Marathon Server Slam (Feb 26 - Mar 2) 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 π™Žπ™€ π™Šπ™«π™šπ™§ / π™’π™š'π™§π™š π™Žπ™€ π˜½π™–π™˜π™

My group didn't even realize until yesterday you can revive from full dead. We've had some crazy drawn out back and forth fights after realizing that.

....what? How? I've tried going up to bodies over and over again and no prompts have ever come up for me. That being said after a couple times I'll admit I just stopped trying and a lot of people just leave anyways.

yeah you can be revive after you give up. i gave up and "died" but the game said i could still be revive so i didn't exit the round and someone revived me. you can be revived while the give up wheel appears and after when you're just watching your team mates.

Yeah. I totally missed the server slam. I might be able to squeeze in some time tomorrow.

I am trying to download it now, but I am getting throttled.

There is a short timer, then you can res your teammates by their bag.

Again much like it's been stated over and over

There is a difference between disliking a game and having meaningful discussion about it, and whatever the fucking Chorizo over here is doing where he just driveway posts tweets and then when somebody calls him out for doing it for the 200th time he just says but I played the game and you guys don't care. Very few of his posts have anything meaningful to them or provide anything to discussion and all are negative. I'm not saying you can only say good things about something but if you really don't have anything at all constructive and you really are just going to shit on a game 24/7 then why are you spending so much time finding all these tweets just to post in a thread when you know it annoys people? It's to annoy people and troll them. He's not funny like @Spukc or bender bender though

The worst thing about Marathon is when you die 4 games in a row you have to see your cool characters pretending to be bad*** in the lobby.

B****, we suck!

8 hours in and this is really clicking for me now. Mopped up some lobbies with a green shotgun, even won two 1v3's already while my teammates were down. And I LOVE how you can rez people even after they are 'dead dead'. Losing your shit from someone looting your body is penalty enough and it makes matches so much more dynamic and fun.

Got some PHAT loot from these runs:

clarky clarky (or others): How do you get a better shield (V2)? Do any of the factions sell it from the armory once you are high enough rank with them? If so, which one?

Unsure mate. Ive never been short on green shields in the test. But i do believe you can by them from vendors once you level them up a bit. I've not focused much on the faction upgrades aside from vault space as its all getting reset tomorrow.

Easiest way in the test is just to kill other players.

Got a buddy to try it and we initially got dunked on as a 2 man group then we had some crazy clutch's on squads of 3.

We ran into a guy with purple shields and got rolled over. Fucking insane.

Shotguns are so strong and satisfying to use. Best weapon in the game so far

Couple randos I exfil'd with had $5k+ inventory

It's definitely not for everyone. Like the rest of the game, it's pretty divisive. I love it. It's not groundbreaking, it doesn't look cutting edge, but I think it's cool.
Fuck that. It's the most unique looking game on the market, and the use of audio with the crazy color spectrum makes you feel like you're tripping.

This game is art. Cool thing about art is not everyone likes the same art or can appreciate it due to Down syndrome.

Lvl 15 fuckkk so good I don't wanna stop playing. Just exploring and looting while having that feeling of possible danger around the corner is great.
The enviroments are really well done imo and I really like it when it's raining. Overall I think its pretty great both in the graphics and art department.

Some people were saying AI is easy? I don't get it... there's different difficulty levels to them. Some UESC are incredibly simple to kill (with the knife even) and others take some team work.
Also saw a lot of people complaining about lack of ammo but I think it's more of a management issue? I mean I'm constantly doing faction quests and getting those free kits and all of them have ammo crates.
At one point I even had to delete some ammo because I had so many in my vault and it got full

I hope the game is sucessfull because they have an amazing base game to start with. Not saying it's perfect but its definitely good!

The AI is anything but easy.

Amen to that.

I don't recall a AAA game in my memory that went this hard in one direction on all fronts.

Just had an awesome round with some randoms. I was Recon, one guy was Triage, and another Destroyer.

We had a long battle with another team inside a building in Overflow. Eventually some bots showed up too. It's down to just me vs one of their players who is also a Recon. I get hit by a grenade and then downed. It's over.
NOPE. I had forgotten I had a Self Revive and crawled into a the corner of the room as the last enemy player finished off the bots. I start the revive, and he starts to pick up his teammate. He has no idea and his back it towards me.

Like a scene out of a horror movie where the bad guy isn't dead and is rising up in the background. I fully revive myself take aim at the back of his head and mag dump his ass before he finishes reviving his buddy.
Enemy team and all bots in the area are dead. I simply revive my teammates and we begin looting.

