South Korean PM Calls Crimson Desert Turning Point for K-Gaming

South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok has taken to social media to congratulate Pearl Abyss on the success of Crimson Desert. The game recently surpassed 5 million sales, making it the fastest console game in Korean history to reach that milestone.

On April 15, Pearl Abyss announced that Crimson Desert had achieved the milestone in under a month. In just 26 days, the open-world adventure game set a record for all games ever developed in Korea. The game currently has over 91,000 concurrent players at the time of this writing and maintains a steady stream of players, despite reaching its peak of over 276,000 players on launch day.

South Korean Prime Minister Praises Crimson Desert After 5M Sales Milestone

In celebration of this milestone, Pearl Abyss was congratulated by South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok. In a tweet written on April 24, the Prime Minister called the Milestone a crucial Turning Point that demonstrates the domestic game industry in Korea can expand across more platforms. It's also stated that the government takes responsibility and provides support to ensure the industry's future success as a pillar of Korean content.

Korean devs have always had talent, but historically they've just never been allowed to make anything but online games with overly aggressive monetization.
