Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

The grind of it wasn't known until late last night, lol. Whatever makes you feel better
Lmao, yes it fucking was. Man's coming here and literally lying to defend his favorite games performance. :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

20 hours ago, as the patch dropped. :messenger_blowing_kiss:

Funny how the metrics went from copies sold to number of players to downloads and now we're at Discord numbers.

Wow
Some people have a very difficult time accepting they are enjoying a not so popular thing. I like so many things that are unpopular and/or flat out considered bad ... It dont take away my enjoyment at all... sometimes Im watching an old comedy movie and my girl sits beside me telling me how awful and stupid it is, and I just laugh it out and continue to enjoy my silly stupid movie. I enjoy music that 90% of the city I live think its terrible because of the local culture, I dont give a fuck, crank up and let the drums sound.

Meanwhile instead of playing your beloved game and staying in the OT discussing the many good things about it, some buthurt people stay here waiting for some kind of validation that will never come and definitely isnt needed.
This sums up perfectly the difference of people and why we see people that push so hard to silence others from shitting on a game because they either know deep down there's a semblance of truth to the shitting or they just can't handle remotely seeing anyone dislike something they like.

Like you said you enjoy your stuff, no matter what someone says it's not gonna prevent you... This is the attitude we need more of because then discussions don't need to get to where people are just so worked up over someone disliking their preferred game.

Like even in a small battlefield 6 convo, dudes complain about it and I say they're wrong... The game is awesome... Nothing will change or sway me, I'll discuss til I'm content when they're like this sucks that sucks... They can say it but to me they're wrong, it's really all that simple.

Maintenance caused it, same thing happened a week ago, will be be back to dropping.
Ya it did. Peak was tracking at +6%. Ended up only +1% yesterday!

It's early morn but not tracking well. About flat to Monday that's not good because this game has a trend lately if being decent in the morning/euro hours and tailing off peak time USA hours. If it's only flat now it means it'll probably go negative again where the patch yesterday was a temp bump.

Some people have low self esteem. Who cares if a game has low users and underperforming? If you like it just play it it's not like marathon has zero players and it can't be played anymore.

Theres some steam games I've played with literally 10 CCU. I just checked Rogue Dungeon. A game I got lately and haven't played yet. It has 1 CCU now. So by the time I play it, it might be 2 people. Or I might be the only guy in the world playing it! Who cares.

But what happened is the gamer hyped it up in his head and is a big brand loyalist. So if it underperformed they feel like crap and need to defend their purchase.
Adding Cryo increased the peak by 1% compared to the previous day 🔥
Talk about a GAAS tactic. It's up because the community has to goof around slogging it to unlock a map? We'll that's one way to get people to keep playing lol. The fact it was only up 1% shows nobody cared.

Some people just don't like admitting they like something that isn't as well received as they hoped.

When I played cod a ton during 360 and x1 my fav is world at war. A game that was already in WWII fatigue, same 357 kill streaks, modern warfare and black ops games sold more, got higher reviews, gamers loved them more. Who cares.

I got to see a ton of TV ads for Marathon yesterday. They were just awful. The colors, the presentation, hardly any gameplay. The few clips of gameplay looked boring. It in no way helped to sell me on the game. It is like they wanted this to fail.

Some streamer last night was crunching the numbers and thinks they can get into the map by Saturday if the community keeps grinding.

So in order to review the game properly places like IGN/Gamespot have to meet all these minimum requirements? lol

I understand the sentiment of wanting others to share our tastes and passion for something. But I really can't get why their enjoyment depends on others opinions. It's pathetic IMO.

I like DMC 2 a lot and really love Final Fantasy XV. I acknowledge their many flaws and why people hate them but I couldn't care less.

Fucking ridiculous. Hahaha.

Well that's one way to delay reviews even more.

No doubt some of these game site reviewers were all ready to go. They just needed to try out the final map. Now they're supposed to grind it out more. Lol

If I was a review site I'd just say fuck it and upload the review. Who the hell wants to be dragged through the mud like this for a video game review?

Considering how meh the reviews have been, no wonder they tried to stall game reviews. If they all published their 7/10 reviews it'd get raked over the coals even more

It's a tactic carried over from some Destiny 2 events.
It's meant to get and keep people in the game to grind hours upon hours to "reveal" or unlock something.

It sorta worked in Destiny when they had high player counts and streamers were hyped about being the first to "unlock" the puzzle.
It attracted all sort of internet sleuths and puzzle lovers.

With such low numbers and even some of the OG Destiny 2 streamers either not touching or barely streaming this game, I don't know how effective it will be for this game.

Imagine getting hyped for a 1% increase in CCU...lol

I remember seeing a marathon ad on YouTube around release. My only thought was: who is this even supposed to appeal to? It felt like a collection of colors and noise.

This game has never once ever been promoted as a great playing game.

