Anyone Seriously Considering Sitting the Next Generation Out, Or at Least the Launch?

I honestly have no fucking clue at this point. I own a launch day PS5, and I am in a financial rough patch so the Pro is not an option right now. I want my 60fps but I can't afford a Pro right now.

If consoles are going to approach the higher end of Medium PC and lower end of High PC settings and cost $700 or more at launch, coupled with an abysmal state of software for the last decade (in my opinion based on my preferences and tastes in gaming), then I am going to have to seriously evaluate how and if I continue with my lifelong preferred method of entertainment in video games. Once I am out of this financial rough patch I can afford it, but I don't know that it is worth the cost to me as a console user anymore.

I am undecided on if I want to finally go PC or not.

Then there is my Switch 2 and that is a thing unto itself, so it is another wrinkle in this mess.

This all sucks.

PC is my primary platform, so I don't really have a need to buy in day-one for consoles anymore to play new stuff.

This generation I already waited a year in before I picked up a PS5, didn't buy an Xbox, and won't bother with a Switch 2 until they do the OLED version.

It's frankly not even that big of a deal, because first-party output quality has declined vs previous generations, cross-generation games will if anything stick around longer, and graphical jumps have been hitting diminished returns. If anything, I have more priority to get another PC for the living room now that Valve's Steam Deck interface works on Linux with Nvidia hardware now.
 
I like a new toy as much as the next guy, but let's be real here. Software-wise, there isn't gonna be a killer app when next gen launches. And while current gen offered welcome features like SSDs, fast loading, 4K upscaling and such, there isn't going to be that kind of advantage on next-gen hardware compared to current gen. The next machines would have to offer me the most amazing game in history to make me buy them day one, and chances are they won't.

I totally realize that. But I'm also starting to realize that the modern PlayStation landscape, with few exceptions, isn't really for me either.

I'm going to pass on the console. Might be interested in the handheld. I think the next thing I'll buy is killer gaming laptop to replace my 3060 laptop.
 
I buy as much as I can on PC. I'm holding onto my RTX 3090 until the RTX 60 series at this point.
I already have a Switch 2 for the Nintendo exclusives.
I may just hold onto my PS5 for the few Sony cross-gen exclusives... no point in buying a more expensive box given how rarely I use it.

Not only do I never get a console at launch, I am probably done after this generation. I have never been so disappointed. Yes there are good games, but I can play most of the ones I like on PC. I can get them cheaper on PC,.

I am especially disappointed with Playstation. I've been with them since PS1 days, and I don't know WTF they are doing now.

Xbox is....xbox. I don't own a single physical game for the thing, but I like that they do backwards compatibility proper, and they did Game Pass proper for a while, but I walked away after the recent price increase. I'd left Playstation Plus alone ages ago. It just sucks.
 
Contemplating it yes. Probably won't be able to contain my FOMO… it all depends on what we actually are getting I need to see tangible results and improvements just saying 4k/60 but now with improved ray tracing isn't going to cut it for me. Especially at the prices they are going to want.

I'd probably bit on box system if it's 1000 and the ps6 is 1000 simply because I can use Gamepass and get cdkeys or store games like steam without online payments.

I want console conscience with pc graphics / frames anyone saying you can do that today on PC is kinda lying you still need keyboards mice and extra crap for gaming that console have smooth lined. I have tried big picture mode etc and there is always some issue compromise that makes it a hassle for me.
 
PS3 -> PS4 Pro -> PS5 Pro.
Will either be nothing ever again, or IF there is a new PlayStation consol for me it will be PS6 Pro or PS7.
 
I've already got a Switch 2 (and a Steam Deck and a very aging gaming PC). While they have been some of my favorite games, big budget cinematic games I no longer have much interest in after playing Spiderman 2 and GOW Ragnarok and selling my PS5. So a PS6 is unlikely for me. If anything, I'll consider a higher end PC or laptop if I have need to upgrade one of those and pricing becomes more reasonable for them.
 
Wait it out if you have a ps5 pro, or better pc than that.

Get day 1 otherwise.

No point in missing out performance uplift next gen will bring.
 
Yes, and no. I do not compelled to get a PS6, or Nextbox. However, I have my PC, and the Switch 2 is here to stay for a few years.
 
Sell your old console and buy the new one. I mean.. its a few hundred out of pocket.

If this is supposed to be your hobby... i mean.. what are we even talking about?

These consoles last like a decade.. and you guys quibble about a few hundred dollars.

I have no more interest in the PS6 than I do in the PS5 and I don't even know what Microsoft is doing and more to the point I couldn't care less. They are a joke.

Anyway, I'll have upgraded my PC before either are out so they'll be last gen on arrival in comparison.
 
I need more information, but I'm sitting out launch at this point.

The info I want is price, specs, and games.

If rumors are true, my PC's 5070TI is more powerful than the PS6, so the PS6 will need exclusives to make me dive in.

