Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

How is that possible to have such cheat possible so soon? Why the guys are not immediately banned?

I don't remember it been possible to cheat in say Warcraft PVP. Well I have experienced once a cheater with a god mode who one shooted countless people (including me), but the guy quickly was found and banned.

I'm guessing that there might be shared code between Destiny and Marathon (I presume they're on the same engine), which gives people a head start on things.

The modern development of stuff like this is very mature now, so people know what to look for. All the libraries for hooking in are written (drawing the skeleton and bounding boxes), so it's more a case of figuring out the API for getting that to speak to the game. The off the shelf anti-cheat systems have been circumvented already so they're not really a challenge to beat either.

The distribution pipeline is well figured out as well, and a paying audience is there, so that's a further motivator to spend time doing this.

Who could have seen this coming? Anyone who played Div DZ perhaps. Honestly its like Bungie just imagined this game in their head, didn't put any kind of thought into how it would actually play, didn't take any lessons from any other extraction shooters and made possibly the worst retail extraction game currently on the market

I would definitely be put off solo queue as well if that shit happened to me.
This game will continue to bleed players and there probably isn't anything Bungie can do.

I guess the dude can report those guys, but that would be 5 less players in the CCU :)

If this is true and the poster isn't just imagining things or lying I don't understand how they could coordinate joining the same game, you can only invite up to 2 other players to make a crew of 3, unless the matchmaking really is as easy to manipulate as just having 2 crews queue at the same time. If so then they really need to start working on that player reporting system. Fill crews were already stupid to begin with but this just makes it worse.

If you run into a group in DZ, they will kill you just for the laugh. Solo players it's 50-50 in my experience, but I mostly play PvE/co-op.

Marathon is kind of a joke compared to Div2. Division 2 has so much content in different modes. They make it really easy for casual players too. If you are having trouble, you can call in back up and another player will come in and save you and help you finish the mission. $250 million for one mode is wild.

I am assuming that most of these cheats are on PC, so you would think that playing on a console would be the way to go, but the player base on PS and Xbox is so small it creates problems of its own.

This game is in a death spiral.

I was a pretty major PvP player in the Dark Zone and was often in a group. Typically, we would attack because we wanted to encourage a server fight.

Some do it to troll solo players, but often if we noticed someone was strictly just farming or a quick check of their build was decidedly not PvP oriented, we wouldn't bother flagging up on a lone guy.

But if it was another group, fair game.

You could *easily* avoid getting engaged in PvP if you wanted via two ways:

First--run a build that utilizes 100% Pulse Resistance and run around and do a landmark or two, have Pulse yourself as one of your skills, and open DZ boxes via keys.

Second--go to an Invaded Dark Zone. If you spawn in and everyone is at the entrance fighting, typically its spectators and two people doing 1v1s.

Pick a different checkpoint and go farm. In those 1v1 servers, no one will ever come bother you. All swapping out doing 1v1s or 4v4s.

This is bat shit nuts, just wow... Like I said that game can fuck right off lmao like after reading shit like that it proves bungie is gone man, just fucking shut them down
Cryo is pretty easy to exfil from once you learn the map. Just rotate sideways to new areas until you reach L3 clearance. If you avoid Control then you might never see another team.

I find Cryo much easier than Dire Marsh because Dire Marsh is full of purple shield snipers who will take you out randomly, especially if they see someone trying to exfil.

You're pretty much the only person I've seen anywhere say it's easy to exfil man, not even exaggerating

Yep I didn't know what I was doing and I'd get pulsed and my shit taken.🥲 I'm still learning. I only just found out you can put mods in your gear a few days ago.😅

Trying to prevent false positives and legal action by being way too thorough and mysterious.

The process needs clarity speed and simplicity but it won't get it.

10 pm completed hour CCU. Today's peak reached just after 11 pm as it's leveled off
All time peak was launch day 88.3k. Peak today at 27.4k is -60.9k or -69%

Today vs yesterday: 27.4k vs 28.5k (-1.1k or -4%)

Yesterday's low 10.4k. If the rate holds, low tonight will be 10k

Sat vs Sat: 27.4k vs 33.8k (-6.4k or -19%)

Today's Friday peak is similar to this past Tuesday which was 27.7k. Marathon has always gone down on Sat vs Fri each time. Almost every other top game skimmed on Steamdb goes up on a Saturday.

Alternate method to estimate peaks and valleys (ballpark ratios)
On normal weekdays, 3:1. For example, a peak 30k will have a low of 10k. For Fri/Sat, gamers stay up playing so the ratio is 2.5:1

Steam Rankings
Daily Active Users 87
Global Top Sellers 52
Weekly Top Sellers 41 ending Apr 7 (was 32 last week)
Top Rated Games 5,568 (84.54%)

That's what I'm seeing. You'd expect with most people being off work on Sundays that Saturday would be the bump and it's true for all but Marathon on this tracker.

