Uncovering Amy Hennig's Uncharted 4

Uncharted 4 was such a disappointment.
I wish we got this version instead.

My own personal gauge to see if someone has good taste in video games, that gel with my tastes is if they think Uncharted 4 was a disappointment or a "Masterpiece"

Uncharted 4 was such a boring, bloated, terrible mess of a game, to me and a failure of a sequel compared to the OG trilogy.

I think a mistake for Uncharted was when they began to make it too personal, which started a little in part 2 but definitely more around part 3. Once that happens, you're telling the beginning and end of a character's story rather than just treating him as an old school Lara Croft/James Bond type who has a new adventure every 5-10 years.

For some reason Sony made Ratchet and Clank the 'pop up every decade with a new adventure' character rather than Drake, even though one could argue Drake managed to become more iconic in a shorter time.

Totally agree. Once you give him a heavy relationship and normal obligations then you're stuck having to eventually retire the character. Maybe part of the appeal IS that seriousness between Nate and Elena, but the cost is completely killing the series. It should've just been like Bond where each installment is basically self-contained. And now they're screwed because a huge part of the game's appeal is Nate but you can't bring him back without trampling on the last game, and you can't even really use his daughter because he didn't escape that life just to blithely send his daughter off to do it instead.

Well, Uncharted 3 is the worst one for me, so glad it wasnt

Uncharted 3 is a masterpiece compared to U4.
It's only problem is that it didn't bring anything new after Uncharted 2. It could have just been DLC.
Uncharted 4, story is complete trash, mostly because of the characters.

When Lost Legacy is a better game with more interesting characters, you know you have a problem. I enjoyed Uncharted 4, but 2 and 3 were far superior.

I'd kill for a Golden Abyss remake, which doesn't get the love it should.

I always saw Uncharted as Sony's answer to Gears of War, so lots of shooty shooty pew pew. Uncharted 3 didn't have so much of that and so for me wasn't as good. I don't play the Uncharted games for the story, it's there, sure, but I play them for the action and that's something 4 does very well. I love the Uncharted games, some of my favourite games of all time but for some reason just didn't like 3

Nate not having a gun for most of the game? Amy was smoking something lol.

The fact that they went from that to one of the best controlling TPS ever is crazy.

I didn't know UC4 was so disliked. Other than a few PS3 romps at a friends house, 4 was the first game I actually sat down with to tackle. But I didn't have that great a time, so I didn't finish it and never went back to the other games.

Maybe I'll give the series another shot starting at 1 this time.

People just have a hate thing for Neil in here. They already know the next Naughty Dog game will be shit since it has a bald girl in it. Imagine saying an Uncharted game almost without a gun would be "a better game" lmao. Either people didn't watch this video or i don't know what's happening.

Man, I miss Uncharted. I just randomly fired up the Nathan Drake collection and started playing through Uncharted 1 a few weeks ago. Love these games. Count me as someone in the camp who wishes they just kept the story going. Not necessarily with Nate's kid, but Nate. So much you could still do telling stories of a younger Drake with Sully or even post Uncharted with 4 with Nate.

I'm normally not a fan of endless sequels but Uncharted is one of those series I'd be okay with it. Of course I don't have a lot of faith in current Naughty Dog.

it may be called Uncharted, but Uncharted is Nathan Drake's game, the same as Tomb Raider is Lara Croft's.

Change that and you have a different product.
I dunno, so long as the gameplay is intact I don't really care that much, so long as it looks and feels like an Uncharted game I'm fine with it really. Lost Legacy for example still felt like an Uncharted game. But we don't know what they'll do with it yet, maybe Nate will be in it and be more like Sully from the earlier games, maybe it still stars Nate (prequel or sequel), we just don't know so can't judge it yet if it even exists (I think it does)

I could marry this post.

While Amy Hennig's more recent track record is questionable, she did write and direct Soul Reaver 1 and 2. Both games eclipse everything that Naughty Dog has ever put out.

With regards to Druckmann, I can only observe that he worked as a writer on ND's best game, which is The Last of Us 1. And worked as writer and director on ND's worst game, which is The Last of Us 2. So his track record is questionable as well. Bruce Straley seems to have a more consistent track record and might be the actual "guy behind the guy/girl" at ND. Who knows.

Like what?
Like killing Elena in Uncharted 2.

Or having The Last of Us (the 2013 original) being a game in which Tess it the main villain and kills Joel.. yes, this shit would have been Druckmann's 2013 The Last of Us.

Bruce is politically using "we" here but it's clear from the making of he's the one who pushed back, hard, on this nonsense.

Not a coincidence the moment Straley is gone this rejected bullcrap becomes The Last of Us: Part II.

UC4 has the worst pacing and bloat of any UC game. Lost Legacy is far superior in so many ways. Much tighter game and the final train level is phenomenal.

Golden Abyss needs a remake. Loved that game when it released on the Vita.
