Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

One time game bugged for me during server slam and I was playing in 3rd person for about 10 seconds after revive

Almost 1pmET and about 8k players. We are at the point now where the game spends numerous hours each day below 10k players. Destiny 2 may have higher daily peaks soon.

Plus Destiny 2 probably has more players on console each day than Marathon.

Dire Marsh Sponsored just vanished, and I can't seem to join a game on any other maps. Some weirdness with the servers right now…

I think the Rook (1 v 3) presents some pretty unique problems. 3PP could help it feel more like a scavenger, rather than a gimped solo runner.
What would the issues be? Seems pretty fine to me at the moment. Certainly feels like a scavenger, much like a scav from Tarkov. I think the issue comes from Bungie adding a tacked on solo cue that basically makes Rook useless but there were too many babies crying about solos.

It might have reached the event horizon stage. At the same point yesterday, Marathon managed to eke over 10K CCU. Today? Not happening.

1 pm completed hour.

Monday
1 pm 10.6k
Peak 16.6k
Peak was +6k or +57% from 1 pm

Yesterday
1 pm 10.2k
Peak 15.7k
Peak was +5.5k or +54% from 1 pm

Avg is +55.5% from 1 pm

Today
1 pm 9.4k
Peak estimate adding 55.5% from 1 pm = 14.6k. Right on target with my est last night it would be under 15k.

Other methodology using 1 pm data
Yesterday 10.2k, today 9.4k (-8%). Yesterday peak 15.7k less 8% = 14.4k.

So ballpark, today's peak should be roughly 14.5k.

I don't think they can save this game because PS fans hate it for what Sony did to Bluepoint, let alone the fact it sucks and looks like vomit. PC gamers are the only thing keeping it alive at this point. I wanted to save this for posterity's sake before PlayStation deletes it. The "2 Weeks to go" Marathon tweet from PlayStation the day they killed Bluepoint. I screen captured the responses.

This is probably the most important game to reject and kill in the history of games if you don't want PS to turn into pure GAASlop. Let's be honest, they kind of already did. Nasty.
Jeez that was a ride and boy was it annoying to see the level of arrogance in this company, shutting down Bluepoint and then hyping this.

We all know Fairgame, Horizon live service is flopping. This was the only game that could have been a hit.

Honestly, I felt like saying this even back when Marathon was released but shame on PC players. They're the reason why this game, that represents everything wrong with this company, is still alive today. It rightfully completely flopped on consoles.

We are just 6 pages from being 50 pages more than the OT thread.
LMAO retardera shut down their CCU thread 🤣

The desperation to protect this game is fucking insane.

Purple Place tying themselves into knots to shut down online discourse on publically available data.

And that thread was completely civil and constructive but criticial of the games CCU numbers.

Never change you purple haired, corporate boot lickers. Keep on gate keeping your members to play defense for the publishers. Surely, that is going to work...

Marathon is at its best when it feels like a game of chess and at its worst when it feels like ping pong balls of chance.

Rook currently feels a bit too "luck based" as in "sometimes you catch em with their pants down and sometimes you don't".

I think 3rd person could give the under powered character some much needed scouting ability that would offset its inferior combat abilities. It would also encourage more prox chat which most people tend to like

"Republicans buy video games too"
- Michael Jordan (probably)

It's fun watching Bungie self destructing in real time, they were one of the most notoriously super woke studios that hated their players

Why did they shut it down? Redbull knew his stuff too.

The cited reason was that the CCU created an us versue them mentality with the OT. So a bunch of the twinks in the OT kept on lodging complaints to staff about the CCU, more than likely..

Tinfoil hat time: The forum has lots of people in pubs and devs with sock puppets there. This is a known fact about the forum. So either the bungie or Sony ones told moderation to shut it down.

Bungie and the Press can't peddle the spin of " Only the chuds and CCU watching hurt this games" if Purple place was doing it as well. That would destroy that narative.

That shit has the potential backfire because the people banned will take to other forms of social media with reciepts about how Sony/Bungie is hiding how big a failure this game is.
Here to say, I hope it does!

This is the most logical explanation. Bungie asked the media to shut up, so it's easy to figure out they do the same with the most pro-establishment officialist gaming forum.

There is a legitamite and rather large interest in the performance of this game, and it is not always the grave dancing we like to do around here.

So the people over there that were discussing it in good faith are more than likely pissed and still going to discuss it.

I wonder if we get some of their CCU thread refugees here.

I hope they don't faint or cry when we use bad words around them.

