Asha Sharma: Next Xbox Project Name: "Helix" - Will 'lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games'

They'll bring back kinect so that you have to show your face to prove you're an adult improve their AI without your consent.

Lead in performance lol they are about to do some corporate espionage and go and steal some early PS6 benchmarks just like they did with gonzalo back in 2018 and devised their moronic sandwich xsx and xss strategy around it. A strategy that blew up in their face when sony was able to upgrade from 8 to 10 tflops.

And yet here they are. Making promises of leading in performance this early without sony having announced anything. Shameful.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 told us this way back in 2024~ ish.

The Discord leak was January 2024. Pretty sure HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 mentioned it around December 2023. What if he is Phil Spencer all along?

Its going to outperform the ps5 pro. So its "leading performance". Chances are ps6 may come out later.

Xbox and PC games doesn't necessarily mean other stores since Microsoft sells both Xbox and PC games. Still a lot of questions
I mean TECHNICALLY you are right, but we had Phil out there talking about other storefronts, we had Epic say they've spoken to MS about it, etc.

So they will keep the same plan already stablish by Sarah Bond? Sadly, the same boring strategy. Expensive hardware with nothing to differentiate itself from competitors.

Don't most modern games perform better on Xbox Series X now? PS6 having 30GB of VRAM would definitely blow up in their face, but according to leaks, Microsoft didn't make any other mistakes like they did with Series. Memory is the only missing crucial piece.

Sounds very, very expensive.
I figure any OEM who takes up "an opportunity" to make some derivative of the Helix will demand serious coin from Microsoft to offset the risk of units sitting on warehouse shelves due to lack of demand. They may adopt a wait and see attitude to analyze reception of consumers to mainline Helix first.

Nothing expensive about it, it's about reducing the workloads for devs. Currently they do a PC SKU (GDK), and a Console SKU (GDKX). If they do a universal "Xbox" SKU, the devs wouldn't mind if license is universal as no additional workloads. So it would be a PC SKU that is scalable to various hardware but can also be optimized to presets for fixed spec hardware.

So future more powerful hardware can get presets or just play everything scaled up. Automatic backwards and forwards compatibility but still optimized to 3 to 4 sets of fixed set hardware every 3-4 years.

That means they could do a 24 CU, 48 CU, 68 CU Consoles, then have Handhelds, Laptops, PCs using the exact same chips.

From the leaks that MLiD put out that were confirmed by @KeplerL2 , the PS6 console is pretty powerful.
Nope. PS6 will be 9070 level of perf like 5070. This thing will bring 5080 perf.

PS6 speculation 160-180w, Magnus 250w. It is another level.

I would say 25-30% more RAW perf on this. But considerable more expensive.

Gotta wonder how much they will reveal at 10am event on a Wednesday
Yeah I've no idea.

Hopefully they'll at least let us know if the rumors are true that we can expect Steam and EGS on it. I mean wasn't there a report that it would have a Windows mode but also a console mode? You'd think that in Windows mode you'll definitely have those stores on it. But also in console mode?

I can't see PS6 being the tard version by the time it comes out. 9070xt or bust.

I feel back. How about you guys?

Asha Sharma right now
im back GIF
If that's true release the single player Halo as planned but, add a statement in the end credits that says the following "Play our next multiplayer Halo story on Project Helix!" Boy, that would show how back you are.

Hopefully nowhere near as many firmware bugs as Surface line.
Im not even talking about that... im talking about the fact that youtube channels pay more attention to a new Dell XPS than a new Surface, for example. If Surface ceases to exist today... market wouldnt even feel! And Xbox is ALMOST at this level. If Helix is just glorified PC with emulation, it WILL have the same destiny, because I can create the same machine, with the same specs and pay less because it won't have this glorified trademark.

As both a console and PC gamer, I dont get this strategy at all. Traditional console gamers just want plug and play experience. Games that are optimized for the console when you start the game up. If the new xbox just becomes yet another PC among the million other variations of PCs out there, you lose that simplistic plug and play and optimization that makes console gaming appealing to the average gamer. And you lose the concept of generations, because 3rrd parties will make similar PCs for the TV that will launch xbox software as well, with new tech coming out yearly. Which will make the new xbox feel dated pretty quickly. IDK, I just think from a console perspective, this is a bad move.

You're so full of shillit.

"The return of Xbox". That's the second time she's used that wording. No reason to push the "will play your Xbox and PC games" line at this early stage unless Sharma wants to control the messaging. "Everything is an Xbox" may be going away, but "Your Xbox does everything" is starting to get into Sony's "It only does Everything" territory.

If they're going to GDC with this, then they're ready to talk implementation. We'll likely get confirmation if Helix has a proper Xbox-console API, meaning there will still be Xbox versions of software and games, or, if it's a Windows PC with a console front end and BC baked into the hardware. I'm leaning on the latter, which means the Series consoles would be the last to get specific versions of games.

By "Universal SKU" you mean 1 SKU? Because that's just releasing a game on Windows Store.
