YouTube is Getting Worse

YouTube has driven alot of the good creators away and are pushing so much slop that even the good youtubers left are trying to adhere to what seems to get peoples attention or get their video into the algorithm stream.

Bumping this thread cause I've started noticing issues that some channels I'm subscribed to, their videos don't show up in the subscription feed.

I've gone through all settings, notification alerts and all that BS but I can't fix the issue.

Is youtube just trash now?

Haven't noticed anything yet.

Though, at this point we should be happy there's a subscription feed at all. It's the last useful feature Youtube has that allows some control of what you see, it allows a bunch of people like me to completely avoid the algorithm since this is the only part of Youtube i ever browse. No trends, no reccomended videos, no nothing. And for that reason i feel like Google will get rid of it soon. They can't have people watching only the things they want to watch. And then the shittyfication will be complete.

My biggest gripe are these AI channels that push out slop every two days. I think it would be easy for YouTube to flag a channel as AI by seeing how often they upload videos. AI channels simply cannot resist pumping out garbage every couple days.

I like how their new ""feature"" for "most relevant" videos show shit from days ago while pushing new videos out of the way. Why would I want to browse what's new from the channels I'm following when I can browse their old stuff instead!

Like, what the fuck is the purpose?

"The viewing figures of sites like Linus Tech Tips, Hardware Unboxed and other tech sites are down by 20-30%. All because of Google AI!!"

Or it's because right at that time the prices of RAM and SSDs skyrocketed, every single bit of computer hw became more expensive and lots of people weren't paying attention anymore because they'd put all all their hw upgrade plans on ice.

It's really no coincidence that hw sales are also down by 20-30%. Of course tech Youtubers will feel that blowout too.

This guy doesn't make hardware reviews. He makes software tweaks, troubleshooting, fixes, optimization, testing, etc.

I have heard other channels also talking about it(finance), it seems to affect everyone.

I wish there were a "nuke everything and let me start fresh" option for subs and browsing data. I miss when my recommendations were full of Carl Sagan clips, lawn care videos, and music production content. Now I have to actively go looking for that stuff, and no matter how many times I hit "Do Not Recommend" on Trump-related content, there's always an endless stream of replacements waiting behind it.

Go to your youtube history, then click on Clear all watch History. This should reset most of your recommendations.

You can also try changing your activity on your Google account.

I wish the "recommendations" at the top of the home page would at least sprinkle in some wildcards. Everything I get suggested is old videos of Red Letter Media and unofficial Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast clip compilations (which M&S would have every right to submit copyright strikes for).

The most "out there" recos I get are video game or film analyses by channels I've never heard of, just because YouTube knows the few channels I do watch are related to that.

Not surprising and even Gamer Nexus start to venture into some sort of investigative journalism which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Nothing exciting anymore, its all about AI, Sam Altman/Elon Musk/Trump/Lisa Su, tariff this and that, to the point I just tune out.

Maybe if the bubble pops things will get interesting again.

Yeah Search will maybe one or two videos based on my actual search query but otherwise it will just post random ass viral videos. It's bizarre.

It doesn't just feel like it - the algorithm really does seem a lot more aggressive lately. More and more of the "recommendations" feel like they're optimized for watch time rather than what the user actually wants. It's especially noticeable how often it pushes old videos or stuff that's completely unrelated to what you've been watching.

Sooner or later YouTube will be Myspaced. People don't like being nannied - because then you will lose popularity.
There should be a platform that allows EVVVRYBODY!!1 to post whatever they like (except for Furry-related stuff, of course).
