[Bloomberg] Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC (Ghost of Yotei port and other internally developerd games scrapped)

Listen, I'm not saying I agree with it..IF its even true, but one could argue, their goal may have been to convert those consumers to buying a PS in the future.

As in, you may have learned about The Last Of Us on PC, you'll end the IP on Playstation...

That sounds to me like they know what they are doing bud. Many will buy a PS6 or something to play those sequels they got on PC. I think they should continue the whole 1 year or 2 year exclusive thing and put it on PC btw, I'm merely stating that such a point of putting them only on PS6 has its benefits for Sony. Cheaper development, faster dev time, more hardware sold by those converts etc

I'm not saying the decision doesn't or can't make business sense. I'm just saying that they've been all over the fucking place over the last 5 years. They've been a mess of a company and are lucky Xbox fucked up even worse somehow this gen.

I don't think they would ever come out and officially announce it, there is no benefit in doing so other than pissing people off. They'll still be releasing (multiplayer) games on PC anyway and their strategy could change again in the future, no reason to close any doors.

They have no reason to announce anything about PC, they never promised anything in the first place....

Or in other words:

They don't give a shit about PC.....

Stealth kill/ambush using knife or killing males in a shootout is different compared to killing them showing physical superiority.
She can be brutal/merciless but she cant win vs men in physical strenght contest, here some finishers from TR 2013:

Here in shadow of tombraider aka 3rd part of new trilogy where lara is older/more experienced(and game defo more woke) we experiencing clear signs of her being too op in meele range/raw physical strenght but its still not as bad as in some games and she still needs to use knife/stealth/enviroment and we can clearly see her losing vs bosses in strenght contests.

So i agree here are few questionable behaviours from her not being tiny fragile woman but instead steroided to the max 250lbs hulk of a guy with a female skin instead .
Very likely that upcoming continuation will be even worse in that aspect but lets wait and see...

Bro…

It's literally how Nathan Drake fights big bosses and enemies as well. Especially on harder difficulties. Why do you think 2013 was compared to Uncharted so much?

And I already posted what inspired Yotei above.

It's inspired from this 1973 classic. Which also inspired Kill Bill.

Beat me to it.

An absolute fucking classic.
Rumor my ass

It's a Bloomberg article that refers directly to Sony Group with sources inside the company....

Keep coping, though

I mean, StreetsofBeige StreetsofBeige has a point. This is still a rumor and I would be cautious on believing Jason's article. This man exaggerates a fuck ton for clicks and this has been Sony's most profitable generation in history. I'm not saying its wrong btw, it could very well be true, merely that Street has a more valid point.

It is just a rumor.

I think its fair to call it that and wait til Sony actually confirms any shift for real regarding this. I would not mind if it was true tbh, but Sony.....well Sony loves money lol

Jason I think confirmed that wolverine isn't coming aswell.

So much for that marvel contract apparently forcing Sony to release on pc 🙃

Sony won't confirm anything...

But they won't deny anything either, and that alone will prove it's true....

We also have nate the hate confirming sonys change of strategy on pc, although he didn't give specifics.

Yea I don't know about all that sir lol

This is factually Sony's most profitable generation in history and the gen is not even done yet.

https://www.ign.com/articles/playst...ys-most-profitable-console-generation-to-date

They are doing better then fine, they are have made more money from PS this gen, then all generations combined.

That is a far cry from "been a mess of a company" as I'm trying to figure out how to fuck up like this...I want to be this type of mess sir, come show me how to fuck up so badly, I do more profits then all past generations COMBINED! lol

Lets not be hyperbolic man, I don't see any factual evidence that supports what you are saying. I only go based on hard data, not merely emotions or someone's feelings over something.

There are very obvious benefits to doing so. This is why platform owners normally announce when a game is exclusive to the platform, rather than keeping it a secret and letting people try and figure it out for themselves.

You may be right that they don't wish to do so here in case they have to reverse course later though.

I remember thomasmahler thomasmahler making a huge post about why exclusives are not viable anymore.

What is his take on this?

I am noticing a pretty significant budget cut on SP titles (Ghost of Yoti, GOW Sons of Sparta etc)

It's a lot easier to break financial records when you have literally no competition.

And beyond that, I can only speak about my own experience and relationship with the brand and their value to me. I don't care if they're making record profits if their direction and game catalog has been garbage for me over the last 5 years.

"Guys, we release ports late and charge a ton of money for them. Also, our games are mediocre. WHY AREN'T THEY BUYING THEM?" - Sony

They could easily deny it and say they are commited to releasing games on PC (such as their multiplayer stuff and Partner games like Kena). I don't think there'll be any way of really knowing for sure until over a year later. If it's been close to two years after the original launch and Yotei hasn't been announced yet, then it would be a strong indication.

I mean, half their games sold like shit, so it doesn't look like the PC crowd cared all that much.

Returnal, Rift Apart, Sackboy, Spider-Man 2, Ragnarok, and Forbidden West did underwhelming numbers. Seems they really didn't want them all that much. Else they would have bought them.
True and it just pissed PS fans. Lets bring back battle of exclusives. That is why Nintendo always been successful.

