Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Dude wtf. I did everything in the care center but still havent used any of my coins and didnt upgraded my hp nor dmg because of the blood capacity despite already having 3 empty injector. Im watching a video now and i totally missed the coins upgrades in the roulette room wtf. So im basically now stuck without any of these upgrades with grace since i just left the center?

The upgrade system is strange in this game. I was weirded out when it became apparent that the coin system is gone after the care centre. And than late in the game to introduce a whole new upgrade system with currency points.

Man how did you skip that room? lol

How the fuck i missed it when i explored the whole place and collected everything...i have 5 save slots, when i get home i'll check if i have one right before i leave. I played like 30 min after that so if i have a good save i dont have to replay much.

So far this is a very, very VERY good RE game, definitely the best RE game out of the last three RE games, if you don't count the remakes.

At this point I want Capcom to remake ALL RE games with the RE Engine, I simply CANNOT play the old RE games anymore. Whenever I get to an encounter, my blood is pumping. Even fighting two zombies as Grace is a very suspenseful encounter. I have yet to play as Leon for a solid chunk of the game, but so far the Care Center with Grace is one of the best RE experiences I've ever had in terms of tension. Simply amazing stuff.

I didnt lol. I even played with the roulette. I explored everything and also collected everything, somehow i missed those 3 items

Feel like the difficulty is amped up a bit when you hit Raccoon City. You walk like ten steps and then there's a boss and then a bunch of Iron Maiden mascots pop out the ground and swarm you.

I had a blast. I'll most likely go back in for a second run soon to try out third person mode for Grace, and maybe insanity difficulty, if I can be bothered. There are stretches in this game that are incredible, and then others where it slightly loses its footing.

My biggest gripe is with Leon's gameplay segments, not that it doesn't co-exist structurally with Graces, but it felt unbalanced. Leon is just overpowered. I mauled everything that came my way. Having finished it, I kind of understand it from a narrative perspective, and how it reinforces some of the narrative themes and duality with Grace throughout, but it was so jarring at times. Grace's segments are pure survival horror bliss, and in first person mode I felt completely immersed.

The boss fights were underwhelming, if we can even call them that. I won't go into specifics due to spoilers, but they could've done more. Story wise, this had the potential to be the strongest entry in the series, but it just misses its mark one too many times. Some characters get solid groundwork that ultimately leads to nothing particularly interesting... a missed opportunity to set the bar.

Visually though. Gorgeous. Great art direction and colour palette throughout the game. The character models are also insanely good, might be the best I've seen this gen. Level design here is strong too, I loved Rhode Hill and ARK was also great to explore. I'd also praise the enemy variety, a lot of interesting ideas here and I loved how the ones at Rhode Hill had personality and character. Great shit.

Overall, gripes aside, I'd place this in my top 3 RE games. Astounding.

Been putting a few hours into it over the past couple days.

For better or worse, it feels almost identical to 7 and 8. If this was meant to be some kind of reinvention, it really doesn't land.

And for something that's being framed as a "farewell" to the series' legacy, it barely addresses any of the lingering plot threads. If anything, it just piles on more questions instead of resolving anything meaningful.

And I genuinely don't get the praise for Victor. Are we playing the same game? He comes off completely one-dimensional, and that snakeskin raincoat makes every scene he's in worse.

I'm only at Rhodes Hill, so maybe the story picks up, but at this point it's hard to care about new characters when the series already has such an established roster.

Starting to feel like Capcom thinks RE fans will just eat anything up without questioning it.
I found Victor one of the most memorable enemy and the story serviceable but I'm with you if you feel a bit letdown about the game. I know people will kill me for that, but I'm replaying actually RE8 contemporary and it's far better designed both in gameplay and in the enviroment, artistically (though I despise the story with all myself). RE9 has totally anonymous areas and the gameplay it's a mixed bag. It scream fanservice in the Leon session and I'm asking if it wasn't better risking more and try something different. Again I'm not to say is bad eh to be clear. Just not the fireworks I expected for final chapter and I don't think using spectacular scripted sequence it's the better way to say goodbye to your fans. MSG4 give me this lesson.

I actually like RE8 and the story and I'm not even finished with RE9 but nah after the castle the level design in RE8 is complete garbage. You just follow a straight line near enough.

