Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Lmao at the mines part when youre supposed to go get the plug and need to go through inspection zone. The Monster appears and starts to constantly beat the zombie that its near the forklift. Been watching the zombie constantly getting up and the monster beating it for more than 5 minutes😂
As an ammo conservative player, that part was frustrating the fuck out of me lmao.
I did NOT want to waste any bullets/injectors on the zombie so I spent a lifetime in that vent waiting for the stalker to let the zombie move away.

I played 5, the one with the outbreak in Africa. I knew the general lore about outbreak in Racoon City and Umbrella Corp, not sure how I know, probably a combination of having seen the 1st movie, and also probably just from osmosis from being in the gaming culture all these years.
So 2 is the only one I really need before playing this game?
I would at least recommend watching a recap video on Youtube about Umbrella Corp.

I don't know how extensive your knowledge is of the lore, and one of the major plot points in this game revolves around info that is usually relegated to journal entries throughout the games.

But you'll still understand the gist of the story without it. You'll just miss out on character and company connections throughout the franchise.

EDIT: If you remember RE5 well enough and read the journals in it, that may be enough.

I'm hoping Leon gets the focus after the whole Mansion area is over (which has been great btw).

But 15 minutes of Leon, 1-2h of Grace is starting to feel a bit too much :messenger_grinning_sweat:

It's like I want to master John Wick and the game constantly makes me play Ballerina

Ok. So all the positive reviews have me interested in the game. But I've only ever played one resident evil game prior to this (RE5). Are there any prior story elements I need to know to enjoy this? Is there any game I need to play before this one to understand what's going on with the story and characters?

have to be brutally honest with you and say buy RE7 first. It is very cheap, and one of the best horror games ever. After that I would grab 9 then 8.
Reason being its very debatable if the game is worth the $70+ price tag...

I finished it not long ago and it was fantastic. The developers masterfully intertwined the two gameplay styles of each of the main characters whilst telling a story where each character complemented the story structure. This is the best dual protagonist game I've ever played with regards to gameplay. Amazing game and much better than Village.

I finally caved and bought it yesterday. I'm four hours deep and, god damn, is this a scary game. The parts with Grace are incredibly tense and the Stalkers are terrifying. I can't remember the last time I was this stressed playing a game... It looks incredible on the base PS5, although I'm a bit jelly when I see the Pro footage. Can't wait to sink my teeth further into this over the weekend.

I'm with you. I got through the initial Grace section with gritted teeth, but I'm thankful that I did because it is such a great game.

For me the part I'm struggling the most is trying to get Grace's pistole.

There are lot of zombies around you have no resources to fight all of them and one grab from them and you are dead.
Revolutionary nailed it, you can just sneak past all them using the columns after the singer leaves the room. One zombie patrols behind the piano, so you really only have to stealth a single zombie to get the pistol. That pistol is a game changer. I got it before I ever picked up the other, and the other just went right into storage.

I don't even want to think about Leon against those spec ops soldier in the lab on Insanity.
I feel like a lot of Leons sections will suck. I had a ROUGH time with the sniper section until I realized you could kill the zombie that becomes a blister head before you even start.

90% done, will finish it tonight.
Grace's VA has been great right up until this point when her constant stutter at the beginning of EVERY sentence got very jarring and a little annoying.
First half totally justifiable, didn't bother me but I was expecting some change here towards the end of the game. Plus the fact that she looks down when speaking with others.. ugh.

Just started a play through on insanity.... Erm.... Wtf!

The first woman that interestingly kisses that guy as she's turning into a zombie wrecked me!

How much more difficult is this mode compared to classic which was unfortunately far too easy?

My playthrough took 22 hours lol. I took my time looking at everything, especially in Raccoon. Now to see what to buy to make my second playthrough even more fun.

Mine will probably wind up around there (or more) as well. I haven't even reached RPD yet..

Hopefully will wrap this and Romeo is a Dead Man over the weekend :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

going to the upper level didn't help?
Oh it helped, but it breaks and you can only use each upper level once. It was a definitely life saver though, you can unload and get some good hatchet time in.

Even after abusing all those, it felt like it was to the wire and I had no ammo left.

IMO it's the perfect difficulty. Manageable like Madhouse, but not Village of Shadows stupid difficult.

What sniper section are you talking about?
Defending Grace before the chapel. She dies too quick while you're dealing with your own threats from behind and this was making me rage. Thankfully you can just take off both the zombies heads before they turn so no blisterheads to deal with.

You don't remember her?
Is that the reason you didn't call her, maybe?

On a side note, anyone else noticed that the First Person Cutscenes actually quietly disappear after a while?
It's like they wanted you to believe that's how the game was and then didn't even bother later once it's obvious it's not like RE7.

I did think village of shadows was that difficult, if I'd have known I'd have moaned about it more.

I'll try again later on, I died 5 times with Grace just trying to get into the part where you use the coins.

Good stuff.

You died 5 time in a corridor with no enemies ?

I hadn't noticed the first-person thing, but that's a good point. In hindsight, it's yet another thing that made the opening hours more immersive for me.