Sounds like complicating things for no real purpose, if GAAS trash and good game collaborations like Kena and Stellar Blade keep releasing on PC, there is no loss in any of this other than Single Player games that aren't hitting the mark like they used to

Ok but....has Sony actually confirmed any of this or?

ohhh

So......nothing basically?

Talk to me when Sony themselves actually confirm this. Jason lies too much for clicks.

This seems like culmination of rumors from last few days. Nothing official but I think there is too much smoke to say that this is not happening... We will see x months from now.

They have no reason to announce anything about PC, they never promised anything in the first place....

Or in other words:

I bet they don't give a shit about all those sales and profits Helldivers 2 made on PC. Same for all their GaaS push games they released or plan to release on PC.

Lol - so weird if true. To pivot after a few years - so Tsushima gets ported but not the sequel? This must kind of suck for all the PlayStation devs too - they were really excited about having their games be on some decent hardware for once and push some of the technology. Now they're back in console prison. It's a shame Sony's overarching PC strategy utterly failed them and PC gamers.

Wise, exclusives are everything if You want to keep your acosystem and sell hardware. Speciallly if You have great IPs like Sony and Nintendo.

That's my issue. I double dipped on Returnal cause I didn't have this PC at the time.
I was planning to wait on Saros until it comes to PC, but if this is true, PS5 it is.
Yeah, I hate it, I've double dipped on so many games. Today I'm not wasting my first playthrough on what is essentially a lowend device in my household. But if I know the Pro is the highest end device the game will be on, then cool, day 1. That's how I deal with Nintendo's games.

I need official statements on all this. Rumors isn't enough.

What were your thoughts on Tsushima?

Sorry I missed your message. I think Tsushima was fantastic and had a lot of potential. It was repetitive too in some ways but I had a blast playing it and I thought it was a strong foundation for a new IP. I found Yotei to be a downgrade in terms of writing, story and even the open world as well

Weren't they responsible for Horizon remastered? They did a good job and there's a literal treasure trove of old stuff that could use similar treament and they'd have projects for decades. Of course I could have said the same about Bluepoint...Sony doesn't inspire too much confidence these days when it comes to making the right decisions but one could hope.
Maybe that's why BluePoint was let go? Nixxes have more value than BluePoint?

Doubtful there'll be any official announcement for you. We'll only know by the continued absence of non multi-player/gaas ports

yurinka yurinka I can't wait to read your post about this.
I don't have anything to add already said in the other threads about this topic: just with what they already have announced, 2026 is going to be by far the year with more Sony PC releases, and 2027 will have even more. Plus they have signed deals with PC release for Star Wars KOTOR Remake, Spider-Man and Wolverine/X-Men games, and recently announced Death Stranding 2 and Kena 2.

Off-PS revenue makes almost half of their first party revenue, which is like twice as big as it was before the PC+GaaS push initiated by Shawn Layden and Yoshida, and Sony stated PC has for them a huge ROI and that is helping grow their console userbase with new to PSN users instead of stealing users, something backed by the data they share every quarter.

Due to budgets almost doubling every generation, SP AAA games without DLC nowadays need to sell around 8M to be profitable, and will be way more the next gen. So specially next gen will need extra revenue and profit from PC ports, GaaS, mobile spinoffs, off-gaming adaptations if they want to continue having SP AAA games that aren't the mainline entries of their top seller IPs. To get money from more places, not from less.

The PC port of Yotei and Saros may take a bit longer than usual because they may already have too busy PC releases roadmap for 2026 & 2027 with the previously announced PC (plus maybe one or two more, like the Team LFG game) releases, most of them day one and GaaS.

On top of this, Sony apparently has been working for some years in their own PC store and launcher. If they release it, they will obviously want to have their SP games there.

I think the main reason for this is because Sony are worried that the next Xbox console, rumoured to be a console / PC hybrid, will have access to PlayStation games. I don't think this decision, if it is even true, is just about the PC.

Whatever, while I am a little disappointed that I may not be able to play future PS5+ games on my PC with better visuals and framerates, it would justify my reason for owning a PlayStation console, which I am more than happy to do as long as they continue to release compelling single player games.

yea, one outlier doesn't make you a liar when you have multiple correct reportings over a long period lol
Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus. He blew his credibility as far as I'm concerned when he chose 'owning the chuds' as his priority. You do you though, it's fine by me.

So you should be happy then, right?

No big deal...

It definitely isn't a big deal, because these games weren't exactly making us drop our pants in the first place.
Lukewarm sales at best should tell you all you'd need to know about how highly anticipated these "quadruple A exclusives" were in general.

It doesn't mean that is a positive news, because it's a regression for the market.
The concept of exclusive tied to one specific hardware requirement (and NOT legitimated simply by the constrains of hardware capabilities) was and still is garbage to begin with.
It's not a coincidence that with impressive consistence it's always the mouth-breathing brand fanboys who are drooling over the concept. and/or crying their eyes out over the loss of ammunition for list wars.

This is dumb, PC bros aren't gonna buy a PS5 so Sony is just gonna end up losing revenue and relevancy from not having their first party games reach a wider audience.
I imagine when the figures come in they'll go back to PC sharply, it's probably down to the next Xbox basically being a PC I would guess.

I care more about it being in my Steam library and going with me pc to pc. Plus I'm doing Steam family sharing so I like contributing.

The better performance on my pc is secondary to that for me.