For me, I just started from the top.... CS2, DOTA, PUBG, Slay Spire 2, Crimson D, Apex, ARC, RS Siege, Rust. All higher Saturdays. Only game that doesnt is Marvel Rivals.

It's still being played more on a Saturday, but it's not as concentrated in the US peak time. Americans being able to play earlier in the day is pushing up the Euro peak. Euros are not 'more able' to contribute to the (Saturday) US peak than they were the day before (ie. they can stay up late both of those days).

Americans being able to play earlier in the day seems to make them less inclined to play later, possibly suggesting it is a game that some only want to play in small doses, rather than to play as much as possible.

I don't care about this game, but why do people enjoy ruining games by cheating like this? Are people really that pathetic?
There are two types of cheaters. First, the obvious ones who don't even try to hide it. They derive pleasure from taking away others' enjoyment and provoking frustration (like console warriors). It gives them a sense of power and control, something i imagine those people are lacking in real life.

Then there are the ambitious ones, who are so good at lying to themselves that they are genuinely proud of their cheated victories. This group tries as hard as possible to hide their cheating and would always deny it.

In summary: Yes, cheaters are pathetic.

It's a weird thing because it seems just about every top played game on Steam charts clearly has a higher Saturday peak than Friday, whereas Marathon's Saturday is always lower than a Friday. And this was even before cryo launched.

But I agree. It seems Marathon's game time is decreasing as per CCUs, but the smaller doses makes sense too. Cryo day is always a pop, but then it craters down over the next bunch of days (even weekends). In fact, hourly trending shows it really pops at 1 pm launch, but usually loses much of the gains by end of day. So it shows Cryo doesnt even sustain gamers more than 1 day. Ziegler mentioned way back the purpose was to have gamers plays normal during weekdays and then play Cryo like a weekend event. Giving off a weekly grind vibe players play all week to grind up and play a lot on cryo days to risk their gear. Doesn't really seem that way. Aside from a cryo pop day, rest of days usually tank. Hence the consistent -20% week over week trend.

Cryo does give the game a temporary Thurs or Fri bump, but loses it all back. So it shows what probably happens is cryo gamers hop on those first days and play a couple hours here or there then bail fast so the weekly downtrend continues by the time the weekend/Monday rolls around.

The weekly grind seems irrelevant. Reading up what people say it doesnt seem hard for good gamers to rack up gear value to do cryo. So that big weekly grind isnt even needed. Often times the day before cryo is a big down day too. So what probably happens is a lot of those cryo gamers are already stacked up and dont even bother playing. They'll just wait for cryo the next day.

It seems Cryo isn't really bringing in much, which is why the pop is always smaller.

From what I've seen, it's resulted in what I said a while back; only the die hard fans, the sweats, and cheaters remain.

No one wants to continue to play that or come into that at $40 dollars. It ends up being a death spiral.

FFXIV had that problem in the beginning(before other things got added) where you could cap your weekly currency and possibly win your raid item drop in one day. No log until next week.

If you managed to get all your gear for the current major update, wait til next content update.

Marathon has no population to sustain that.

Dude... I can't even

Yeah I was taking a few days on few days off with the game the last couple weeks but I think it's just gonna be off until they shut it down or reboot... Game like this I cannot handle losing shit to cheaters.

The game was incredible (imo™)when everyone was still figuring it all out and the userbase was large enough for mostly even encounters but it's lost it atp

Now if only Crimson Desert wasn't $70...

Yes, yes they are. I watched that whole YouTube video and 100% agree with him on the idea that multiplayer games are dying when it comes to cheating. Studios have to spend so much time (some much more than others) dealing with this cat and mouse game.

Hell, even fucking best buy is selling cronus zen now. It really is pathetic reading the reviews. Massive aim assist, perfect shots in nba2k, it's awful and will only get worse over time.

More sympathetic forums and even the subreddit cult are now shook by the cheating and how the game is a rich get richer/fuck everyone else scenario with the end game content. Seems like Cryo isn't the savior but a rough filter to seperate the normal player base and the tryhards and cheaters.

Next week's CCU stats will be telling.

How does it work ? Cryos gives better loot ? And only a few can do it right ? So this few with better loot can during no-cryo days use this loot to have an advantage ?

I mean its a weekend but what happens here to Bungie?

Do they say actually this is the game you Greenlit us to finish, so we ain't changing it. I would really love to see what the discussions are like.
