Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Can't wait for Gears Eday, should be one of Best graphics this gen

DLAA renders game at native res and upscales it to even higher res and then lower it back down again to native res. Again increasing VRAM needed.
CD settings have some baked in auto settings that scale back and forth some things in engine depending on load it seems.

That's not what DLAA does.

Hopefully they blow us away with Gears but I'm not holding my breath, they need to get it to run at 60fps even on a trash ass Series S. I hope no Switch 2 version, fuck that device with its weak CPU & storage speeds. I want a full-on next-gen experience with Gears.

Hopefully we get Path Tracing on PC & even DLSS 5 support so we get much better materials & lighting, also Marcus gets the same fidelity as the reveal trailer or even much better. Could be a great showcase for DLSS 5 & also bodes well for Project Helix since Microsoft promised that it can do advanced Neural Rendering tasks & Path Tracing.

I am close to 99.9 % that this one will be generation defining moment on terms graphics

Ue5 + small levels, if they are capable they should ALMOST reach crazy bitch 2 level but gears 5 didn't impressed me at all so i don't share your confidence.

It' just my opinion.

DLSS5.0 is another big disappointment.

It looks like that narcisitics and shallow girl that looks beautifil from the outside. But the more you look at her, the more you see she's fraud as a human being.

Anyway

DLSS 5, sure, but DLSS 4 is incredible and virtually flawless upscaling.

The current DLSS issues in CD relate to issues with the game, not DLSS.

A truly sincere question:

Regarding the game, what real problem with the game today needs to be fixed that they haven't fixed?

There is a problem with displacement maps that causes flickering and blurriness of textures when using Ray Reconstruction

Guys please let's stay civil.

Gonzito you don't need to call them incompetent, they do what they can and if you don't like it, pause the game for a bit and come back when everything is fixed.

Playboi: don't be an ass
they are clearly not incompetent seeing as how they have created quite possibly the best looking open world game of this generation.

However, DLSS came out 8 years ago and its implementation isnt rocket science. For them to fuck this up that bad is a really bad look on the engineering team. The pop-in is also egregious and simply should not happen. especially when vram usage maxes out at like 5 GB.

i understand some of the ray tracing decisions were made by a bunch of idiots at the top of the executive team who overruled their inarguably talented engineering and art teams, but the dlss implementation being literally the worst in 8 years is simply inexcusable. Even from a top tier team like this who are clearly talented.

They are one of several studios that have taken 7+ years to make a game this gen. They better be at least as ambitious as Crimson Desert if not GTA6. That's literally the only reason why I am excusing Witcher 4's insane 7+ year dev cycle because they in their own words are trying to make the best open world RPG of all time. If Coalition has taken 7 years to make this, I dont want just fancy graphics, I want a complete redesign of the third person shooter genre. New mechanics, new ideas, way more ambitious in terms of scale, and AI.

Same goes for Naughty Dog and Cory's game. If you're going to take this long to make something, it cant be a simple DLC sequel like Death Stranding 2, Spiderman 2 and Ghost of Yotei, take all the time in the world but once you do, you need to show where this time went. Crimson Desert feels like a game made in 7 years so if thats what it takes, fine. But anything less would be a huge disappointment.

Yes those games which take 7+ years should be generation defining games

7+ years isn't insane, there isn't a cap on dev time and shouldn't be. The biggest, most ambitious and milestone titles come from huge budgets, talent, long dev time and ambition, look at RDR2, TLOU 2 etc.

I understand your concern, though I think it is more than just pure time thing.

For what it's worth, here are some quotes from The Coalition development team that was published right after they announced Gears E-Day in June 2024:

"However, all this is told through a modern lens, and rooted in groundbreaking technology, giving The Coalition room to really build out those elements. It's a careful balance – a classic Gears of War game that feels authentic next to the original, but with truly next-gen tech behind it.

"It's going to feel like a new Gears game, because that's what it is," Searcy says. "It's us revisiting the tone and the feeling of what makes Gears great, but we're tapping into new techniques, new processes, and new technology that's going to make the gameplay feel better than ever. It's going to be awesome, a game that feels both truly new, and authentically Gears."

Also here are a few from the "From The Ground Up" section of the Xbox Wire Blogpost discussing "Next-gen gore & destruction."

