Uncovering Amy Hennig's Uncharted 4

So much cool stuff uncovered...including mocap scenes.

Watching it now is making me even more sad that we haven't seen a proper uncharted game for a decade.

That said...i don't think this game would've been a better Uncharted 4.

No idea..

But I do know I would have gotten more Uncharted games were Amy Hennig still at Naughty Dog. And that's automatically a much, much, much preferable reality than the one I'm stuck in with Druckmann's Naughty Dog.

Nate is coming to grips with getting older. A guy at the dock gives him a little meth. At first he's just swallowing it for a little athletic edge during the day. But before long he's beating ladyboy prostitutes to bloody pulps, losing his teeth and grip on reality. He goes on adventures but never actually gets the treasure. Just ends up getting his friends hurt or worse. The new protagonist voiced by Glorilla tells him that is his natural destiny for all the horrible stuff he's done and indigenous pottery he's stolen. There's no real happy ending for him. Eventually the player takes control of Glorilla and Nate is an RE4 Ashley style sidekick/escort for the rest of the game. In the end of sacrifices himself and it's a decent gesture, but not nearly enough for all the pottery he stole. He leaves on a sullen and broken tone.

They made The Lost Legacy without Amy, so the reason they're stopping isn't a lack of talent—it's just that people are getting fatigued with the series.
 
I don't need another Uncharted game. But, I'd love the next Naughty Dog game in the same style with a new setting, new characters, etc.

Uncharted still has the worst 3rd person shooting ive ever seen in a video game. Makes up for it with it's verticality somewhat.

I think it would've been a better Uncharted 4. I couldn't stand what Uncharted 4 turned into and this is coming from someone who loved the original trilogy. It was an overlong, bloated mess of a game.
 
I think a mistake for Uncharted was when they began to make it too personal, which started a little in part 2 but definitely more around part 3. Once that happens, you're telling the beginning and end of a character's story rather than just treating him as an old school Lara Croft/James Bond type who has a new adventure every 5-10 years.

For some reason Sony made Ratchet and Clank the 'pop up every decade with a new adventure' character rather than Drake, even though one could argue Drake managed to become more iconic in a shorter time.
 
Finished the video. What a masterpiece, absolutely incredibile detective work and reporting. That footage was insane to see, the alternative teaser Trailer especially.

Conflicted about the game, but ultimately I just agree with the author.

I have to say, no Nadine, no Drake's daughter (easily translatable to no replacement), Elena present for the entire game alongside Nate.. these are huge ass plus for me.

Not at all what I meant.

Uncharted 4 was made with the intention of being Nate's final adventure. Which wasn't originally the case.

There's no version of reality where you can see Uncharted 4 sale numbers with fucking Chloe and Nadine as main characters, nor anyone else for that matter.
Some people might have been "fatigued", certainly not me. I would buy new Nate adventures as well made as the original trilogy till the end of time.

Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy are by far my favorite shooters on console. And favorite controlling third person games as well. Their multiplayer is still active after 10 years. So insanely fluid and responsive, there's nothing like it.

I think people have the wrong expectations about this old lady. She's already gotten pretty contaminated with all that woke stuff. She wrote Forspoken for Square, for example. Obviously Neil Druckmann is the overlord of woke shit, but besides that, she already seemed tired because Uncharted 3 wasn't that good. I still have no idea what to expect from her Captain America and Black Panther game.

* Neil salvaged Uncharted 4 and delivered an amazing game
* Intergalatic is a new IP. It should take way longer to make than the 4th entry in a already established series.
* ND wasted devs with TLOU Online for years. They didnt have the whole company making Intergalatic this whole time. And they still have a B team making a new Uncharted game.

Of course not. The damn Game Director isn't there anymore.. the one known for pushing back on Druckmann's ideas.

So yeah, Amy wasn't the one responsible for that woke fest. I refuse to believe the person who wrote Legacy of Kain would commit terrorism like that and so far, looks like I'm right.

Thanks, English isnt my first language.

And nah. Game sits at a 93 MC score, sold very well and gameplay was awesome. Saying it had handholding moments is something. Game didnt have the GOW Ragnarok moments of treating you like a retard. It was like any other Uncharted game.

Pacing isn't great for many playthroughs, too much downtime, but it was excellent anyways imo. Least replayable Uncharted gane, but still very good.

Dude, we are in 2026

Every AAA game takes more than 5 years to make. And we are talking about a new IP, which takes longer.

It is what it is, unfortunately. The days of a big studio releasing 4-5 AAA games at the same generation is long gone.

We might have some exceptions, but it isnt the norm anymore.

In all seriousness, 5 years is a nice goal to shoot for, but there will be always be games that take longer than that to make. Some games fall into development hell and takes years just to climb back out of the hole. Some games get rebooted midway through and so the first few years just become lost years. Then you have the indie scene where it could be one guy trying to make a game in his spare time and he slowly works on it over like 8 years before he finally finishes.
 
No wonder they said her version of Uncharted 4 sucked.

Uncharted 3 was the worst one, and she was solely in charge of it while Straley and Druckmann (who worked with her on 2) went off to make Last of Us.

It is reported they saw she was ruining 4 and so they came in and salvaged it, and while it isn't as tight and great as 2, it is way way better then 3.

I mean, this is so old, who cares anymore? Her track record of projects since leaving ND has got to jettison any trust or faith in her output.

Straley founded a new studio in 2021 and released a trailer for Coven of the Chicken Foot in December last year at the Game Awards. Wildflower Interactive is an indie studio, had just 16 employees in 2025 according to the Wiki. I'd say he's been busy. Dunno if the Chicken Foot is what people had been expecting though.

On a more serious note, I would legitimately be very interested to see what Druckmann would be able to accomplish on his own.. once removed from the helm of hundreds of the world's finest artists, hundreds of millions of dollars, ICE team tech, etc.

Imagine all the cringe bullshit in TLOU II, all the pathetic "You are my people", "oof", "rate our kiss from last night" of the game, Abby and Lev designs, except this time wrapped in Life is Strange aesthetic, presentation and production values..

That's the downside of not having endless Sony money anymore. On the other hand, it also forces creativity instead of just producing the next cinematic action adventure.
