Switching main library from PS to Steam?

Has to be console experience in the living room. I hate gaming on a desk or using Windows from a couch.
Windows from a couch can easily be a "console experience". Auto log in and start in steam big picture mode. I"ve been doing it for ages, no issues.

I buy a lot of video games, and Steam sales do still serve an important niche for buyers.

Several games don't get listed on key seller sites for one reason or another, making Steam discounts the actual lowest price available.

Even when I'm buying a bunch of titles in bulk from key sites, I'm still regularly buying things during the seasonal sales on Steam.

Keys sites don't have some games or have limited supply because, you know, most of them get those keys through illegitimate ways (inside work form workers of studios or publishers, money laundering etc) and in limited quantities.

Publishers have repeated they don't sell keys to them, they have pretty much all of them their HQ in fiscal paradises, surely we don't think a publisher is so dumb as to put 50 in their own store but sell it for half the price to Eneba or G2A so they can sell it for 25 and destroy your own store.

This is not how verified key sellers operate.

Games aren't always available, because the key sellers buy Steam keys in bulk from developers. If the key seller doesn't think they can flip their inventory, they won't buy the keys. Running out of stock typically happens when key sellers discount games at their lowest prices to clear out inventory.

I have considered it, but did not make moves yet. I do not mind weaker graphics, I played GoW Ragnarok, SM2, and Ghost of Yotei this year and got tired of AAA slop (Yotei was good), I turn on PS5 Pro maybe once a week now to play games I played in the past. Think if it is PS5 gaming you got tired of, or gaming in general? Sometimes I think I might actually play more if I get access to classics I never played, like HL2, GTA4, but then I am not sure if that is the case. Some time ago I played maybe half an hour of original Half Life as I have a shitty GPU laptop, then I did not feel like I want to finish it, game seemed rough.

I've built up my library quite a bit from PS4 onwards, but now I'm considering switching over to Steam. I like the Steam Machine, as I only like couch gaming. Games are a lot cheaper and I'd probably make back the hardware costs in a couple of years.

The problem is giving up the graphics power of my PS5 Pro. I'd be using a weaker device for a while until a more powerful PC hybrid shows up. Maybe the Xbox Helix, but that's still unconfirmed to support Steam. Im keeping the PS5 Pro for exclusives, so its just about where do I buy the next non-exclusive game on.

Anyone else considering it? What are your thoughts?

The good news about PC and Xbox play anywhere is if you do not mind the Xbox PC store, which while not as good as steam is still a great option on PC. It works a lot better than it did 8 years ago. You can buy Xbox play anywhere games like Forza Horizon 6 on Loaded.com (cdkeys) and have it both on Xbox on PC. So you could play on any PC and a Helix if you decided to pick one up.

Just hook up the controller of your choice to your computer and hook it up via HDMI to your same TV/receiver that your PS5 is on.

My gaming PC is hooked up to my receiver alongside my game consoles. I have an Xbox controller adapter plugged in with a red Series X controller synced to it and a dumb wireless keyboard w/ built in touchpad for desktop navigation, but all my games are played on my controller. I have Steam, Epic, GoG, Xbox apps w/ the games.

I pretty much did the same as this around 5 years ago now.

No regrets.

I bet the prices weren't crazy like this 5 years ago. Here's the real problem I have; You'd have to spend 2K to get something worth it over the PS5 Pro. And I'm getting a PS6 anyway for exclusives, so that PC is going to matched pretty soon.

Yeah they weren't that's for sure. I'd still say its worth it in the long run now. I don't have a high end rig by any means, It's just a 4070, upgraded originally from a 2060 with a 5700x3d and DDR4 32gb ram, but I'm happy with it.

My PS5 Pro has barely been used since I bought it. After GTA VI I think I'll sell it tbh.

Wich are the verified key sellers?

I understand that maybe buying in bulk you can have a 10/15% discount, but not to sell games at half the price and still have benefits.

I bought my gaming PC first. Since then if I see something I really like and might replay that I have on consoles for a cheap sale price I might rebuy it. I've been working on moving stuff over where it makes sense and doesn't cost much.

Ah OK, yes Humble Bundle and greenmangamimg I know are legit, but they don't sell just released games.

Most other key sites, though, are hidden piracy but with those sites making profit.
It depends on the game, but Greenman Gaming and Fanatical will sell just released titles. They also offer pre-orders. I got the Pragmata pre-release at more than a 20% discount.

Better than PS5 Pro (on futureproof AM5):

Go to gg.deals. They differentiate between legit and a bit sketchier ones. Loaded (such as stupid name, CDKeys was better) though should be fine.

Man, did you even click your links?

Some (few) fairly new games at 10/12% of discount, with direct Steam games in some cases, and tons of unknown indies and shovelware.
And your point is? You said "they don't sell just released games". They obviously do.

Are they a crazy 50% off? No, but often they are still cheaper than on Steam or the console stores.

Did that six years ago. Zero regrets. Do it. Unless your PC sucks. Not the best of times to upgrade.

Isn't this kind of a lateral move? I don't think the 9060XT is any better than what PS5 Pro offers in features and frames.

It is at least on par, but in many games it will be better (and you have options to suit yourself unlike on a console):

(Wukong is having much better image quality on that example above with bare 1080p on Pro and 4K reconstruction on 9060XT).

And 7500F is ~2x better than Pro CPU (and you can upgrade it to Zen 6 or Zen 7 when they launch). Steam machine on the other hand is ~80% of standard PS5 power and VRAM constrained from day one.

Jesus, the frame-times on the Pro sure suck in some of those games.

Not sure why you would feel like you need to rebuy.

Just buy what you are going to play on Steam going forward.
Yeah he should just wait until he wants to replay them, will probably find better deals down the line.

Plus there's so much stuff to play on PC it might be a while until he replays anything, if at all.

If you have access to a Microcenter you can get a 7500X3D and 9070XT system for $70 more. Only drawback is a single stick of memory, so there is a small performance hit from that.

https://www.microcenter.com/product/706648/powerspec-g532-gaming-pc

That's quite great. Performance hit from 1 stick of RAM won't be big anyway (and you can always add another stick in the future).

9070XT is pretty much PS6 level of raster power and that CPU is also much better than 7500F.

Jesus, the frame-times on the Pro sure suck in some of those games.

I think frametimes always look like that in 60Hz output when game is below that. With VRR it's not an issue.