It's always been about style and memeish character pics. Some people like it, some don't

You can get to level 25 in 10-15 hours. Fuck any reviewer that doesn't put that amount of time into any game they review

Now that the grind is known, which the community rally and show up to unlock it? Will the CCU spike because there is a reason to return?
Doubtful. Maybe closer to release. Marathon is not Helldivers 2. It is a highly competitive PvP shooter where you are highly incentivized to ignore bots as much as possible

Literally everything about this game is just gaslighting people into accepting the GAAS initiative. Sony went full psy op route for this games marketting because they knew the game couldn't speak for itself on a mainstream scale.

Some people on gaf have an unhealthy obsession with this game and seeing it fail. It will only fail if bungie gives up, almost the same happened with Destiny 1's launch with pointed criticism at the "lack" of content in Destiny 1, but Bungie turned that around. I don't think the game is doing as bad as gaf wants us to think, specially if steam #'s are the only ones we are using. There are consoles too, ya know.

Doubtful.

Morning tracking and this game is about flat CCU to Monday (excluded Tuesday due to server maintenance).

So even with the hype and ramp up to unlocking the new map people aren't jumping in.

Only way it spikes is if there's an outlier like a price drop or something. Or there's lots of marathon gamers who qualify but are waiting in the sidelines for the rest of the gamers to do the grunt work to unlock it.

This game won't be a highguard but it's basically done. What you see is kind of what you'll get and it'll slowly trend down.

Best way to prop it up fast is a price drop or dump it on ps+ subs and tons of people can jump in for free

Destiny 1 sold about 5M copies at launch.

Psn tracking isn't great where people showed at a country rank it's not doing great at rank 10-50. And on Xbox it was rank 70.

If your first big community event that is needed to unlock the one asset Bungie asked reviewers to wait for doesn't stop the slow decline of the CCU, this game is absolutely fucking done.

Yeah, you're full of shit. I was there day one when Destiny launched. Everything about that game was extremely hyped. People craved it and it sold extremely well. It was a massive hit from day one. Hell, sony even droped a special edition white PS4 for it. Marathon is nothing like Destiny when it launched. The gaslighting around this game is absolutely ridiculous.

Articles said destiny was a huge hit estimated at 5M units generating $325M retail sales at launch. And that was a full priced game.

And destiny 1 never even came out for PC

Marathon is $40 and still sold a fraction of D1 across console and PC

Point is... the game didn't actually fail. The game is good, has strong player reviews on Steam, has a kinda good core player base.
Its "fault" is not being mainstream. It will probably never be. I don't think it can follow Destiny 1 evolution.

Bullshit. Bungie isn't some omnipotent developer that can turn any sinking ship around. I think marathon has already crossed the threshold where its now going to slowly but inevitably pass into irrelevance.

Releasing the map that supposedly ties it all together a week and a half after launch just seems moronic to me. Then requiring a community quest an extra 5 days to unlock on top of that.
Marathon really is a bunch of poor decisions.

Got to stretch out that player engagement. The more they play, the more they'll buy a giant Lego helmet skin

How many shooter games require players to hit a min character spec and the community pouring into it to unlock a map?

That's how I feel about the game too. It's a good game that happens to be niche, unfortunately. The hope is that it grows over time, but we'll see on that one. All I know is that I haven't had this kind of fun in a MP game since probably PUBG. My wife and I have been having a blast.

I remember arc had you level up to go to "harder" maps, but I did that within the first few hours of play.
Then there's using MMO style community grinds to unlock the integral portions of a game, I've never seen. For a shooter that is just stupid.

For sure, trying to convince someone that their subjective opinion about entertainment/art/music is wrong - is a fools errand. We can think people are retarded for hating or loving something that we like/despise, but ultimatly we shouldn't be so fragile that we can't enjoy/hate something even if some people are vocal about feeling differently.

I like plenty of games that gets shat on, but that takes away excactly 0% of my enjoyment.

Fuck, I even sleep peacefully knowing that there are sub-humans out there that like Dragon Age - The Veilguard. 😁

Bungie gatekeeping this map with level requirements and forced community engagement is stupid. And what's in this map anyway, better trash to collect? Aliens? Large mechanical spider you take out in 3 minutes? the possibilities are endless.

What's "unhealthy" about it? I'll wait.

What isn't good about it? 7th place, out of all the games on Steam, isn't good? I'm not following.
7th place for a brand new game of that caliber is really not good, especially considering much older titles like Helldivers II are outperforming it and a single-player game in its second week is also beating it.

20th on PlayStation?? That's awful.

Don't lie, D1 was huge at the time and everyone was pumped it was one of a kind back then and people were loving it myself included.

Still Curious to hear what's unhealthy about simply seeing a bad game fail?

That's the downside of having Paid MP. (And why Magnus is so dangerous)

I've never seen a game as hated as this one and treating it as a coliseum sport. Especially by people who've never given it a chance. Pathetic.

The Starfield Review thread was very active for quite a few weeks. The Concord CCU thread was pretty damn good.

Damn. Good thing this isn't exclusive to Sony consoles. It would be a complete disaster instead of merely underperforming.
