Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

Marathon Update 1.0.6.3
The one about Grenade stacks.

Item Economy

*Map Events *
- Lockdown on Dire Marsh, Intercept on Perimeter, and Convoy on Outpost can now drop Prestige Salvage as part of their loot rewards.

*Armory *
- Fixed an issue where Hurting Hands V4 could be claimed for free more than once.

*C.A.R.R.I Armory *
- Increased quantity of salvage dropped from Deluxe C.A.R.R.I. Salvage Crate across all rarities.
- Fixed an issue that caused C.A.R.R.I. weapons to not appear if that weapon was identical to a voucher offer the player currently possessed.
- Previously non-refreshing C.A.R.R.I. offers will now have their stocks reset weekly. As part of this change, the Superior Key Template's stock will only reset up to 1. This does not affect this item's starting stock of 5 or any remaining stock above the weekly reset limit.
Combat Equipment

*Grenades *
- Adjusted in-run stack sizes for the following grenades:
- Stack size reduced to 1
- EMP Grenade
- Chem Grenade
- Frag Grenade
- Heat Grenade
- Flechette Grenade
- Stack size reduced to 2
- Claymore
- Rooks and Sponsored Kits that would come with 3 Claymores will now only receive 2 instead.
- Stack size of 3 (no changes)
- Proximity Sensors
- Smoke Grenades
- Ammo Crates
- Decreased barter limits from 10 to 3 per day.

Weapons
*Stryder M1T *
- Prestige Precision Optic Mod now distinguishes between UESC and enemy Runners.

User Interface and Experience
- Fixed an issue where runner eliminations were incorrectly showing on the player HUD.
Contracts
- Tier 3 Contracts that have a chance at either Enhanced or Deluxe salvage now always display Enhanced salvage as the baseline reward.

Zones
*Cryo Archive *
- Added secure vents to prevent spawn rushing in Cargo and Index.
*Dire Marsh *
- Fixed an issue could prevent the final exfil from spawning.
*Ranked *
- Adjusted Holotag entry requirements: Gold Holotags can now enter High Stakes, and Platinum Holotags can now enter Low Stakes.
Platforms
*PS5 *
- Fixed an issue where players were unable to 'join crew' via a platform invite if crew privacy is set to 'invite only' in game.

Good start to the day. Me and my randoms killed a team camping south relay with a gold key on them. Thank you very much.

Got two of my friends hooked on this game. Another bought but he's not that into I don't think. One of them left work early just to come play with us. Two of us are really good and the other one just spends his whole time confused and constantly asking questions. Which is weird because in FPS games he's usually the top player but he just sucks here.

We were on outpost and spent way to much time in pinwheel and had to run to a exfil. Only one of us made it. Those damn things in the air slowed me down at the last second and I missed the exfil. I would have made it if it wasn't for that BS. We did drop another team trying to run for the same exfil so that was nice.

Another cracking review about Marathon:

I'm glad we're getting these types of reviews about Marathon. Players who recognise how awesome this game is.
I'm honestly absolutely fucking tired of the hate this game is getting and the obsession with it's player numbers.

The CCU threads on here are the weirdest shit. Game's probably gonna die but the obsession with numbers is mental haha.

I mean it makes big difference because some people already cant even get into solo queues...

I play Smite 2 on PS5 all the time. It has a 6k 24 hour peak. I get into games all the time in all the different modes Joust (6 players), Conquest (10 players) Arena (10 players). Not sure about the rest of the world but I never have issues getting into games. I'm not to worried about Marathon but even if it falls off I've gotten my $40 worth and more.

Don't think this dude has played it. Not worth bothering with him.

"You think"? Think harder ;) I even bought it on PS5 you hobbit

This game reminds me so much of MAG. Absolutely loved it but it died an inevitable death due to being too hard to get in to for the casuals.

MAG remains one of my top 5 FPS to this day. I think MAG could have gained traction as a more casual large-scale FPS on PC.

Casuals want the same game reskinned eternally where they can grind chores alone while half watching a video on a second screen. The mainstream games audience has long moved on from learning anything new.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case. All my friends moan about call of duty but play it endlessly year on year.