Also just beat it, it said 11h30mins but steam says 17.5 hours, The usual RE time counter which does not take into account restarts/reloads. I really loved it although I still find RE4 remake Leon gameplay better. Grace's gameplay at care center was classical RE survival-horror, loved it. Will replay on insanity sometime later.

🤷‍♂️ Outside the factory area I still think it's very underrated to the RE fans. Me also have to finish RE9 but I doubt I will change my mindset.

The leon part in Raccoon City starts a bit slow but its gets better and better. It feels almost like another game

Grace's breathing sound byte is so annoying. It's the same constant sound byte that repeats all the time regardless of being in a tense situation or in a safe location.

Just finished care center with Grace.
I had 40 bullets left and killed the huge monster also!
Apparently I missed a locked drawer, I had one lockpick left... I did so many rounds...
I wish it had the old system where the rooms changed colour if you found everything.

Beginning is rough but after a bit the situation get much better when it comes to ammo economy.
🤔, just ignore who you don't absolutely have to kill and use injectors on everyone else, you can simply walk past a ton of enemies; at the end of the care center I had 8 injectors left and 70 bullets 🤷.
Only had one blister head spawn because of this as well

You can die from one chainsaw hit? Whaaaaaaaaaat? Bro this shit is so fucking gore and graphical :messenger_fearful:

I love it!

Somehow I executed Doctor Chainsaw with an instant takedown with so damn style, damn. No idea how I did it thought 🤣

More poor writing - Grace in Care Centre when she has to take Emily to read that puzzle box: So start of the scene when she is about to unlock the level 3 door to free Emily, THAT's when she thinks about asking why Emily was put in there? Really? And even then in the conversation Emily sounds more like the adult. Then when she places Emily down on the sofa and then picks her up again, all she says is "I'm just gonna" and picks her up. How about you let the blind girl know what you're about to do? Another thing, when she is carrying Emily across, she doesn't tell Emily anything about the loud Zombie noises and neither does Emily ask about them.

This whole sequence is just very poorly written.

Is this something I should play if I haven't played other games in the series?

It's very much memberberries and fanservice: the game so yeah you're not going to get the most out of it if you jump in at this stage, not to mention that the plot has a lot of moving parts, callbacks and payoffs even for longtime fans to take in, so a bit of context will obviously help you make sense of it all.

And I'd recommend playing the rest anyway, it's just a great series of terrifcally fun games.

I want you to show me a single Resident Evil with good writing

Done. Give it a 6 or 7 at best. Care Centre was fantastic. RC was dogshit. If you're going to make an action TPS make an action TPS. If you're going to make a survival horror, make a survival horror.

Silent Hill can't come soon enough.

Question, for the gun finisher after a perfect party you need to hit L2 +R2 at close range, right?

By beginning i meant before unlocking some stuff and the blood extractor, since then it has been smooth sailing.

Crazy that the severed hand puzzle has still not been solved lol
imo its the kind of moronic puzzle that SH3 has on hard puzzles settings, like, there is nothing in the game to help you solve that Sun, Moon, Star code ( and that is the first part of the puzzle ), you hate to go out your way or be a astrophysicist to understand that shit.

This is my first RE. Learning experience I guess.

No problem, I played re2 when I was 10 years old so I am a veteran

When you play resident evil you play for the atmosphere, gameplay, puzzles and horror.

The story has never been good or the reason to play these games

Lol at the Leon section with a bunch of Zombies, that trashy music and Leon's snarky comments. Was actually enjoyable weirdly enough.

disagree, imo the story of RE is one of the major reasons ppl keep playing, it may not be a great story i give you that, but its a major thing for the franchise.

Where are you getting all those injectors or are you crafting them? In general I have opted not to craft them because I felt like eight bullets or whatever was a better trade-off most of the time since I can usually defeat an enemy in less than eight bullets for sure. Though I guess that's not inconsideration of the reanimation possibility. So I guess I do have a lot of stored up blood and whatnot that I could craft those with but otherwise I don't find a lot in the environment.

Yeah I completely agree with this. It's very strange firstly that not more is asked to begin with, but then during that sequence there is really no admission or statement about the conditions. You would think that such a thing would surprise someone like that so it would be of the utmost importance to relay at least some information about the condition of the situation so that you don't end up with auditory surprise, shock or whatever. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