Sure, they get to talk freely here but they run the risk of Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes evangelizing to them the miracles of the extraction shooter and the prophesized death of single player games. That's a devil's bargain.

A bunch of word salad BS.

Translation: We're butthurt people are talking about how much of a failure this game is.

They made a new thread, though. Let's see how long it lasts...
"CCU threads were never meant to become black holes that suck up all the discourse surrounding a game, but this one has largely done that."

Translation: "This CCU thread was having too much 'incorrect' discussion, so we need to suppress it before the inconvenient truth breaks the dam."

The thing about the CCU is that it is objective and data driven.
Whether that is positive or negative is not up to the forum posters. In Marathon's case, it has largely been negative with a few positive CCU bumps.

In other words, they are shutting down the CCU thread is an admission that the game has been trending mostly negative and the shills can't stand it. Had it been trending positive, they would crowing the F out of it and rofl at how they are owning the chuds or whatever.

What a bunch of babies. They couldnt take how bad it was doing getting all the attention.

But jokes on them since whomever made the new thread went all out with a ballbusting title. LOL. The old thread was simply called Marathon Steam CCU Thread.

Yep.

Our Marathon Enjoyers are definitely not bitch made like the ones over there.
Exactly, I've always tried to make it clear that nothing I say about this game is directed at those guys in a derogatory way, my beef is with bungie and this game in general.. They like it and that's cool, i just find the game jarring and bungie to be pretty shitty but yea those guys play and do their thing which is fine.

LOL, banning the "mild CCU" thread was definitely a low IQ play.
Dude that created the new thread with that title deserves a medal

Edit: I won't link the site so to not give them clicks, but here is the new thread title over in Barney land
"Marathon's daily CCU peak is now under 16k on Steam, out of the top 100 most played on Xbox in all regions, barely any better on PS. What went wrong?"

Yeah that thread title came out fucking swinging.

And it basically exposed the CCU numbers and the games generally awful sales performance to a whole new group of people who didn't want to wade throught 200 pages.

It was kind of like a seasonal wipe/reset for discussion.... some would say.

The people in our OT aren't our enemies. They are fellow compatriots with similar interests. I wish them power and AI hotties for all. Here we are simply stating facts and opinions without hate or bias or censorship.

When we see a WORTHY story that displays Marathon's CCU we discuss it here and then post it as its own topic and re-discuss it again. That way no one gets left out of the discussion(which I'm not sure is a problem but this way people who don't want to read the long ccu thread can still get taul passi type news as new topics).

What probably happened is all the Marathon OT gamers and Bungie too complained that CCU thread gets too much attention. It's no different than this one. Tons of pages of posts being a front page thread almost every minute. The key difference is their OT thread is in a different sub forum tab so it'll get ignored unless someone actually goes to that other forum tab. While on GAF both Marathon threads are in the same General forum.

That mod reason was stupid. I read more in the OT thread where many people were complaining and mod said something weird like every time there's big CCU news make another thread. So he wants CCU chat going forward to be spliced into multiple threads? How dumb. But you can see why. If you break it up into small chunks, it prevents a snowball thread that looks bad on the game.

But good on the new thread dude who made the new CCU thread with an eyepopping title. Mod didnt see that one coming. lol

Every time that thread would suddenly jump five pages and I would think there had been some major news but each time it was just someone from the OT going in there, getting their feelings hurt and insulting the people in the CCU thread. Insane the mods protected those people over the actually civil posters.

Edit: LMAO they made a new thread so all the thread banned people flooded back in to insult the people discussing CCU. How did they not see this coming?

Not quite the Streissand effect, but yeah...

It was better when the CCU discussion was established and all in one place. Now... it's airborne.

Things get so much worse now that the numbers will be discussed over and over again in new threads.

The site is obsessed with numbers but only when it can be used as a cudgel against things they don't like.

I love Bungie but the game is ugly as sin and no Destiny 3. It's not made for me or my friends. I don't think it's made for anyone on console.

That place also can't wrap their mind around the fact that critic opinions do not equal casual audience opinion.

"But but critics loved it"

No one cares what critics think besides number chasers. Which again, numbers only matter when it suits them.

"We are closing the CCU thread because it is the focus of the discussion of the game instead of the main topic. If you want to discuss it, just go to the main topic or create another topic."

Creates another topic:
"This topic was created in bad faith so it'll just be closed."

Discuss CCU on the main topic:
"User warned: the CCU is not part of the discussion, this is a topic for the game itself only."
