Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

When you beat the game, the main menu changes and it plays a quite melancholic version of the credits theme...
It actually made me cry. It reminded me of the 30 years Resident Evil is now part of my (gaming) life.. I really got into gaming with Resident Evil 1. On the PS1. And now I'm sitting here, 3 decades later, after countless sequels and spinoffs and remakes. And I still love Resident Evil like on the first day.
Silly me! 😅
Sorry, but I wanted to share that sad/happy moment!

I finally finished….this exceed my expectations, I think it's one of my favourite RE game.

I usually don't want to another playthrough very soon but I want to jump back right away with this game.

As of right now 60% through I'd put it below 2 and 4 and slightly better than 7 and Village.

I'm pretty mixed on it as well. Certainly better than 7 and 8...I have a feeling it will be at the bottom end of RE games that I enjoy. I just finished the first major Leon sequence and it's really dragged my opinion down.

+Love the axe finishers
+Love the throwable weapons
+It's chainsaw time
+Skyscraper windows
+Unique zombies
+Blood collection/crafting mechanic
+Hemolytic injector
= Grace's main section level design is mostly good, albeit often predictable.
=Leon's axe needing to be sharpened kind of feels unnecessary outside of chainsaw encounters
=Zombies with guns is never a great idea, but it kind of makes sense as a mechanic to slow you up in one section
=I'm getting a lot of TLOU vibes from the level design for Leon's campaign
-Grace's movement combined with the Zombie magnetism are a tad annoying
-Grace's character is overly timid which makes her boss an even bigger asshole for the assignment
-Music stingers triggering in Graces section when you see a zombie even if they haven't noticed you
-Leon's character weight feels too lumbering which is super noticeable when doing quick vaults up or jumping off an obstacle
-The new mutated zombies are kind of lackluster
- Zombies as a whole feel a little too spongy which is fine in Grace's section, but a little annoying in Leon's
-Motorcycle
-Leon's combat music is terrible
-The RE4 castle tribute combat scenario is a little on the nose
-The intro to Raccoon City is so drab. It fits thematically, but still, it reminds me of the 360 era color palette that memes are written about.
-The new vendor
-The weapon upgrade system

It's a good game, looks bonkers on Switch 2. Really amazing.

It's an 8 for me.

Nothing really surprised me or shocked me, all by the numbers kind of experience. Would've liked more color, yes I know it's RE but you can still bring some interesting environments that are not so one note.

The parry mechanic seemed either broken or I was very bad at it :)

Maybe I don't want classic RE? I'd remove durability from all games if I could. Don't watch other people play games either.

Then don't play the obviously classic RE inspired game?

You only got the pew pew RE because it got popular as a survival horror in the first place.

You are bad at it cause that thing is the most op mechanic in a RE game.

Have you beaten the game yet?

Read if you have:

The second hatchet you can get after beating Hunk is weaker but has a bigger parry window.
I already beat it, and didn't use it. Wish I knew. It's ok, I still managed.

But yeah, gfx on Switch are incredible. Makes MP4 a joke.

Replaying Village now, it will be my 3rd run through the game, doing it on Village of Shadows difficulty. Coming straight from RE9 it's even more apparent just how much of a departure this is for the series. While the former is more of a 'Greatest Hits' Village is a different beast entirely, CAPCOM deserves credit for trying something new but it has the adverse effect of *not* feeling like RE, could have easily been called something else.

Shoutout to Ethan though, ya boy is getting mutilated every 5 minutes lol. Including the shenanigans in 7 it's fair to say no RE protagonist has been through as much shit as he has.

Holy shit. I'm in love with this game!

I just Reunited with Leon at the big door with orange lighting everywhere and paused the cutscene for the night. I'll pick it back up in the morning and probably finish it up before lunch as I can't imagine there is too awfully much left.

I got so fucking excited to see MY BOY FUCKING HUNK HOLY SHIT LETS FUCKING GO MOTHERFUCKER. That boss fight was hype as fuck. I know he's not a pivotal character really overall but I've always thought Hunk was so damn cool and I got so excited that I stood up right after killing him. It's been so long since I got so excited during boss fight like that. I think the last time was one of the fights in FFXVI
Don't worry

Our boy isn't dead, you can check the room by going back from save room, he will be gone unlike other bodies still laying around.

To be fair Ethan is no longer human at that point, he died immediately at beginning of RE7 and turn in to mutated mole monster.

Not the point, if dude want to use cheat to enjoy his $70 game let him do it, dont come saying that the game is not for him just cause he dont wanna play the "hardcore way".
That's the beauty of PC, once you've bought it the code is running on your machine and you can change the files within your own capabilities. But, to be fair, complaining about RE's survival horror is how we reached RE6. So, let's also exercise self-awareness and realize if we need a game to change its identity to please us, perhaps we don't enjoy the game to begin with.

Tbf this game ( at least Leon's segments ) are not far from RE6, mainly all RC segment.

And Grace segments are barely survival since you have lots of resources that ll never let you feeling like you are fucked.

So, ppl glazing this game up wouldnt be good for the franchise by your logic.

