A $25 card game is demolishing a $40 mainstream extraction shooter that was commissioned by a multi-billion dollar publisher on the backs of a washed-up greedy developer.

Good on gamers and good on Slay the Spire 2.

That puts it at #20 all-time CCU. Good for them!

Steam supposedly has 132M monthly active users. 575,000 / 132,000,000 = ~0.4% of all Steam players were playing Slay the Spire 2 at the same time.

Between this and Pokopia my weekend has been shot. Slay the spire was a fantastic game and this continues the tradition. Will try out multiplayer at some point as well.

Indie game dream, they are swimming in cash.

The price point is also the kind of price where people don't give a shit and just get it. When people have to pay over $30 they double-think what to do.

I don't really care about card games, but this game is giving me FOMO. I thought BG3 looked boring, got FOMO when the CCU blasted off and it ended up being my GOTY. Wondering if Slay the Spire 2 will be similar in that it doesn't look like it interests me, but I end up loving it.

I enjoyed the first immensely, purchased this early access with the bundle discount. Only question is how many balance patches I wait out before I dive in.

Kinda puts into question what the word "mainstream" should be applied to.

Steam folks love multiplayer and cheap stuff like this. No wonder RE9 is selling more on PS5 than anywhere else. It's two very difference audiences.

for some reason, the first game is still not available on PSN asia.

Steam folks love multiplayer and cheap slop. No wonder RE9 is selling more on PS5 than anywhere else.
i think a large group of the steam users does not have good PC hardware to play AAA games as well.

Nah Indies always do well on Steam. Console gamers always like to talk like PC users are snobs and stuff but they will play anything if its supposed to be good or fun. While its console gamers that always belittle Indie games, even AA games at times.

Whats wrong with RE9 on pc...its doing awesome numbers!? Just release good games and people buy them. No one cares where you play yr game.

So true.

Console gamers try to promote to the mases they are the true gamers buying up AAA exclusives ad whatnot. Well, if they are such big time gamers why are all the top selling and played games all the mainstream big titles? PC gamers play tons of different games across so many more genres too.

Consoles get a lot of indie games too. But it sure seems on their top played/sold charts they barely chart. They do so much better on PC.

I wish I didn't have GDC all week, I wanna play this!

It's games and studios like this that make me always say the game industry is fine, these bungies and ubisofts etc aren't the be all end all. We have some devs that prioritize their games first and not their politics and look what happens, its awesome to see.

It is great to see, but also a shame the big corps waste so much manpower and money on their big budget busts. They got the resources, but just dont have the creativity or strategy go make good games with modest costs. It always has to be go big or go home mentality. And to ensure it maximizes the money, often either $70 junk or filled to the brim with mtx (or both).

If they could figure out how to make good games for much cheaper like all the A-grade or indie studios, and not always trying to blow their wad on 500 graphic artists doing RT reflections and swaying hair, many would do better. Both games and financial stability.

But they prefer to roll the dice betting it all on a roulette table. Crazy. But that's how gaming is for a lot of studios.

I knew this would pop off but not like this. The first game retained a crazy amount of players and had a huge mod scene, and a lot of the mods were in Chinese. I'm a sucker for these games and this is the return of the OG. Happy for the devs. It's only like 6 dudes too.

I regularly play Slay the Spire 1, it's a phenomenal game. I'm happy the sequel has such a following already but I'm waiting for a Switch version (which I will buy day one).

Wild the second biggest game of the year doesn't have an OT on here.

Game is a lot of fun - way more than the first IMO.

Easily lost 3 hours today on it in the blink of an eye.