Battlefield's drift towards being a linear COD-like shooter from BF3 onward led to my early disillusionment with games. BF3 reduced the game's complexities to hucking grenades down hallways. Killzone suffered the same fate with Killzone 3 removing the inertia and weight of its movement to try and chase the new mainstream. I've been wondering if "casual" is the right word though. I run across 90+ players in Marathon who can't buy blue shields, perpetually run in free kits, and don't know basic mechanics of the game. I've always considered casual to be those with only limited time to play or for whom gaming isn't a priority. The modern audience is driven by people who refuse to make friends and reject any challenge outside of their existing knowledge, all while putting full-time job hours into games. The industry is happy to accommodate their preferences since they spend which has led to every publisher trying to create a stop for the migratory flock of players searching endlessly for "content". The change has been awful for people like me with very different habits and preferences.

OT: I love that Intercept received some love in the patch. Wild and loose runs across Perimeter make it my favorite event to do by far. Adding more loot to the table for Lockdowns is just the cherry on top. I don't know how well the grenade changes will work since geared teams can still fit enough grenades in their pack to make any encounter hell. I'll need some time to see how it plays out.

If this game dies Sony will go back at making AAA Singleplayer Narrative-focused Games(tm) or something.

PS: they never stopped making these kind of games

I got bored of those games last generation. People want something new but then complain when they do change it up. I don't believe they can win with "gamers" nowadays.

Exactly. People are under the notion that if Marathon didn't exist they would have Destiny 3 or some other such game to play. That's not necessarily the case.

We've had so many great single player games this year and there's many more to come. It turns out you can have your cake and eat it after all.

The derelict colony on Tau Ceti has such an eerie vibe: "Terraforming suddenly canceled". I really like the visuals and the codex entries.
Many of the rovers and materials shipped across the galaxy are still sealed in their protective plastic wraps.

Hopefully, the player will add Cryo Archives pictures. This map is the most unsettling.

I can understand it of course, hopefully season 2 will bring more players
I just don't see it if im being honest. The only thing that might happen is they get say half the launch numbers (40k) but with better retention. If they can keep whatever players that do turn up for season 2 somewhat decently then at least thats something to build on.

I don't think the game will be around much longer tbh.

40k? not happening. I will be surprised if it reaches anywhere near 20k with S2 launch

It was pulling 30k 4 weeks ago most of those people will return at least to check out the season. Depends on whether season 2 is a wet fart or brings some big meaningful changes. We'll see I guess.

Makes no sense to pull the plug unless they shutter Bungie. They just upped the team size. We have a couple of seasons before it goes on life support even if they don't turn things around I think.

UPDATE: WALKING THE PERIMETER AND UPPING THE GAME

We are making an update to the Experimental queue and shifting the Sponsored Marsh map to Sponsored Perimeter. Details below:

-As of 3PM PT Sponsored - Perimeter will become available.
-Sponsored Perimeter will require you to have a free (green/enhanced tier) sponsored kit equipped to queue.
-Sponsored Perimeter will only support crew matching, or pre-made crew queueing.

To commemorate this experiment we will also be upping the floor on sponsored kits. Green sponsored kits will now be free and grey tier sponsored kits will be retired until the end of season.

Thanks to everyone who has been participating in the Sponsored Dire Marsh experiment, we've learned a lot from your feedback and from observing you. As we roll out this new queue, we look forward to hearing from all of you who want to hop in and join us especially those of you at hauler who want to duke it out.

Sponsored kits should have been like this from day one. You're being sponsored by a big corporation and not even given a shield?

The new free kit is reaaally solid, comparatively with the previous ones, but contains fewer ammo.

Random containers seem more generous and the bots also seem more aggressive: on sponsored Perimeter, my team was getting hammered and I thought other runners were involved in the gunfight.

What a nice unexpected Tuesday morning surprise!

Sponsored Perimeter plays more like a normal round of perimeter. I think that the green free kit gives a better idea of how Marathon is meant to be played than a single gun + no meds. Perimeter is a vastly more interesting map than the long dead sight-lines of Dire Marsh.

I also learned that the reason I thought gearing was too easy in sponsored was due to my friend accidentally queuing us in normal DM/Perimeter. We assumed players with blue shields were just luckier than us. It wasn't until we faced a purple team on our sixth intercept that we realized our error.

Went back and played some rounds after a 2 week break. Felt good to be back and i love the perimeter sponsored queue. Also the green free kit change is really great. First time i did the blue event on this map lol
