During a Mother's Day gathering I had a huge debate with cousins, siblings and my mother about the new look of Star Fox.

I love everything about it, they hate the legs and faces. Despite the differences of opinion everyone (aside from mother) plans on purchasing the game.

What say you?

I've never played any of the games so I'm going to say it's fine.
It's like deciding which is your favorite Dr. Who.
Eccleston was my first. That David Tennant guy was OK too, I guess. :)
But then the show gets pulled from Netflix and I wasn't able to see any others. So whatevers.

Most people saying yes are in the "who gives a fox" category because the overarching narrative or appeal of the series doesnt really mean much to them. Its "new" to them since most only know him from smash or that awful movie and its weird look is interesting to them.

64 had the best visual design. Low poly is hard to beat.

I think the new designs are so-so. Star Fox is hit and miss, Star Wolf I think they nailed them and Katt looks horrible. Nobody cares about Bill.

When you put them next to each other like this yeah, the new designs may be the best.

Star Fox 1: Fox checking out his next r**e victim, the others pretending that everything is fine.

Star Fox Command Slippy: If you're gonna get crazy high, at least do it when you're off work.

Star Fox 2: Me and the boys on our way to gang bang Krystal.

I actually like the look a lot, I usually dont care for games going for more "realistic" visual style but in this case it matches the game very well.

this looks amazing to me.

The smaller heads and realistic proportions give me the sense that the narrative from here on out is going to be taken so much more seriously. Smash Bros Melee, Event Match 33 filed Fox under Nintendo's realistic characters. I didn't understand until I thought about the war setting. This new style makes me think that Star Fox could end up with some darker story beats than we are used to.

One of my cousins preferred that Command look and at that point I had to questions his judgment. That style ain't no good to no body and it infected Smash for a while.

The cutscenes look intense. It really feels like they are trying to mature Star Fox.

To me, the characters are what sells this. Not only looking good but animated very well.

The environments are way too basic, lacking details.

If you were to put cartoon characters in a realistic environment it would look out of place.

I think these new designs are great, I prefer the animal look.

Aside from Prime 4 and Twilight Princess this is the first time I can remember in a long time that Nintendo was able to pursue relative realism. From Wii on it was basically a fools goal until now without looking horribly dated. If this style goes over well and at the moment I think it's going over very well, Nintendo might pursue a little more realism in other titles.

Mark my words. That weird and eerily "realistic" Donkey Kong Country aesthetic is going to come back with a vengeance!

I'd have preferred less realistic characters, but they're still good enough for me, and the environments + machines look solid.

Overall probably my biggest thing is wishing the game had a whole new campaign, and was a new entry vs a remake, but still looks fun.

it looks great, now also fix the gameplay and I'm interested.

I remember playing the original when it released and even at that time it was already boring as fuck. A 3 hour long on rails shooter for 150 bucks (at the time) was just crazy shit.

They should've properly remade the game with free flight.

I like them for the most part. What bugs me is that Fox, for example, have animalistic feet but human arms/hands.. Very strange mix.

Hopefully they won't show the lower half of the models much in-game.

It's an arcade game, meant to be replayed over and over until you master it and are able to unlock all the gold medals, unlocking master mode and then unlocking all the medals again. That's not something you'll do in 3 hours lol.

Plus it's a very fun game, so replaying it just feels natural. I'm jelly of people that never played it, they are in for a real good time with the remake (granted they don't fuck it up somehow)

You know now that Fox and the gang look like this, they won't feel out of place in that rumored Metroid X Star Fox title. Everybody wins!

Also Samus can now guest star in the live action Star Fox movie to help jump start her career.

The only thing I don't like is the digitigrade feet. Makes them look wonky.

Looking at the compilation picture the assault and command designs are way worse.

The constant negativity and entitlement online is becoming exhausting. Let creatives (devs) make what they want - if you don't like it, just don't buy it. Starfox looks fine; game and cutscenes are looking great imo.

I dont really give a shit, but would like a two player mode rather than this lame ass shit of "one person is gunner, one person is flyer".

I like the look but I miss the incoherent noises of the SNES version on the radio.
"Bebop bep! Bobah boh!"

Edit: music was also better.

As I recall you ever only really see it in the intro cutscene when they run to the hanger bay?

I confess I thought it was weird when I first saw it, but I got used to it and now I think it's pretty cool.

I had a similar feeling when I saw Mario in New Donk City in Odyssey, with other humans of normal proportions.

Realistic artstyles work very well with sci-fi and I think it was the right choice to do it that way.
The byproduct of this is the new character designs also had to be coherent with everything else. I think commiting to it and making them as realistic as they can be, with proper animal limbs and all is bold and refreshing and looks good in the context of the overall enviroment.

I also think Rocket Racoon's MCU depiction really helped with all of this.

the chaddification to me is hilarious.

honestly think it's better for the little ones brains to see a bulky manly fox then some anime weeb look.

The look has grown on me, i think he looks cool now.

Slippy and Peppy are the weird outliers.
