Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Leon is bad ass gameplay. But to be honest nothing we didn't experience in TLOU and the such. And suddenly you are racking up points in the campaign... like wha?

I like how they made Grace gameplay this very slow, deliberate and immersive thing, but with Leon they just went balls to the wall by pulling off the video gamiest shit there is with those points and suplexing giant spiders or whatever.

But I like the game for it. If there is something I had hoped for, is that maybe the different chapter lengths would have been balanced a bit better. At the first half the Leon chapters are basically just short flashes and you just think "that was it?" meanwhile you spend an eternity in the care center area. And the balance gets thrown off again by giving more space and time for Leon on the second half.

The highest difficulty is stupid and unfun. Enemies are bulletsponges and take too long to react to headshots. OG RE4 on Proffesional was THE shit, but these morons can't replicate that without mikami.

Game is much better than 6,7 and 8 but not sure if i love the continue change of pacing between leon and dolly face, i would have prefered a game with a single style or 2 campaigns separated.

With maxed out blue steroids grace aim is far faster than leon that has to wait 2 weeks between shoot to wait for the reticle to get smaller for max damage.

Thank god i finally unlocked the thing that make the reticle always smaller without waiting, now the lore is correct again :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Btw if i finally reached the "city" with leon, how much do i have left?

Talkative zombies, with human patterns and scary lines are a fantastic way to refresh things in my opinion.

Specially because each zombie acts differently.

The fucking cleaning lady, when she grabs you she scurbs your face, while saying "cleeeaan"

The nutjob one on the east wing, with the IV thing, if you break a jar comes running at you like a madman, screaming for the noise to stop and go away.

It's fantastic.
One of the best things in the game, yeah.

I love how Grace's hands get less shaky and more steady as you progress through the campaign. Showing and not telling is one of the best forms of storytelling/characterization.

Not that I expect Shakespeare writing from a Resident Evil game, but I like how Capcom is portraying Grace as a character who is clearly not meant to be Claire 2.0 - in every way that matters. And that makes her her own person.

Finally reached Raccoon City. I must say this is one of the prettiest 'destroyed city' graphics I've ever seen.

There's also this office lady you encounter in a corridor who constantly says 'I'm sorry' as you shoot her, possibly indicating an employee who had little confidence in herself and was constantly apologizing for not being good enough at her job, or maybe bullied by her supervisor as he constantly talked down to her.

Zombies in older RE games were spooky mooks. Now, each has the potential to tell a story.

I loved the dude saying you are fired while killing his secretary :lollipop_squinting:

I just want to mention that the game looks surprisingly great in the Rog Ally X OG. Even limited at 17w and Low settings (using FS3) it might be the best looking game I've played in the system.

That's the new T Virus, if you read the notes it'll explain that the new Virus retains traits of the subject, but once in Raccoon City they are not entertaining, just regular T-Virus.
Which makes sense

So i guess no more blister heads since they are not being hit by the new t-virus...

Or they maintain that for gameplay purposes?

They need to do mod an ass on her aswell, bitch is flatter than a zombie ECG :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

3:40 ish, got hella confused a few times and forgot what to do but it was enough

Yeah, got the job done is what counts. I was completely in the zone, by that 3rd playthrough I had everything mapped in my head, knew what the optimized routes were etc. Plus I already had infinite ammo unlocked so I didn't need to waste time picking up anything really.

The garage part...

You think this is funny Capcom?

As anyone been able to put the noise nutjob in the same room with the singing lady? If they went the extra mile and make him hit her because of the noise she makes...

yep, awful shit experience and left a sour taste

I totally agree here, because Requiem is essentially a best-off album that doesn't stand on its own feet. It leans heavy on the nostalgia from the first three RE games.
Ironically RE4, RE7 and RE8 who had nothing to do with Racoon City, are the ones that have the most personality and charm.
I had similar problems with 8 - too little tension, genre mix feels artificial, why the hell is everything happening during day, etc.

However, at least Village had unique atmosphere. While there is just no mood in Requiem. Using light and dark for the big stalker is the best idea they've had and that's like less than one fifth of the game.

I think it would be amazing if they eventually added a Mercenaries mode. I'd easily sink a ton of hours into it just to fully enjoy the gunplay and those satisfying animations

sadly the game never reach this level of quality again, even Grace's Care Center segment feels downgraded from Leon's, after that the quality take a nose dive.

So this has been getting an insanely positive reception, what about it makes it so much better than lets say RE7 or 8?

(Or the remake of RE4 even)

I feel like the first gif has the dna of what their online open world game that was cancelled. And raccoon city felt like to me of them flirting with an open world re but chose not to go that path. The raccoon city section felt like TLOU lite. I think if they took a big risk with an open world re they'd do it justice.

for some having Leon on it and third person already make their pants wet, i mean it already make the game better.

its basically "veteran" simping, 7 and 8 ( mainly 7 ) are better games and way more atmospheric imo

The transition from the first part to the second part of the game - from a focus on Grace to a focus on Leon - was initially a letdown but I think it is because the rhodes clinic is such a great location. Racoon city is a wasteland and boring in comparison to the lights and colors in the first part of the game.

