[Bloomberg] Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC (Ghost of Yotei port and other internally developerd games scrapped)

"according to people familiar with the company's plans"

Schreier has legit sources. It's more likely he's right than wrong here.
Does this sound certain to you?
Jason: I do. I do and I mean even if they don't, we are seeing Wolverine is coming in September 15th, and that's not coming to PC its coming to PlayStation 5 only.

Kirk: You don't think that'll come to PC?

Jason: I wouldn't be surprised if it never came to PC, but even if it does you have a strong idea of what that is and that you need a PlayStation to play it at least for the indefinite future.

This is not about PC players buy a PS5. Simply is Sony realizing this strategy is only getting PS5 players (now former PS5 players) buying a PC
Those people were just hiding in the closet trying to deny their lustful desires for PC gaming or they were broke and could only afford a PS5 at the time.

No real console gamer is gonna trade the simplicity of a PS5 for the RGB chaos of PC gaming.

Thanks MS. (n) it is pretty safe bet that this is directly in response to MS marketing XBOX PC. oh well I only really wanted games like Spiderman and wolverine anyway. I can still play those on my ps5 pro.

I don't rely on social media opinions to form my views. I prefer to judge things for myself based on what I see and hear. In my opinion, the game does show some elements that feel woke even if it's not as egregious as other games

One of the main points for me is the protagonist. She's portrayed with a very strong, assertive attitude, and at times it feels like the male characters around her are written to appear weak by comparison. That dynamic stands out a lot throughout the game. We have seen the same pattern with other woke games

I also question the historical realism. A female samurai single handedly defeating large numbers of men in that time period doesn't feel especially believable to me. I don't have any issue with women as main characters, that's not the problem. My concern is more about how the character is framed and whether it fits the setting in a convincing way.

Saying there are absolutely no woke elements at all seems dismissive. Even if people disagree, I think it's reasonable to acknowledge that some aspects of the game can be interpreted this way

You seem to have trouble with short term memory my friend. I remind you that I rented the game and played it at launch. So i know first hand what this game has to offers
It's a game, it's not historically accurate, men didn't kill hundreds of people like you do in the game.
She's not a samurai.

After this dogshit gen there was no way I was going to buy a PS6 anyway. I'll just skip the 1-2 games per gen that I might want to play from them.

This is the right choice as a platform owner. I bet this decision was made based on the next Xbox being a PC. If you want to keep your platform relevant, you need exclusives. Sucks for me as i already moved to PC as my main gaming platform, but i also feel im not missing much based on this gen 1st party output. Outside of the next Gran Turismo, that still might come to PC, thers nothing i want to play thats coming from a Sony 1st party studio.

This was obvious with the launch of the steam console and xbox likely having steam support for the next generation.

Theres more value in keeping the exclusives in the long term on PS5 only, with possibly PC releases way down the line (3-5 years).

My guess is that they will do this and stick to it for now until PS6 is 3 years old and has sold really well. And then they will have Nixxes start back up like they did this gen. Rinse and repeat every gen.

So their exclusives will help them sell consoles for launch and years later, then as they prepare for the next next gen they eek out more sales for their older games on PC.

PC gamers were never huge fans of Sony's singleplayer experiences.
Honestly, it feels that way, most of them just wanted the option but never really cared that much, well to be fair to them, the quality went downhill these last few years, that's why PCMR only keep begging for Bloodborne and nothing else, when even PS5 users can't have an updated version :pie_roffles:

For most it'll be a nothing of value was lost, for Sony who knows, they probably crawl back when their GAAS failures piling up force them to go third party once and for all, lmao

The thing is unlike you, I actually play games. Even if there are some woke elements, I can still give them the benefit of the doubt that's why I have an opinion because I play

You don't play nothing and just post shit to attack people and create fights

You are a terrible user in GAF

Sony just doesn't want their singleplayer games played on the inevitable Xbox PC.
Too bad Nixxes will be the one to suffer from this move. After porting live service games, they'll have nothing left to do.

same here. PC is my preferred platform and I was excited about Sony bringing first party games to PC, but I've bought a whopping 3 of them ever (Horizon ZD, Ratchet & Clank, and Returnal). I'll survive if I have to buy a Sony game on PS5 instead of PC once every couple of years.

