Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

That's total bullshit on Nightreign. Insane repetition? From managed to create an amazingly varied and completely random game system that lets players run completely different sorties everytime they play. Moreover the relics system allows players to completely wild and respec characters to create builds that shouldn't really work but somehow they do. And if you somehow get bored of using your favorite characters you can just switch to others that you barely use; going from Avenger to Guardian is almost like playing a completely different game!

All it proves is that they have evangelist fanbases who would buy turds from the devs and display them on their mantle.

So realistically gaf fam, and guardian monke guy. What number does the steam ccu get to before the game becomes near enough to dead in matchmaking?
Below 30k 24h ccu peak(which likely means lows under 10k) will definitely be begining of the end, aka bungie devs spawning outa their asses some weird unbelievable roadmap graphs, at that point we can expect massive bungie dev studio layoffs announcement too.
If trend continues it all is gonna happen in april, but obviously its me just guessing so we will see.

Game wont get shut down for a year or two tho, it will just be in zombie state with skeleton crew operating it but no real updates/improvements.

For comparision even this creature(since i cant bring myself to call it a game) didnt get shut down somehow, but actual support/updates ended at 11 months( at that time it only had 1,5k 24h peak):

It´s really gonna end up with "Hunt" numbers isn`t it....

Oh boy, I wouldn`t want to be a Bungie employee at the moment.
Personally I am comparing this game success with Hunt Showdown, PAYDAY2 and Arena:Breakout, all of which sits at around 30K daily peaks with significantly cheaper dev cost. its confirmed doom if Marathon can't even beat these games. At minimum should be x3 better engagement than these. Next 2 weeks for me will clear everything.

Oh yeah, posting on Bluesky will reach more players.
Bungie posting exclusively on Bluehair is a perfect microcosm of where the Western gaming industry is at these days

All the Western studios and their game "journalists" fled to Bluehair because eLOn MuSK iS a nAZi only to find that they are now in an their ideal bubble of the perfectly politically aligned mentally insane modern audiences who don't actually buy any games and the sales numbers of games like Marathon reflects that

Meanwhile Asian devs are happily celebrating their millions of copies sold on Twitter like normal fucking human beings

Season 2 will be another big test. If they can't implement some solutions to kick off S2, it aint looking good.

They should try to survive with absymal numbers for like 3 months, then relaunch it with more content, QoL improvements and free-to-play, giving some sort of refund to early supporters than had a blast with the game until then. If not, I don't see how could they turn it around, and even like that chances to save it are really small.

They post on all social media, they post on X and all their posts are up at the same time on all the things.

Anyway, I read this thread in between the OT just to see what the current trends are, as someone who actually likes the game I'm definitely invested in how things go. I can understand people's opinions in here, even if I think it's wild to put this much energy into it, but I digress...

I'm still hoping they pull something out of their asses to keep the game alive, but I know there's a group of people who will refuse to acknowledge any improvements, no matter how big and better it makes the game, whether it's because it's Bungie, it's GAAS, etc.

Personally I got more out of it already than I did with Arc (50 hours and counting compared to 36 total for Arc), and worst case if it does fail and ends up shutting down (I doubt that will happen, honestly) I can hop into Hunt, as I own it but never gave it a fair shot, and probably scratch that itch that Marathon is currently satisfying.

I agree with this. They're gonna have to do something big to stay alive.

Look at NeoGAF. They don't even like these sorts of games and Marathon is probably the most discussed game of 2026.

Tons of people will be curious to see what Bungie does with Marathon over the next 3 months.
What's the next big GaaS Men? Jist want to make sure I get in the ground floor

I've been playing and enjoying the game for what it is. But that weekend map…. That was shit. So confusing. Normally I would like it, but the level of entry is a bit steep just to do trial and error. I hope they release meaningful roadmap soon, because once I get max level, it's going on the back burner…oh and fix the store items. So lame….

The copium on here hoping Sony go back to making Single Player games if Marathon fails, they have been killing off single player studios .... unfortunatley this is the world we live in where GAAS is the absolute money maker, its shit but thats the industry now.

But this isn't true though.

It's early but just a fun CCU comparison between today's server maintenance day and last weeks using 11 am completed hour. Apples to apples as it's same Tues morning and same time slots servers were down.

Last week: 27k
Today: 19.5k (-28%)

The 12 pm hourly comparison cant be done yet as today's hour isnt complete. But last week it was 34.6k, so far today at 12:20 pm it's 21.5k. Down -38% but still 40 min to go to catch up. Maybe it hits 30k. Who knows.

Not to get too dark but the Manhattan Project didn't require a large number of "successes".

Key difference is that the Federal gov't isn't in it to make a profit. These companies only have a finite amount of money to waste before someone comes in with a hammer to get rid of them.

The industry is where it's at today due to that fact. Competition breeds excellence.

I am pleased with where the industry is today. Others...not so much.

Listening to fallout talk about the game and they're all the same just talk about how frustrating the game is and can be and how they get their asses kicked but it's so amazing... I feel like this is your typical marathon player

Sony has more than enough live service money from third parties.

Built they need some of their own too. Which they now have. Honestly, I'm kinda Anti-GAAS but the truth is Sony needs one or two more successful GAAS games to be complete.

This game will struggle for users.

Not only on the down trend which is bad already, but unless they figure out a good way to cater to both casual and hardcore gamers, this game will keep going down until it hits that mystery number of hardcore gamers maintaining a dedicated threshold.

Since the gamer CCU keeps going down it's not there yet.

Why would they? They make 30% of every single successful GaaS Game on Playstation.

They should stick to what they're good at. Nobody needs more live service slop, the market is overcrowded as is.

Destiny 2's new event just launched and it's completely broken.
True, but also completely normal for Bungo :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And also I'd say recycled event. I am assuming it's the exact same thing as last year, which to be fair the Rushdown stuff was new-ish (well, built from recycled content of course) and pretty fun whereas I find most of the events to be complete chores.

Because they are greedy and was jealous of fortnite and third party companies bragging during earnings reports at high margin mtx.

So instead of sitting back and being happy with 30%, they rolled the dice spending billions on gaas studios and games hoping they can cash in and keep 100% of it from their games.

And out of all of this new gaas stuff, the only big hit is helldivers 2. And they still got horizon hunters and fairgames and whatever other gaas stuff to cover.

Man, down 12k CCU from this time last week.

There's a tipping point that feels like it's been hit. As numbers come down those remain become more exposed to things like skill gap and being able to find a match. All negative elements that put more pressure on the remaining players.

I see that Bungie are trying to keep the signal of comms open, talking about actively working on addressing concerns. But there comes a point where they're answering critique of house decor when the building is on fire.

Next content drop isn't for another couple months.

Easiest way to build users without rocking the boat gameplay wise if they want to keep things whole is in April make it sub plan, f2p, or free weekend test, etc... if April is too early pissing off $40 gamers, then do it in May. But The CCU is dropping a couple grand every day and you don't want to get it too low. So do it mid April. That would give a month gap from gamers who bought it