And the combat is pretty relentless and it feels like hard work sometimes lol. I wiped a bunch of times especially going into the base with manned cannons. Finding that last hidden launcher dude, god damn.

It feels like Capcom knew they were going to RPD and how that looked but then figured they needed one more section to lengthen the game and designed the outer city area with the 3 parts for the bomb and the gas station. It just feels a bit lazy the way the mission is designed, and the area looks uninspired compared to the first. But it may well be intentonal, to make the city look that wasted. Lighting is great. And the combat is awesome you get used to the switch to Leon.
The three detonator fetch quest felt like padding.

Has anyone noticed that you arent actually sprinting? Its more like Jogging and really slow. Feels like the game was expected to be 1st person only.

Yeah, during the Racoon City part all I could do was wonder how the open world concept could make for a full RE game.

Intriguing for sure.

Did what? Waste two entries on a dog shit duology with werewolfs and Vampires that added nothing to the series.
You could play the whole series and easily ignore them.
The references even in Requiem are just easter eggs and unimportant.
There isn't it vampire or werewolf in RE7. Grace part remind me a lot RE7, it's just more stealthy (even too much for my tastes, some spots are extremely tiring and slow). Said that, never understood the hate for RE8. I find the gameplay excellent and paradoxically less confusing and more straigh to what it wanted to offer differently than the weird mixed bag they put in RE9.

The last area with Leon. But it's not universally recognised as the better one, if I can say. It's not a bad game absolutely.

Just went through Leon's section in the hospital. FUCKIN' WOW! How in the world have they done this? There's so much interactivity when you use melee attacks to hit multiple zombies at once, they're starting to bump into various objects in the room and each other while trying not to fall in the process and it's all excellently animated. And the chainsaw?

giphy.gif

You think you know what'll happen cuz you've been through fights like this in 2 versions of RE4 and RE5 but.... YOU KNOW NOTHING! Imagine shit like this in the original RE4 during the first fight with the chainsaw dude back in 2004 on the GameCube. HOLY FUCK! I restarted this fight a few times and it always plays out differently. You think you killed the zombie with the chainsaw but no, he just falls to the foor but the chainsaw is still working, dragging him with it across the room until he'll stand up to try and kill you again. What a MASSIVE and incredible upgrade over what we saw and experienced before in original and remake of RE4, JFC. And RE5... it feels looks like a kindergarten now ✋ :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not looking, because I don't wanna see spoilers, but the
Shadow Ghost introduction and encounter
is pretty much in my top 5. Freaked me out.

add nothing to the series = revived the series

RE was pretty much done after 5 - 6, Capcom lost their mojo and the franchise was mocked for the "Michael Bay" level of insanity action, RE7 brought RE back to scary and survival horror BUT, ppl were too soft and too scared by the game and that was the reason given to make RE8 more action oriented. Also RE8 links to RE lore in general.

Also 7 and 8 are great games for starting and ending a fucking story line, not taking 30 years and we are still on T-Virus Umbrella shenanigans, i ll die and not see the end of RE og story line.

I died by accident on my first try, and the visual gore is insane and brutal. You expect something like a head chopped off, but the way they went with the chainsaw slicing Leon wide open feels way more brutal and impactful visually.

Everything up until you get to the meat of the Leon campaign is top-tier Resident Evil. It felt familiar yet still fresh. I don't mind the call backs to the old games, but sprinkle it in there, don't overdo it with member-berries at every turn.
The return to the RPD and the RE2 motif playing in the background was subtle and brilliant, as an example. The Leon campaign bosses were just too on the nose.

RE4 and RE4R are in my GOATs but even though RE9's combat was meant to be an evolution of it, for some reason, it didn't feel as smooth.

As per usual with RE games, the last 10% of the game just becomes a narrative mess.

Up until the end of the care facility, the game was an easy 9.5/10. After playing through it, now closer to a 8.5 or 9.

Overall, it's still leagues better than anything they've put out since OG4.

And on top of all that the game looks effin' stunning and runs incredibly well at 4K all maxed (high RT, no PT) with DLSS Quality. Easily the best looking RE Engine game to date after RE4. Ah, if only they could come back to RE2-3 remakes and update RE Engine to the current version, add modern RT, hair strands system, way better GI, AO etc. Also, character models are absolutely insane too, like, hot damn.

Okay, the 'find the detonator' arc is the weakest part of the game, mainly because navigating is a little confusing due to so many blocked/one-way routes and shortcuts galore. I must also admit that
the zombies constantly attacking me with the mortars was quite tedious, as it always is with every fucking RE game that does this shit, like RE4 and RE5. I mean, I can understand a zombie half-holding a machine gun and clumsily pushing the trigger as a reflex, but reloading, targeting and firing a mortar missile is too much of a complicated task for my suspension of disbelief to handle.