Just finished it. Its a 7.5 for me

There is just something about iit that didnt click with me.

I much preferred Village, 4 Remake, and 2 remake. Even 7 arguably.

I'd say its a worthy entry into the series but it would probably be bottom half in a best resi evil game list.

Of course the last thing players need is to carry a child on a care center full of zombies while being unable to attack and after learning that zombies killed without blowing their head off will mutate

1. Clear the way first if having trouble

2. You can run past everything

Oh shoot is that him? I mean it looks like him but so did the Special Forces guys in general, what's the confirmation that that is who that is?

They don't outright say it but ..

same voice actor from his RE2make appearance, he does an exact same head snap animation as the RE4make Hunk and his commentary like he's heard of Leon etc. Plus he also has the RCS infection signs on his hands, so he's a Raccoon City survivor.

Having absolutely loved RE7 and RE8, the second half of RE9 is one of the worst things I've played in quite a while. It felt like I was back in 2011 playing an Xbox 360 game. The structure and design are so, so bad. It's just random, over-the-top stuff for the sake of it. Fuck that. Give me more mansions.

Yeah I felt the same.

In 8 you fight a man with magnetic superpowers while you pilot a small tank with a chainsaw, machine gun, and rocket launcher.

I guarantee you that if wasn't for Leon lots of ppl would be talking shit about those action sequences.

I don't think it's all that bad. Is it as good as RE2 style gameplay or even 4 ? Nope, but not awful. I enjoyed it well enough but I do question the design decisions with Leon in some cases for sure. I enjoyed the 3 pieces area overall.

You forget the most obvious sign, the mask, only HUNK wears a mask like that, no one else.

And it was an awesome boss fight way better than parry mrx2.0 for five minutes and shoot his heart till dead or run and shoot this spider in this corridor.

Don't care

Criticizing one for being over the top and ignoring it in the other doesn't help your argument.

Finally done with it. I think RE4R is my highest rated RE game at about 8.6/10 so in comparison with that I'd say Requiem is for me almost at the same level with my only big negative being that it was too damn short. IMO it needed another two big places for both leon and grace and then that final area. People cry a lot about not wanting bloat, but the quality of the game was fantastic that it absolutely wouldnt have hurt more of it. As is ,the final area was a bit underwhelming and reminded me of RE3R. Visually fantastic with PT, tho the stutters kinda ruined it. Impressive animations and the big areas for both characters were decent enough designed, tho nothing better than we've played. I just want more Leon now more than ever and it'll suck until the next big RE game. I guess it's an 8.5 from me.

Oh shit, for real? That actually makes me happy. I was hyped to fight him but sad to kill him.
It's even more obvious on insanity mode, because right after the fight his unit storms in and after killing them and coming back here, only Hunk is missing, while the other bodies still lie there.

rPlus he also has the RCS infection signs on his hands, so he's a Raccoon City survivor.
Fuck, how did I miss that lol. Do you have a screenshot of that?

Leon carries, for sure. I thought the design in a couple of the encounters in Raccoon City was awesome. Don't want to spoil them, but they change things up in a fun way. I wish there was more of that, to be honest.

RC dragged a bit, but I think that's more due to me taking suboptimal routes and going for all the backtracking, gatekept spots for items that weren't all that worth it.

This is why we have yellow paint on every interactable surface in video games.

I actually died on my first attempt there, but I did go straight to the doors to pry them open, but just mistimed I guess. Another stupid moment of mine was When Mr X smashes the broken metal pipe thing through the wall, I thought I was safe standing at the door way, but nope, he ripped me apart haha

Had some other silly moments too, but was able to laugh at them rather than being frustrated.

Haven't encountered this yet. Funny.

Yeah, that video shows it better I'm glad I didn't switch to the shotgun with a strap. I hope they fix it. Playing that part with my girls who enjoy watching me play through the RE games is immersion breaking lol. I might stick to pistol, shotgun, and Requiem until it's fixed.

I tried to get the Cat Got Your Tongue achievement several times with Leon's hatchet and couldn't get it. Got it first try using Hunk's hatchet

To be honest i didnt mind the RC bits at all. In fact gameplay reminded me alot of 4 Remake. A little too much fan service if anything but i thought RC was cool.

i do agree the game needed at least 1 more big location that takes a few hours to get through. Its like the care centre felt similar length to the castle in Village (maybe a little longer), the difference with Village though is had 3 more major locations, and the village itself to explore.

The game felt short even though i dont think its that much shorter than 7 or Village. In fact it might even be a bit longer than 7. It felt short though.

Yeah fighting zombies and like one Blister Borne in a PS3 era environment and nothing else is just a steep decline.

First half of the game is a 9 for sure.

I got a few trophies left and then I have the Plat.

Surprised more people aren't calling out the limited weapon and upgrade options from the supply box. There were what, 2 choices per weapon type? And only 2 upgrades for each weapon stat? This was a huge low point. Most of the time there was an OBVIOUS weapon to go buy, and the upgrades could be maxed very quickly. The mechanic almost felt like an afterthought.