Level 16 and only just now did an "activity" or whatever it's called. Was rather easy and not that inspired but the loot we got from that mid-match fetch quest was very nice. Purple and gold shenanigans. Good shit.

Rook has been fantastic. Much prefer using that when broke than using sponsor kits in a trio. A really nice change of pace too. Amazingly satisfying sneaking around and gathering loot before time expires

Rook is one of my favourite shells lol. I wish I could bring it into trios.

I think in the hours I've played so far on this server slam demo I really like the content - keen to learn more and skill up - and even enough to actually buy the game, now but my holdout problem is the PS+ sub requirement.

Konami showing the way with eFootball being free-online has me conditioned to expect all games to do the same. I did download the Steam demo to try too with free online, but I only got as far as needing to install a rootkit anti-cheat on a Β£300 motherboard, and said "balls to that!".

Hopefully they find a way to do a standalone Marathon game I can buy for this gaming fix in the future or drop the PS+ requirement. Shame, I could have seen myself dipping in on this game weekly in the same way Splatoon got me shooting online.

Can you just buy on PC instead?

The fact the topic about this game's CCU has more than half the posts that this topic has it's actually sad. People wanting for games to fail will never not be weird to me. Specially from a studio that has been specializing in these for decades.

Yes, but only if I'm prepared to install a rootkit level anti-cheat program on the PC motherboard which would cost +Β£300 to replace.

I'd need a dedicated gaming PC with cheap sub-Β£100 motherboard to accept installing such an intrusive and risky piece of software from some non-bona fide source.

People always extol the benefits of using PCs for more than just gaming, but that's the very reason IMO no one in their right mind would accept such security breach to play on PC.

Only played an hour because RE9 was eating up all my time. Dig the style but the main issue I have is that it doesn't seem viable for solo players which is a shame, game is begging for a kick-ass campaign, the world is compelling.

It is viable but you have to be more reasonable with your engagements.

Network:
"For competitive gamers, tick rate can matter quite a bit due to mechanical execution. As a more accessible game, ARC Raiders doesn't prioritize it as much, so it runs at a 20Hz tick rate (meaning that the server updates everyone's movements and actions twenty times per second). For the most part it does the job, but you can feel the latency sometimes.

Marathon improves upon this with a 60Hz tick rate, making it similar to Counter-Strike 2. This should provide for a smoother experience that will let the skillful players truly shine and decrease the likelihood of getting dropped behind walls."

Endgame:
"One of the main knocks against ARC Raiders is its lack of an endgame. It rolled out Stella Montis, a community-unlocked challenge map and that's about as close as it gets. Once your gear is maxed, you're mostly farming trials and using your gear in PvP or helping friends who are still progressing.

Marathon has a whole ranked system to climb along with faction ranks and eventually the Cryo Archive, which is a hardcore raid zone with tougher UESC enemies, puzzles, and big boss encounters."

I get why this doesn't matter for the Kumbaya Raiders, who are busy playing music and sharing loot in a social virtual experiment.

Marathon is for the competitive players. It won't have the same player numbers, cause it doesn't cater to whimsy flower power hippies who can't handle PvP engagements - and that's a good thing.

Well boys I'm done for this weekend. Was a fun time, can't wait for release. Ended with a meager 16k vault value but I've learned what I should focus on for the early release hours. I'll play the last of the few games that have my attention until Thursday, lol.

If a team of 3 spots you a decide they want to kill you (which is all but guaranteed) then it doesn't seem like you have much of a chance, losing acquired gear every single run doesn't sound "compelling" lol. I say this as someone who is usually in the top 10% in PvP focused games when I *do* decide to play them (CoD, Battlefield etc) but that's not the main draw for me here.

If you really are top 10% in pvp games then you probably won't lose your gear every single run

But you don't recognize the shitty behavior of bungie as of late? Genuinely curious

I've killed numerous teams by myself after my two mates got downed. Peeking from cover and well-placed shots get you really far - just like in CS.

If you're top 10% you can easily 1v3 in this game. TTK is ridiculously fast.

I gotta ask. Any sort of plot kicked in via contracts ?
I know not a lore game but also a Bungie game.
Lots of lore in the Faction screen and the codex.

Looks like ammo economy has been flagged. Played more solo today, there's way more available ammo in a solo run. So whatever update they do make, has to be only to trios.
Med and ammo economy: These two items have been a regular feedback item, and we're thankful to see your reports. Discussions about stack sizes, the efficacy of green-tier med items, and more opportunities for ammo to drop have been primary topics – but, our ears remain open. Keep sharing your experiences and please let us know what you brought into any runs where you feel like you're running dry.