From The Ground Up

"With the advancements in Unreal Engine 5, the leap in technical capabilities is tremendous," explains Kate Rayner, Studio Technical Director at The Coalition. "This includes over 100 times more environment and character details than Gears 5, hardware raytraced lighting, reflections and shadows, next generation destruction and gore, and cutting-edge animation technology, to name just a few of the countless improvements that will make Gears of War: E-Day an unrivalled visual experience"

Oh so they're really pushing for high end visuals. this is exciting. cant wait

It is ansolutely wild how a different time of day can make this game look so fucking ugly...

Probably the first game where i realize how important lighting is, even more than pathtraced re9, the game at a certain time of the day is UGLY.

I think they upgraded snow in one of the patches, before that deformation was barely there.
Snow look and deformation are a bit meh tbh, this is one aspect where decima\ubisoft win imho.

More Crimson Desert in 4K DLDSR Ultrawide, max settings, Ray Reconstruction and Reshade:

The amount of details in close up scenes is insane:

Are you using rr+dlaa in 4k? Or you just picked the only point of the map with good, detailed, not mushy ground texture and fake tesselation?

Like that zone in horizon with good rocks that can't be seen in any other part of the map?

Because i tried every possible combination other than that one and the rocks on the ground never look remotely as good, hell we had a ground comparison a page ago and even the version without the bug doesn't look nearly as good as your pic...

Where did i already heard the "from ground up" part?

Oh yeah, from most sony studios that made crossgen looking games since the gen started...all made from the ground up on ps5...

You people better not believe all the big words you read online.

Yes true. At this point I'm not holding my breath about it. It's why I said FWIW in my reply to Slimy.

Im using DLDSR (2,25x, thats 5160*2160P) and DLSS Balanced Mode (4.0) with RR.
Never waste on DLAA, always use DLDSR, thats much better!

I'm gonna try that method tonight when i get home but you really hit the jackpot with those ground rocks, later i'm gonna post some of my rocks for comparison.

(And when i say rocks i'm not talking about my testicles, we don't want gonzi to get excited for nothing)

nah, 7+ years is an entire generation plus some. no game should take that long. we have to use some common sense here.

I dont think RDR2 should be used for anything. its a game that no other studio can match. 3,000 devs 7 internal studios working five years on one game alone is something no one can do. Having 200-400 person studios like ND and SSM follow that model is foolish and bound for failure. I am ok with how ND handled TLOU2, 3 year dev time with the main studio while a small number of devs worked behind the scenes while the main studio released Unhcarted 4 and Lost legacy. They have gone completely mad with Intergallactic taking the entire studio 7 years. Uncharted 4, TLOU2 and Lost Legacy were all extremely ambitious games that all came out within a 7 year period from one studio.

Regardless, I am willing to concede that some studios taking 7+ years is justified as long as they deliver something truly next gen like GTA6 and Crimson Desert. Honestly, Crimson Desert is pretty much the only game ive seen thats taken 7 years and delivered on both visuals and gameplay. Witcher 4, GTA6, Intergallactic havent even released so we are just hoping that they would be as ambitious as Crimson Desert. I mean we are 8 years in and still havent seen GTA6's gameplay. 6th year for Witcher 4 and Intergallactic and no gameplay. All we are going by is hope and faith in these developers. Edit: I'd add Fable as a 7+ year game that feels as ambitious as Crimson Desert and we've seen gameplay for it. So just two examples so far.

Death Stranding 2 took almost 6 years. Last gen DLC at best. AC Shadows took almost 6 years, amazing visuals, but not much in the gameplay department. Kingdom Come 2 took almost 6 years and while a truly great game, its not exactly pushing any boundaries. Doom 5+ years. Indy 6+ years. Spiderman 2 5 years. Dragon Age 6 years.

Every gen before this gen, devs were able to deliver next gen stuff in 2-3 years. Sometimes within the same generation as we saw with Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2, AC1 to AC2, Mass Effect 1 to ME2, KZSF to HZD, Uncharted 4 to TLOU2, Quantum Break to Control etc.

Crimson Desert? It's just a mishmash of a number of open world games without the polish, just because it has good graphics and a big world doesn't make it worth 7 years development.

That looks better than the finished game.

Not really.

Final version with RR looks better. There are still people that think CP2018 trailer looks better than final game with RT (2020 release without PT), and that 2018 trailer is missing even the most basic reflections + all materials look worse (but it shows more crowd in one area...).

I see these people that say Cyberpunk 2018 gameplay looks better than retail version, they are in a different universe I swear. Even without any RT addition, retail version looks better than it in everything. Even that area with the crowd is actually because what they did was group them up together to be all in front of you, in the final version, they are more scattered in that same area, making it effectively having more NPCs.
