Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Finished the game and got the good ending. The last area was good with good graphics too.

Pros:
  • Grace's Gameplay Segments
  • Graphics in Most Areas (Path Tracing especially)
  • Atmosphere
  • Sound Design
  • Character Models
  • Cinematics
  • "The Girl" design and usage
  • Story
  • Emily as a Character and her Impact in the Story
  • Basement Level - Loved the atmosphere here
Cons:
  • Leon's Gameplay Segments (Detonators, Mass killing zombies like an arcade shooter, etc)
  • Raccoon City and Outskirts Graphics and Artistic Direction
  • Kill Score System
  • Poor writing of Grace's Character (Start to Midgame)
  • Pacing at times (Care Centre level with Grace is too long, Leon with Detonators is too long, etc)
  • Didn't care for any RPG elements (various guns, attachments, crafting, etc).
The ending delivered for me mainly because Emily got saved. Was disappointed with her loss mid-game so really happy to get that happy ending. I enjoyed Grace's gameplay segments and disliked Leon's. While I think I would have preferred to only have Grace's gameplay, the switching between characters breaks the monotony and gives the player a break, so it's likely a positive effect for the game.

Overall, a good enjoyable game. I am not sure I'd be keen on the next RE if it goes in the direction of Leon's gameplay, but if they keep it like Grace's then I'd be keen.

Weird take. The Grace part can be extremely annoying. The stealth mechanic are too exasperated. Sure there are some cool ideas in the gameplay design but is too focused on stealth and sometimes you have to improvisate too much to reach some point. Potentially the Grace session could be more interesting of the Leon part, but the execution is not so good.

I only like listening to him when it's about Alien franchise. That's something you can tell he is passionate about. Everything else he just glazes every Capcom game.

Of the Shills I'm waiting for Sphere Hunter's real review.

What I would tweak is:
- Reduce "invincible stalker" to absolute minimum for entire game, let along individual areas. Very sparse usage
- Always have a way for Grace to survive via defending herself (so enough ammo, melee weapon, etc)

That should be good imo. I don't want Leon's arcade shooter nonsense though.

Always have a knife on you

They put Dino Crisis 2 in your Resident Evil.

Exentryk Exentryk I never really ran into much of a poor ammo economy since breaking certain vases has scrap underneath them and you decide whether you craft Hemalytics or Handgun ammo. Requiem Ammo is pretty much your get out of jail free card. Kills almost anything in one hit and stunlocks the only Stalker enemy in the game. Making them harmless as long as you have Requiem ammo.

I don't understand why we can't temporarily kill stealthy the enemies with the knives. For the bigger and tougher ones the knife should use just to hurt slightly and trying to escape to them.

Don't waste scrap on knives, there's basically enough knives in the game that you should never run out of them; if you're trying to stab zombies for some reason, just avoid them instead, or just hit them with an injector if you really need them to be out your way.

I just found idiotic you can't hit them with the knives stealthy.

She was sent to investigate the building where her mother was murdered with a potential disease being the reason of the current body. She should have an escort at the LEAST, in case something weird happens.

Honestly, if I was Grace and I survived, the first thing I would do was go back to work and shoot my boss on the head.
That was the Cop wasn't it

I am more so talking in general for what I'd prefer in a horror game. Like having a melee weapon that is 100% always available guaranteed (no crafting, no durability, nothing), and that killing with that should also not become tedious. What this does it at least empowers the player and they don't feel helpless, which is what a lot of people complain about in these stealth segments. So you can stealth if you want, but also fight your way through if you prefer.

This keeps the tension while still letting the player "handle" the situations in their own way.

probably because grace isn't strong/ruthless enough to penetrate the skull to damage the brain well enough with a makeshift knife, it's why the injector exists, just use that if you absolutely need a kill, otherwise just walk past them, or even run away, the zombies aren't stalkers and lose interest fast enough even if they spot you.

I unironically prefer The Killing Antidote. You have multiple weapons alongside melee weapons and generally have an escape option with knives if an enemy grabs you with the exception of maybe one enemy that can 1-2 shot you with a devastating lunge attack that must be dodged or interrupted.

And you can retrieve your knives after a kill.

So, there's a locked door in the Kitchen during Grace's section. Let me guess, you have to take down the butcher in order to get the key?

Remember when Claire could remove legs with a knife ? Now Grace is to weak of a person to even stab a rotten corpse for major damage, also, she is strong enough to open a stuck elevator door, but too weak to pierce skulls.

The reasoning of some here is beyond retarded even for a gaming forum.

I gotta agree with that Capcom simp take from Maximillian Dood. I somewhat tolerate his content but he can't be impartial when it comes to anything Capcom, or the FF7 Remake trilogy.

Now, for what matters. I finally beat the game and beyond some reused stuff like the final boss fight, I enjoyed the game wholeheartedly. Not that I don't recognize many of its glaring flaws.

First, the game only holds as a horror game in the first Grace segment where is totally powerless against most enemies due to her slow movement speed, lack of ammo to deal with more than 2 enemies at a time, and the pursuer girl. Basement section is very straight forward and not scary at all as you can ran past enemies and go to the safe room if things get hairy. The more you play with her, the easier things get, especially if you get a few of the health and gun upgrades. Atmosphere is top notch though. Just wished there were more horror in general.

Leon fucking S. Kennedy. His segments are just over the top as I wanted. Lots of obligatory combat section, and I loved every single second of it. I was mowing down zombies so effectively with him that I was running at the problem of having too much ammo, scraps, and hand grenades. All of this because his infinite use hatchet makes super easy to keep ammo reserves. I can't wait to start my insanity playthrough.

For glaring issues. The game has terrible pacing at times. Everything after the care center becomes a lot of Leon centric, but then the final Grace segments are a nothing burger tbh. Reused Nemesis and Mr. X doesn't sit well with me at all. That was plain lazy game design with asset reuse. And the Zeno stuff, and even Victor, are meh villains. What intrigues me is the Simmons mention and the whole post-story stuff that alludes to a Chris DLC.

I see what they are trying to build with RE9 and the RE story as a whole moving forward. I hope all of the government conspiracies and stuff get tied up to Rose and Grace making future appearances. We need to get a "mask off" moment of Umbrella controlling the whole government in the next major installment.

I'm glad that Capcom actually included a toggle for Lens Dirt, the worst visual effect ever... but they sadly did not include a toggle for Film Grain, something they had present in both RE2R and RE3R. Thank god for mods
Or 1 Hemolytic Injector :messenger_smirking:
Yeah, Requiem on the Chef is a waste of ammo - that's three Blister Heads you can permanently remove from the map.

Chunk, on the other hand, is the exact opposite: it took SIX THREE injectors to kill him so it's better to use Requiem, or just avoid him entirely if you don't want/need the charm he drops

Do you have to beat the game after grabbing the doll or is it enough just to dump it in your box and it will be there on fresh NG save?

You need to complete the game and have it in your item box for the new game. Then have it in your inventory in the next game. By the time you get it the first time, you can't go back to the sun/moon/star puzzle area, which is where the final step of the puzzle is.

So I'm gonna just put it out there, best Resident Evil since 4, and 4 is the black sheep.
This fits perfectly with the original Trilogy, 0 4 and Code Veronica.
If you loved those games, this is what it is.
Great Job Capcom.

Its funny, if you dose Chunk up with 3 hemolytic injectors, all of his body fat drains away lmao

Man, I wondered if it was possible to do this, but I ended up
pumping 3 rounds of Requiem into him. He leaks out all his fluids during his death animation though.
