Sony getting desperate af, as a sony games fan from mid 90s(psx obviously) who had ps4 since launchwindow(only managed to get it at msrp march 2014, demand was so crazy that retailers were doing nasty markups over msrp on their own here) and never bought ps5, i can feel sony is like that 40yo woman who just hit the wall and is noticing men stopped aproaching her and dont pay for her drinks anymore, she gets desperate enough to aproach men herself :messenger_beaming:

1.5 years before PS6 launch:

"upgrade now to PS5" LOL

You know why people didn't upgrade Sony? Because they were waiting for price drops and exclusives... they got just few exclusives and even bigger prices hahaha.
Not to mention that their exclusive titles have included divisive political agendas that alienate at least half of their audience. In contrast, on the PS4 and earlier consoles, they focused solely on creating games that would be enjoyed by all, rather than waging cultural wars.

I would risk a guess that most of them are probably brazilians. Definitivelly smells like desperation, GTA is gonna be their trump card.

Exactly why the CEO said they didn't have a PS6 launch window

"Please buy our PS5 stock first"

PS5 is touching the 100m units...and you say this? Apparently 100m and counting has upgraded to PS5, but that's not enough to you. Lol

Also I don't get what's the "desperation" you guys are talking about... its a simple targeted message for people who whishlited GTA6 and don't have PS5, you are embarrassing yourselves really

Well the console was just $399.

Yes, but in normal circumstances it would be 199$ or 250$/299$ by now, not 600$.

PS5 got more users than PS4 on PSN (for the first time) just... 11 months ago.

There are millions of people playing on PS4, looks like many PS4 users didn't upgrade.

Nintendo should send the exact message to its players.

They should. For the month of April, MS was sending Xbox One Users massive deals to upgrade to Series X, the digital edition being as low as $349. And Disc edition at $399.

Targeted savings for those already in the ecosystem is great idea to get them to upgrade.

Not sure how marketing is desperation. I swear we're now just looking for things to get triggered about. Oh my god I opened Steam and there's an ad for the Deck on the first page, fucking desperate Valve!!!11

Informing people that a game on their wishlist is not playable on their current console is.....pretty good? I'm sure there's some "normies" that might think they will be playing GTA6 on their PS4 in a few months.

Yup those folks that waited ..are still waiting and I have a feeling for a long time sadly.

I meant Nintendo should send this exact message in the OP:

How are the desperate? It's not like they're telling all PS4 users to upgrade, they're merely informing customers who have GTA6 wishlisted that it won't be available on PS4 and that they will need a PS5 if they want to play it.

Sadly we are not in a "normal" timeline, lets look at all competitors.... oh shit ..ALL of them raised those launch prices!! So the issue is "not" exclusive to Sony.

That's tell you everything you need to know about the power of Playstation (the brand) .. not a negative at all.

Also people ignoring that PS5 basically faced worst supply issue in console history in 2020 and was basically sold out for 2 YEARS! And yet managed to keep up with PS4 sales despite the higher average price of the console.

The double standards are crazy sometimes.

PS5's greatest enemy is PS4. Let's see how much GTA moves the needle.

Well... 90+ million did upgrade. This is one final push. Late buyers will always buy late anyway. Still need someone to be buying these things after they are 6 years old.

And PS6 will have to compete with PS5, the cycle continues.

Plenty of that 90+M are not PS4 owners if they still are close to 50% of PSN numbers. I think former Xbox one users are contributing here.

I never said this price problem is exclusive to Sony, this generation is not normal for all big players (and PC).

Agreed. Unless Steam Machines + Helix can somehow make a diff... nah... nevermind.

In a normal situation (supply, Price) PS5 would have been knocking PS2 160m units.

Late buyers are usually price sensitive. This is why you had people buying cheap PS2s and PS3s and even PS4s (down to $199 in a bundle quite often).

PS5 went up $150 since release. Well, DE went up $200! The surprise is going to be if sales don't continue dropping even more.

PS2 reached 150M after 11 years. Nowadays consoles are not selling like that after their "sequels" already launched (piracy and developing countries helped PS2 a lot).

Fair point. Can they resist GTA 6 though? If not at launch, perhaps once PS6 is out and the price drops then (hopefully).

I'm sure anyone who actively plays video games and hasn't bought a PS5 yet is sitting on the $900 requisite dollars required to buy one. I don't think they realized it was even out yet. This email is probably going to cause a stampede at Best Buy and Circuit City.

I mean some may cave but there is a reason a lot of folks didn't jump and didn't get PS5 so far, and that's due to $$ for the console and games.

Current generation completely broke the usual console model of the boxes getting cheaper and it used to be there were even "greatest hits" games new for $20-30.

I mean if you really wanted to play GTA6, a used XSX or a used PS5 with disk model would be best bet so you could resell game and console afterwards.

PS5 did 100m while being (sold out 2 years) and have higher average price.

Its safe to assume it would have done 120m or more in 6 years if you remove those obsticles

PS2 was like a $100 and there were plenty of games used and new for $20ish or less. It was truly a no brainer.

Hell, late PS4 was $200 and plenty of PS4 games could have been had for cheap by then.

PS5 is $650 (disk) and games are more expensive now even used.
