Jeff Grubb: ‘Fable’ release date has been ’pushed’ internally possibly to next year

No shit. Gotta take time to fix this

Crimson Desert and GTA6 are gonna make a lot of games look pathetic at full price. Games that can't keep up may have to do a $50 price point. I know my standards have raised for what I'm willing to spend $70 on day 1.

We have seen plenty footage of the game, u remember even 1 masculine muscular rightous male showed in all that materials? Either soyboys(or actual gays, like that guy walking, that went viral :P ) , women, or scummy males.
Not even 1 male /anyone that majority of customerbase (males) can identify with, maybe just weird coincidence but given game is made by western studio, pretty doubtful

Yeah, and that's a good example of what I meant when I said everything gets reduced to a simple dimension. No attention to gameplay, combat, leveling, environment, story, themes, dialog, exploration. Everything gets reduced down to a focus on the physique of a character and how they walk. Where is the actual discussion about the game in any of that?

Look, I get why people are concerned about woke. I don't like it much myself, especially when it dominates a game (e.g., Vielguard). It just feels like some people want to burn witches at the stake without even hearing the "witch" out first. I'm also seeing its stultifying effect on game discussion.

Like mentioned before, i wish the game the best, and that it sells well.

:messenger_winking_tongue: I think you'd love to see the game crash and burn.

Absolutely my point of view. Thank you

I thought that with an "Autumn" release date, they could still beat GTA to market, assuming "Autumn" meant September not October-November. Releasing in Sept would give people 2 months to play the game before GTA came out. But it looks like they weren't aiming for September but for something closer to GTA. Makes sense to give GTA a wide berth. Hopefully the delay will give them additional time for bug-squashing, etc.

I mean if you haven't released a big game by this time of the year might as well push it back with gta 6 coming out in the fall.

This brings back memories of Duke Nukem 3D. Basically after the game sold like hot cakes, the devs sit on their hands making the sequel. And it took so long that their product was made obsolete by competitors and they had to scrap and redo the game over and over, until what was left was salvaged by other people and release as-is.

This happens all the time, it's just that it is more obvious with the extended dev time. Sometimes your game is just no longer as good as people's expectations. At that point you either scrap it all or redo from scratch.

Remember a meme going before this debacle:

Gamers: Dont Bring Politics Into Gaming

Media: Everything Is Political

Expected. Looks clunky as fuck and the male character was 100% last minute addition to presentation, just like character creation. Totally not really implemented in the game, they probably backstep the stupid ugly troll (not the monster, but the female protagonist) when they saw people pushing back that shit.

Bro, if game gonna be 2nd veilguard or even avowed/outerworlds 2 its gonna bomb, no 2 ways about it, me not wanting it to fall in sales means i want it to be based/directed at male audience and not catered to "modern audience" aka women, who dont buy games full price at launch anyways.
TLDR i want it to be more like crimson desert(appeal to ppl who buy games) instead of marathon(appeal to reviewers/bluesky pdf crowd that doesnt buy games), simple as that :messenger_smiling_hearts:

The graphics and high presentation values will wreck this game.

Gamers want to do fun / goofy **** in Fable and everything taking 6 months to model and implement will be it's undoing. It'll have a limited sandbox because they wanted it to look better than Assassin Creed Shadows.
They had 8 years, enough time to have graphic and content unless they are inept...

Crimson was mad in 7 years and rdr2 in 8 years.

Remember, this was 1st shown before the actual XSX release on Nov. 2020...
I opened the thread and this was the first thing I thought of: goddamn, when is this releasing at this point?

Perfect Dark gets the ax and this is still standing? Someone responsible for this project is either related or is having intercourse with someone very powerful at Microsoft for this project to still be around.

We have to keep in mind GTA 6 has been in development for 10+ years, knowing that those costs are a drop in the bucket and will be recouped and paid back 1000 times over. Most devs/publishers do not have that luxury.

The issue is that nobody gives a shit.

We saw this when developers whined about how they can't make a game as good as BG3 because they don't have the time or budget and it's not fair to compare their game to that one.

And I don't necessarily think this even applies here, this game has been in development for almost a decade too, they built a whole new team, it probably cost $400-$500 million at this point, you can't deny that this is the game they wanted to make.

Of course, on the consumer level we don't care, if your game sucks, it will die before it even gets out the door nowadays or disappear forever after 2 weeks in some cases. Just saying how massive Rockstar is that they have this kind of luxury, and they could delay again and it would still never matter.

Mid September then, as I originally expected.
Would be a nice month. But then I wonder when they plan to drop Gears E-Day and Halo, since CoD will have the October or November slot I'm sure. It should be present during the June show, so we'll get clarity there.

I could see them delaying this for launch of the next console but is that the right move? I dont think so, still hoping for launch this year.

I'm going to be blunt mate : at this point, aside from the most hardcore zealots, I don't think anyone would even bat an eye if this ended up getting canceled.
It's just another game that was never realistically going to live up to the hype anyway, given the development hell it's been stuck in for years.

IF it will ever be released, It's going to tank/get dragged harder than Starfield IMO

Fable never was as big as Bethesda RPG hype-wise, plus PG always striker me as an odd choice for the narrative RPG. At least Guerilla had the technology and some narrative experience with Killzone before changing genres.

I think Fable will be perfectly okay game that will simply be ousted from the spotlight by Wolverine, GTA and even MS own Horizon 6. Even now the main reaction to Fable news from my friends is like 'OH FABLE IS A THING, RIGHT'.

I wish the reason was for removing all the woke shit.
Sadly, I know that's not the case

Helix has taken over my Xbox interest.
Fable is the last of the games shown at the start of the Gen., that hasn't been released. When it does, Xbox will be out of 'launch' games and into the next generation.

The only thing this Fable interest me is the potential clown show.

The time, the money, the poor art direction, the politics, basically another Concord clusterfuck but on MS side.

This makes me sad, because you are probably right but I want it to be good :(

Fan of the franchise over here.

Same here. I do worry about this game simply because I've heard Jez say it's been very expensive to make and I just don't know if this series can pull in the kind of sales needed to justify that.

Fable had 3 games. First one was one of the most brutal disappointments in video game history even though in a vacuum it was decent. Fable 2 was greatly expanded on the first and potentially the game we all hoped the first would be but then they made it braindead easy and simplistic. Still had loads of potential. Fable 3 was just a piece of shit that killed th franchise.

I do think resurrecting Fable was a good idea but I do not think this game will land, people are tired of the sarcasm/marvel quipping and this game's writing is built on that. It even has fucking Office cutaways.

I'm all in for Fable revival in the style of early Burton and Bullfrog/Lionhead, only with actual fulfilled promises.

I just don't feel sccess behind the PG's vision, to be honest.

That's my recollection of the first too. I was so hyped from all the pre-release claims and previews. the actual game was alright but not great, and I didn't even finish it before getting bored.

I wasn't shocked to see them announce Fables return. Makes sense to use IPs that have some nostalgia value. Weird as hell to see those first trailers though. Common sense tells me any game relying on nostalgia should probably try appealing to the people who actually remember it, which that trailer did not imo.

Anyway, I do think this will launch but I can't see them launching too close to GTA. Just sounds stupid to do that imo. Like trying to debut a new action orientated tv series at 7 pm on superbowl Sunday. Even the best show in history would be forgotten in that time slot.