Although it sounds like this is more about the cold hard reality that their single player games just don't sell all that well on PC. If PlayStation Studios were dominating the Steam charts then there's no way Sony would pull the plug.

A faction within PlayStation has also expressed concern that releasing their games on PC risks damaging the console's brand and will hurt sales of the PlayStation 5 and its successors, according to the people familiar with Sony's inner workings

You're telling me not following Xbox off a cliff is a good idea?

I'm here to call out fake people like you.

Common papito win. It's woker than a kid on Christmas morning.
I've yet to see anyone give any credible reason why, but that's not very surprising as the game was labelled woke at its reveal because reasons and some people have just stuck to their guns. I personally didn't see anything that would raise even an eyebrow after 50 hours, but maybe some of you were convinced by that fake ending some grifters were "leaking".

Whatever you think about the quality of Sony's output this gen, this is a smart move.

A brand that loses it's identity is doomed to fail. Exclusive content is absolutely necessary to keep a platform afloat.

Pretty much everything that I am interested in is multiplatform nowadays, so it doesn't matter to me.

I won't have any problems buying a PlayStation console again for exclusives if I wish to play them.

It's Schreier again, the guy who was certain Veilguard was a huge success. I'd wait for Sony to comment before rushing out and buying a PS5.
Would Sony comment on something like this? They communicated early on that not necessarily every game would be coming to PC and that they'd evaluate games individually. Not releasing games anymore was always a possibility.

Well, he finally wrote the article. This feels way more definitive than I expected.

Even if PC-only players won't like it, this is good news for PlayStation's consistency, identity, and content strength, especially if ports weren't selling that well anyway. From the start, Sony should've looked more at Nintendo on this instead of Xbox.

Either way, it paints an interesting future for PlayStation going back to platform-first content. With a PC hardware crisis possibly coming, if they keep console prices reasonable now and for future PS systems, that could be a killer position to be in.

Dismissive of false claims, yes. Neither a male or female could accomplish what either Jin or Atsu did. There is no "historic realism" in either game. If I'm going to call out woke, which I have plenty of times, then it has to be something more than references to women with a "very strong, assertive attitude". Tomb Raider says hi. Veilguard and some of the shit in Spider-man 2.....absolutely. Yotei. No.

You seem to have trouble with short term memory my friend. I remind you that I rented the game and played it at launch. So i know first hand what this game has to offers

My mistake. I recall you were debating it at the time due to the circumstances around the game. I was as well.

Brother you think you know me but you dont know shit about me. Since I am posting here on GAF i am always fully transparent about what I play, think and everything I say here is just me being real

In the meantime there is nothing in your posting history suggesting that you play shit or bring any sort of productivity to this place.

I encourage anyone to looks at your post history just so they can see what an awful and toxic individual you are

I mean as a PC gamer I'm definitely a bit sad about this considering I do love story focused single player games. On the other hand, last few of their games like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarok, Spiderman 2 etc I didn't like at all. Last game of theirs I liked was Last of Us 2 and Miles Morales. Their sequels have been very lacking.

I also think that new Xbox being a PC hybrid probably had something to do with this decision.
I can't see Sony caring about Magnus in the slightest. I don't think it will even release, but if it did, you're looking at an incredibly niche machine that will sell in the thousands, not millions.

Series is barely a threat to them, Magnus certainly wouldn't be.

This is down to not making the profit on PC ports that they were hoping to get.
Considering they can sell crazy amounts on console, they can afford to scrap this side gig.

A shame, as I like to revisit their games on PC later on with better hardware and some PC qol extras.