I just think its too soon given how late this gen started and clearly hasnt come close to peaking.

Biggest difference for me is i will not be purchasing an XBox console next gen.

Salaries went up like 50% in last 5 years.

Giving even 800€ for PS6 that will last me for 8 years is a good deal.
 
Hell no. It's literally the only thing in my life that I actively look forward to buying day 1. Don't care as much about the latest phones, other electronics or hobby related goods. But the next new and shiny console from my preferred brand will always be a day one.

A few hundred extra bucks ain't gonna stop me. I'll just skip a few door dash orders, if that's ever the issue.

And I'm as backlogged as an old man hooked on Oxycodone with no fiber intake. I'll just move that backlog to the new console!

I buy every console on day 1. Next gen, only Xbox due to gamepass and build in PC.
 
Yeah for the first time I wont be getting a PS console at launch... only if they launch the ps6 with real "cant miss" full exclusives like demons souls remake (the motive I rushed to buy the ps5.. rip bluepoint and fuck gaas) ... as long as Im able to play at my pro at 60 fps I'll keep it...
 
Personally if I can afford the ps6, I will buy it at launch. Ever since I have started working, I simply enjoy gaming far more on my consoles rather than on pc. Don't know why, but it is what it is.
 
It's going to take a lot to convince me to upgrade next gen. The SSD was huge for this gen, and while I like better visuals/performance, I am plenty happy playing PS4 games on my PS5 Pro. For a few hundred bucks, it was not a big deal to upgrade. Now? We're paying more for less. It's not just diminishing returns, they've practically flatlined considering we need DF to tell us nitpicky details with pixel counting, closeups, and side-by-sides where the difference in image quality and framerate are often unnoticeable.
 
Unless there is some crazy surprise, I'm only picking up a console for gran turismo. Otherwise I'm not really interested.
 
Well see what they reveal, but Im not as excited as I would have once been.
They will need some serious UI, controller and unique features for me to consider it.

Its obvious they will leverage AI upscaling heavily, but I would like to see a UI or intergrated feature set that really sets it apart.

The PS5, XSX and now NS2 are incredibly uninspired they even removed unique features in some cases such as the PS4 broadcasting capabilities and discovery feed on the front page. Instead we get very basic "switch like" home pages.
 
I'll be on board for the last Xbox ever, as long as it's £1200 or less with a good value proposition (and a payment plan lol)

If there is a portable PS6, then I'm in since that's how my gaming needs have changed with my family. Otherwise, I'm out at launch for the traditional console.

£400 for my PS5 at launch was a bargain with a discount. Getting a good 6+ years out of it and plan to do the same next gen. Going to be playing some Saros and GTA6 this year. Early adoption of a PS console hasn't let me down any gen, even the phat PS3 gen.

I might wait to see if there isn't some glaring issue next gen before launch but I'll be there day one probably. Will still have my 5090 too if need be.
 
Here is question why would be the point of waiting? Unlike back then the consoles no longer drop the price and in fact increase price the more time passes.

As much as I didn't enjoy 90% of the Sony's first party games this gen, it doesn't change the fact for me PlayStation system was best console for 3rd party games.

As much I as I love my Nintendo systems, I buy their consoles mostly for first party exclusives.
 
Entirely depends on launch day games/exclusives for me. They throw out Bloodborne remake/2, something RE or Final Fantasy related, Super SF 6, shit like that and I'll be there day one.

The console value proposition has gone down imo, from all three. PC has become it for me.

Fuck FOMO and fuck this idiocy. This is not worth the effort and the expense anymore, my backlog is humongous, console makers can shove their price hikes where the sun doesn't shine.

It depends on launch titles.
I have PC's with 5090's, so a purchace of a "new gen" console won't be because of need of better performance, but depends on if there's a exclusive must have title at launch.
If there's no must haves for me day 1, I definitly won't get a new Playstation until it is.

Xbox is off the cards because I already have PC's with better hardware than what their PC/console hybrid will have, and all the Xbox games is also PC games.
 
I have really no idea... I have a PS5 Pro, so it should be OK even when a PS6 gets released...
But then it is a question of the price (the new price increases for the PS5 are crazy) and if I get into the hype of the new devices like at the PS5 launch...
I am very happy with the PS5 Pro hardware and I do not really see what they can really improve on it beside making it a bit faster. The PS5 is silent, the controller is great, the SSD is pretty fast, the patched PSSR2 looks great, most games look more then "good enough" with 60fps...
I do not really miss anything, and just a little bit faster and a bit nicer graphics probably won't be enough for me.
Not sure what really will be the "buy me" factor of the PS6 beside the games looking slightly better or frame generation boosts 60fps games higher...

What makes you think most people will even buy at all? Pay $1000 or more for remakes and cross-gen games? Oh that's right, they might get five exclusives all of next gen! What a great deal!
 
I expect I'll sit it out completely. What I'm 100% not doing is buying anything, ever, after the price goes up.
