[Rumor] Steam Controller Price Leaked. $99

Everybody complaining about PS controllers, but forgetting the Switch 2 pro controller is $90. That thing is overpriced.

Dual Sense is overpriced, IMO, for what it delivers.

$100 though is quite a lot for a controller and I want to see some reviews for ergonomics and build quality first.

Nice can't wait to try this with my imaginary steam machine that still lacks a fucking launch date

I am curious, but I dont think its comfortable.
Probably not. It's a standard controller with the buttons reduced in size and everthing crammed up to the top to make way for two trackpads, which are almost useless in any games.

I mean, I never use them on the Steam Deck anyway, they are vastly inferior to normal thumbsticks.

It is. The dualsense is too. Paying anything over £40 and not getting hall effect or TMR stick at the very least is unacceptable in this day and age.

ALl first party controllers are 'overpriced'.

Though the battery life of the 2 Pro controller is so vastly better than the PS controllers that it's ridiculous.

None of them are perfect though, and you're gonna get a wide variety of opinions on each of them. No need to shit on one particular one, when they each have their own pros and cons.

Either way, this is a PC controller. Make more sense to match it up with what's competing in it's space, which is a ton of stuff, from cheapo high end, to mid tier stuff, to top end novelty stuff. Though I guess you can use the Xbox and PS controllers on PC as well, but you know.

Even though I thumbed up your post, I will say that there still are $20+ dollar game pads out there... These are Canadian prices. There are some passable game pads by 8bitdo and gamesir.. official Dual Sense, the current Xbox controller, and the Switch II Pro Controller cost anywhere between $85-$110 CND. Or closer to $65 - $90 USD. But then again the Steam Controller is US price. So I expect it to be more like $129.99CND.

Jesus Christ, they still sell F310's lol. Also I have all the controllers except 1 of them on the bottom row.

Gamesir Nova 2 Lite is great, comes with a case, no backpaddles or anything fancy, wireless sometimes gives issues, but bluetooth is great.

F310 is almost 30 years old, one of the OGs. The wire on mine gave out years ago, sticks, buttons and dpads still all doing well.

NBCP. I don't have this exact model, but the mold has been around. One of the shittiest controllers I've ever owned. Right stick died like two months after use.

And of course, good ol' knock Xbox controllers. No idea which specific mold this one is, but there's quite a bit of them.

Massively overpriced for a 8GB VRAM console. Controllers should be 50 dollars max. Don't expect controllers to be 20 dollars like the good old days but 100 dollars is way too much.

Can't get here soon enough. I've needed to replace my dualsense and am not buying another one.

It's a bit pricier than I'd hoped but I've always liked Valve's build quality so I can deal with it.

The F310 is not a 30 year old controller. More like 16 years old now. The F310, F510 and F710 controllers were introduced in 2010, and were the replacements for the older Logitech Dual Action gamepad.

The Logitech "F-series" gamepads were refreshed from the previous Dual Action model by incorporating Microsoft Xbox XINPUT compatibility mode as a toggle switch between the older DirectInput controller API. The face buttons were altered to have the same colour scheme and letter assignment as the Xbox 360 pad. The L2 and R2 buttons from the Dual Action were replaced with L2 and R2 analogue triggers.

The F510 and F710 also added rumble support. The F510 has been long since discontinued, as it is a wired USB pad like the F310, but with rumble. The F710 is still being sold and is the wireless model that does not use Bluetooth. It uses a proprietary 2.4GHz USB dongle. This pad also became notorious for the recent Deep sea vessel incident that was sponsored by James Cameron.

The F310 is just a long withstanding base model controller without rumble at all. It still works for the majority of games. But feel dated and lacks some of the addition buttons found in newer gamepads.

I feel like the F310 and F710 are due for a new refresh. They could honestly ditch the two models and go for a pad that supports the 2.4GHz dongle, as well as Bluetooth and could use a micro USB C cable. They could also update the features a bit with gyro and additional back buttons.

That's kinda the point, everyone agrees the SW2 Pro controller is overpriced and the only thing this adds is track pads whose BoM is more than offset by the extra $10.

Does the Switch 2 have the HAL/TRM whatever so you don't have to throw the controller in the garbage after two years?

Don't think so, but they certainly don't cost volume manufacturers anywhere near $20 or $30 in BoM. The SW2 Pro should be $69.99 tops and even at that a lot if people would still say it's expensive.

I still have my original Steam controller that I use when I stream my PC to my TV. Still works fine.

I was wrong by the way. Apparently they intend to sell the Steam Machine without the controller. But offer an optional bundle with it.

Eh, day one for 60, but after watching a few reviews, good luck selling it at Apex 5 clearance price.

Cheap plastic and very basic triggers are a huge oversights where even pads like 8bitdo Ultimate 2 offers you trigger stoppers and back buttons with way better materials.

This might sound like a dumb question but I'm sometimes dumb.

Am I understanding this correctly; with the Steam Controller, wired is plugged into the controller itself, Puck is with the puck plugged in and used as the connection to the PC and Bluetooth is without the puck?

I think so.

Ah right, half that. It seems much longer than that to me.

F310, Sidewinder, Gravis and a PS2 controller with a USB converter seemed the only decent controllers for PC around at the time. But I must be remembering that wrong because the 360 controller was pretty much the standard for PC not too long after it came out, so now I'm wondering when I even bought that thing. I'm too lazy to dig it up now and check the date.

Although lol, I think I don't even have the F310, I don't think my Logitech pad actually has 360 bean buttons, I think it's just the standard 1234 buttons of yesteryear. Jesus...why did I keep remembering it as the F310, guess it's because they look so similar...man I'm getting old....

But anyway, I don't think Logitech cares much about updating them. It was a super cheap and good controller when it came out back in the day and they haven't seen to update it even with all the controller upgrades that have come around. A number of cheapo Chinese controllers are just flat out better than it, it's why it's so weird to me that it's still around. Good sticks, buttons, and it feels sturdy and not cheap at least, more than I can say for most of the Chinese controllers.
