Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

When are we going to see a below 5K low?

Typically, mid-season patches result in a spike in players. The question becomes will it *retain* that spike.

Steps in the right direction here, but I wonder if it's too little, too late. We shall see.

Worth noting that Helldivers 2 came precariously close to dying itself before the developers turned it around with the 60 day patch(I think) and stopped arbitrarily nerfing weaponry.

Well, one thing I can commend Bungie here. They are at least trying to make changes fast, if only they were like this when Destiny was at its peak... Crazy how they dropped the ball multiple times on what was a sure win in gaming.

Wasn't the problem with Destiny was the engine (that caused them to use that Vault or whatever it is called to remove addons) and them trying to monetize everything?

I get that people are fed up with high budget GAAS failures, but the "hovering over the terminal patient's hospital bed waiting for them to die" energy in this thread is....peculiar, to put it mildly.

Their Tiger Engine is an abomination for what Destiny was trying to be. That engine was never made with an "MMO"-like experience in mind. They did a huge revamping of their tools back from Destiny 1 to 2, but even then the engine wasn't fast enough or stable enough for how much content they had to make.

The Marathon engine is still the same Tiger Engine, but a whole new iteration of it. I'm just curious about how much they can add stuff until things start to break like in Destiny. But not that I think Marathon will survive long enough to see that happen.

Here's a cookie for using the thesaurus to find a synonym for 'weird' 🍪. Marathon needs more high IQ people like you for it to survive.

The problem was the engine. Then they made a 'whole new game' so the engine wouldn't be a problem. Except they kinda didn't. And Activision was really the problem. Then they got away from ATVI... and I guess being a poor Indie dev must have been the problem... ya know, since they sold out to Sony...

Anyway clearly nothing about Marathon is Bungie's fault. It's probably Sony's fault.

Ill never get over how dogshit the art style for this game is ... absolutely awful

The best is when the official narrative claims the "Well the Art is divisive" which is PRspeak code that, yeah many, many people hate it.

I love wordsmithing PRspeak and putting lipstick on a pig. They used the same terminology for Concord character design being "divisive".

When journos or anyone official uses the word "divisive" that's usually an admission of it's no beuno.

Dead cat bounce yesterday maybe? Seems down today. Seems about half the people who came back Tuesday didn't come back today. Some will probably show up on the weekend to try. The fixes aren't enough. Increase solo resources fix is the best thing they did. The onboarding fix is in the right direction but also not much. The C.A.R.R.I. system is nice. Anything that helps squads(premade 3s) isn't gonna broaden the appeal so there isn't much but it does seem that they were able to do more around the edges than I expected for the first patch. That said, I'm not sure it is moving the needle.

2 pm completed hour today 17.3k.

Yesterday was a weird day as that was big patch day where it started high, but tailed off by end of day, but at 2 pm it was 20.5k and ended 26.6k.

A similar day was actually last Weds 2 pm at the same exact 17.3k. It ended at 25.4k. So possible it ends today around the same number.

It's going to be a pleasure watching this entire thread get the heavy machinery out and attempt to move the goalposts as Season 7 launches.

Hey bro honest question.. seen your posts in the OT you don't look to fond of the game, but you obviously like the genre, why are you not championing and promoting another game with better chances instead of trying to salvage this turd that at maximum will survive as a super niche product with a restricted cult following ?

No, I definitely like the game. It's likely going to be my GotY.

That said, it really feels Early Access to me. Its got a number of issues that, if fixed, will likely improve the player base pretty dramatically.

If that`s all you have to say after putting these simplistic 1 dime a dozen shooters in the same category as a Half-Life , TF2 or Metro then I guess I can rest my case.....
A month late, but maybe you can try this game:

It's still very its own thing than anything else, but if you want a FPS that feels like more an adventure, I think Northern Journey is one of the most unique of its kind.

Yo whats that third pic 👀

I trying to laugh, but also trying to understand whats happen there. Is really hard to understand what is going on with this art direction. This baffles me.
Haha, jfc that game looks so unbelievablely bad.. Like I could probably look past the extraction if I'm being honest, the ugliness of this game is beyond words

I cringe at the notion that Bungie saw other extraction shooters and thought: 'We can do that too!' and this is their end product

Bungie is literally just hitting 'Copy' on a genre they didn't even help build

Bassicly this:

Just watching that dudes face after he dies says litrelly everything about this game, I can feel his annoyance and frustration... I said it before I get it people have different tastes which is fine but man, I am baffled how anyone literally enjoys this on a steady regular basis.