I think "The Girl" reveal was actually the last one.
Before that it was mixture, mostly First Person.
But then mixes to then finally sticking to 3rd/cinematic cutscenes.
It's a shame you can't choose base on your play because it kinda ruins the 3rd Person mode at the beginning because of the camera flipping, I mean it does it for first person too,
but that scene with "The Girl" when you first met her looked a bit off, a cut scene with Grace visibly inspecting the dead body and you see the Monster appear out the darkness behind her and eats the guys head while Grace keeps still and then it moves closer behind her and screams would have been more effective, that just looked odd and then jumping to gameplay makes it disconnected.
If it was 3rd person they could have done the animation of her scrambling away into gameplay like other parts of the game but instead we're stuck with the camera flip regardless.
Immersive for you, but actually breaks it for most, we know we ain't Grace so we can't really immersed into that, but watching her is a different story

So if i see this correctly the disc version again doesn't support the ps5 pro? Installed it and nothing showed up in the options 😬based on the website does its play the disc version without a patch works flawless but since the ps5 pro was released not a single game has native ps5 pro support so if one day you can't get patches anymore on ps5 pro you will always be stuck with the ps5 version ... Was hoping this game was different...

I'm not sure what you mean. I have the disc version and a PS5 Pro. The game is Pro enhanced and functions perfectly without the recent patch.

In the options graphics settings is no ray tracing toggle which means its the basic ps5 Version without pro support based on 1.0 and FSR 1.0

I switched Grace to 3rd person view.

I got killed 3 times in a row running away from *spoiler monster* then made it first shot in 3rd person view.
Weird 🤔

There is a toggle for Ray Tracing under the Graphics sub menu.
No its not with Version 1.0 installed.

Edit:
Tested a few minutes without patch didn't look impressive especially the hair. Installed the patch ray tracing option was then there and picture quality was much much as expected.

Third person perspective increases your view range and mobility a lot.
I can understand people want 1st person view on VR for "immersion" but 1st person view in RE games doesn't feel good to play.

I put 3rd person both Grace and Leon and felt natural and I don't think I ever go back to 1st person.

They spent a lot of time on the character models, I want to be able to see them more often than when it's a cutscene.

always has. first-person in video games simply doesn't accurately simulate real world first-person peripheral vision...
I agree that it doesn't, but I still find myself very immersed in first person experiences and enjoy them a lot. I'm not partial to Resident Evil being in first person necessarily though. But something like Skyrim, Etc I can't play any other way. And don't want to.

That was one of my biggest complaints about seven and eight is that they were designed for first person perspective. That said I still ended up playing the gray sections in first person just because I wanted to go through it as Capcom intended. It's not really what I want from Resident Evil but I did enjoy it this time around. I'm going to try third person on the playthrough again though.

Unless there was a day one patch I didn't notice when I installed it, it should be there. The patch released today or yesterday shouldn't have added the toggle. Because I've been playing it since launch day. So I guess I might've not noticed the day one patch?

same! wasn't sure if i'd enjoy biohazard, but ended up really loving both it & village (huge ethan fan, actually). first-person is a valid approach, particularly if you're going for a claustrophobic effect. but, yeah, i didn't play any of requiem in first-person. if given a choice, i'll always go third-person (even with skyrim & fallout)...

Weird 🤔
Weirdly, I played it at default on my first run and had no issues, but on my 2nd run playing in 3rd person, I found controlling Grace awful. When running away she kept stumbling and doing the deer on ice routine and made it awkward to control her. I don't remember having any issue like that in first person.

I didn't know it improved mobility, but I've been playing the entirety of the game in third person because of the increased view range. It'd be one thing if the perspective was half assedly slapped on like they did with RE8, but here I find it's as good as it is in RE2, 3 and 4R.

Just got to Raccoon City on Insanity and this kind of difficulty just isn't fun to me. I'll finish it just to have it completed but it's not something I'd ever play again. Really needed something other than this as an unlockable mode/difficulty.

You are 100% correct.

I died 3 times in a row in 1st person with zero stumbling then when switching to 3rd person did notice her stumbling 3 times but made it out alive.

Which is weird because I knew what I had to do and my controller input was exactly the same in both cases.

man, the developers loved her scrambling/stumbling animation almost as much as they did her stammering/stuttering when saying anything other than 'leon!'...

I installed it offline. So far i didn't encounter a single game that supports ps5 pro on version 1.0 and we are 1,5 year in. So if pros survive the long run physical versions will always be just plain ps5 versions...

The problem with insanity (imo) is that instead of suffle things up, Capcom just made bullet sponge zombies and called a day.

For exemple, they could have put lickers on care center or made chef free to roam around the whole place, without making enemies unfun to deal.

Finished the game right now. 10 hours and I haven't rushed it. Very disappointing experience. There are some good moments but pacing it's very inconsistent futhermore wtf it's the point of Grace especially after seen the ending. Sure gameplay has some interesting ideas but the whole execution is opinable and the stealth mechanics in the final area seems so bad designed for the frustration they leave 😕 . Anyway it's sad to have wait a remake to have again a proper good RE titles.

Grace was Spencer's adopted daughter.

So um assuming early zombies on Raccoon are bullet sponges because Leon lacks upgrades? Is that correct?
