. I cancelled all subscriptions, game and film, about a year ago and haven't thought about any of them once in the time since.

You don't need them.

That's it I'm out, ps5 was used mainly by the kids, I'm gonna let the sub end and then move them to a mini pc, this is utterly ridiculous at this point.

Imagine paying for services you get for free everywhere else.
It's time for EU to protect the consumers and force Sony & MS to accept third-party payments options and stores on their platforms.
It was easier when sony allowed PS+ subscriptions to be purchased theough multiple retailers. I once was able to get black Friday sales, reward point claims, and purchases though key sites.
Now, you can only pay Sonys price, which is making me consider renewing. Being able to stack years of service on a discounted price should still be allowed.

Overpriced service raising prices yet again lol Fuck off. I don't even play online games at all anymore because of pay to play online bull shit getting out of hand. With the way free to play games dominate the market, you'd think they'd take a fucking hint.

Also anyone claiming "Oh it's just $1", look at it this way. That's a minimum $1 extra dollar for 50 million PS+ subscribers; if those people keep their subs for a year, that is at least an extra $50 million in sub revenue per month, or $600 million per year.

Between this and the console price increases and who knows what else, pretty easy to see how SIE are planning to hit their 32% return on investment spend per the fiscal reports. Now you have to ask yourself as someone in the ecosystem if you're comfortable getting increasingly squeezed like a piggy bank.

Bad market conditions because their GAAS like Destiny and Marathon tanked, combined with their in-house GAAS projects scrapped over the years and $765M impairment charge to devalue Bungie has lead to some sketchy financials.

Since you cant just make great games out of thin air, best way to goose up the revenue is a sub plan increase. No different than Netflix.

And the dumb thing about gaming sub plans is any company can announce it and make it effective literally the next day. In this case, Sony is making it effective in 2 days. Most people wont even know about it unless they track gaming news. At least for things like cellphone or cable tv sub plans you get that letter in the mail saying any $5 increase goes into effect in a month or two. But some reason price changes for gaming sub plans can be virtually right away.

I remember one of the Sony PS+ prices increases was announced going into effect around Labour Day. I think they announced it on a Thursday or Friday(?) People are on vacation and Labour Day Monday and it went into effect Tuesday. Nobody expect gamers following news that weekend would even know.

If it was actually because of "market conditions" it'd be a temporary surcharge lol. Not a permanent hike lmao.

The reality is they want to grow their services revenue. And as long as half PS5 buyers are still suckers who pay for paid online, the price increase aren't going anywhere. Since PS+ has no subscriber growth and they already did the upper tier upsell trick.

I'm not very fond of this trend of milking your base of users through suscriptions models any more, this will backfire sooner or later, be it Sony or any other company. The service hasn't neither improved so much in order to justify these price increases, Xbox learned it the hard way. We'll see what happens.

No way am I subbing again at these prices - I'm PC for online only now
One of the reasons I got rid of console gaming here in Brazil at least. I was paying R$ 500,00+ a year basically just to play online, and the games are 100% of the time more expensive than on PC. So fuck it.

Nice, I'll download GT7 for my PC right now!
Ironically as an always online game, there is a far higher likelihood that GT7 will be playable on PC long after its servers have been turned off in the future.

As for the right now part - I assume you're a grown adult and capable of making decisions for yourself. If you want to buy a game that can only be played on the PlayStation, along with all the hardware and subscriptions that entails, then nobody is going to stop you. I was simply pointing out that a free alternative exists on other platforms, and it's mostly comparable to the experience you'd have on PlayStation.

They should keep bungie alive and wasting billions for the next decade and passing on the costs to the customer. Acouple more Horizon hunters and fairgames will help too.

So $11 month for new customers to play online, and no Cloud Gaming included.

I was expecting a price hike for Premium tier instead, to $20 or $22 month.

I'm not even certain if Australia gets this new price increase but I have cancelled my PS+ subscription which was set to renew next month. Greedy mother fuckers.

It's currently for new customers. So now that you cancelled, you won't count as a recurring customer. Congrats on being reborn, new customer.

To be honest, I was going to cancel it regardless. I'm over paying for this shit. This just pushed me over the edge. Once I get GTA6 and finish that fucker, I may just be done with Playstation altogether. Their exclusives are shithouse now. Their customer service is atrocious and their security (seeing what is happening with Colin) is alarming. I think I'm just about done with them.

Two thoughts.

1.) Based on recent events with Sony. What DO YOU THINK WOLVERINE WILL COST? $80? (That's my guess!)

2.) Feels like we are going the wrong way. If we could get an option with NO Free Games, and just online pay. What is that $30 a year? That would be fine. They should look to save consumers money.

ALL OF THIS Feels like urgent concern for PS6. Plus, I am convinced MS will pull COD from PS sooner than the mythical 10 year. agreement.

Companies should be forced by law to break down how their price increase is forced by "market conditions" when they pull this argument out of their ass.

Literally, I want to see the Excel spreadsheet.

Eh I just resubbed for a year a couple of months ago. If they put the price of yearly up before it's due, I won't bother next time. Was on the cusp this year but still playing BF a bit.

Market conditions = they haven't been selling games. Nobody is buying into their GAAS stuff. It's for sure a woke tax. Sony has sucked this gen. They don't get enough shit. They have been coasting off their ps4 success.

Sony is greedy AF. Literally milking their customers for every dollar they can. 600 dollars for six year old hardware and 11 dollars per month to play online multiplayer they can kiss my ass.
