Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Still early on, just finished the second Grace section. The FBI needs to train their cadets how to to take a corner without falling down. Can't say I'm loving this so far.

Are you playing in third person? Those falling down, tripping animations etc only happen in that IIRC. Not in first person.

I am. I don't care much for first person RE. Seems like you take a digger making every turn when been chased which goes from tense to annoying really quickly.

Holy shit, this game does some action sequences I've never seen in a game before. Very early on in the Care Center, Leon (under player control) headshots the zombie with a chainsaw, the chainsaw drops on the ground, it starts spinning, other zombies pour in, and THEY GET SHREDDED BY THE CHAINSAW, with seemingly procedurally generated responses, reacting to the physics realistically. One of them picks it up, but falls over, then the chainsaw PULLS HIM TOWARDS Leon until I can finally headshot him. Leon then picks up the chainsaw and slices those mfers in half.

I'm only an hour or so in, but this game makes a GREAT first impression.

I wasn't able to get the chainsaw. I just would let a zombie with it, kind of tear up the other guys and I would help, lol.

I dont know If agree with all of that, I recently replayed original RERemake and zombies can "command grab" you in that game as well and only counter if you have knife with you. This was also the case with RE2Remake.

I personally have no issue with that because it makes zombies threatening and dangerous.
I started to feel that way with re3 remake. Not sure why exactly, I think something changed to compensate for the dash ability. It's a combination of your lack of mobility, camera control and FOV. They are super slow and stumbling and uncoordinated then suddenly accelerate and grab like they're in the NFL. The old zombies were more predictable and I get why the change had to be made, I just don't like it. Either do rage zombies or Romero zombies.

Still pretty early into the game, but I wish it had a harder difficulty option from the get go. Grace can be quite challenging early on with all the resource management and ribbons, but Leon just feels so OP. Haven't died even once yet, despite being extremely sloppy and reckless so often. Wasted a bunch of ammo? Here's even more! And health too! Even that baby (crunch?) took a single attempt without even knowing what I needed to do other than run around and shoot till he drops.

Hopefully the insanity difficulty makes up for it, but that on first playthrough would have been an ideal experience for me. I'm not even that skilled, but I like banging my head and retrying till I git gud.

Or may be the game gets harder after the care center? Because Grace's sections feels like a game. Leon feels so easy that it is cheapening the badassery for me. I could be watching his part as cutscenes and enjoy it more, to be honest.

Still not far into it, but this game is awesome. The balance between Grace and Leon, as well as the pacing overall, has been excellent.

Visually really impressive, too, with path tracing.

Really getting reminded why I didn't click with RE7/8 with Grace's sections. While good I'm way too much of a wimp for this stuff.

I kind of like the investigation/action switch-up that's going on though, but I could do with a bit less tension. Leon's sections have been fun though.
Are you playing Grace in 1st or 3rd person?
I was also originally worried but playing in 3rd person, improving Grace's skills, and tools etc. made me enjoy her sections mostly.

I think for me this is one of the best looking games I've ever played. The new nest looks so fkn good man. And how satisfying was it throwing an acid bottle at a licker. 👌.

Wrapped up my first playthrough in under 9 hours. That was amazing! If you're an RE fan this is a must play. That's the positive side of things. This was real good. Capcom can keep cranking out the horror. I'm still mentally digesting it. Good stuff.

I was on media black out because we had speed runs by social media journalists out there. I laughed when that guy paid the hooker to beat Elden Ring. This day 1, speedrun kinda sucked tbh. Hope everyone enjoys it.

Don't feel rushed to beat it. Relax and enjoy it. Idk if anyone needs to hear that.

This game is fantastic so far, I think I'm maybe just past the halfway point?

Emily's sequence of turning into a monster was heartbreaking and really well done. Also, the spider sequence in Raccoon City with Leon had me shitting bricks. I cannot stand spiders. Wish they had added an arachnophobia mode.

Seeing how immersive the Grace segments are makes me wish that this game had VR. I get why they didn't do it because of the Leon third person segments but it sure would have been nice to have. RE7 and RE8 VR were incredible.

First person just because that was the recommended approach, so I mostly have myself to blame to be fair. I'll try to stick with it and do 3rd person for a re-play I think.

But man.. I was playing handheld with headphones while on a flight and jumped in my chair at some parts. Thankfully no one was next to me. I think the sound design is a big part of it too, creepy stuff.

Why is this game blowing up so much

Is it just that good or did I miss something

Haven't played these games since re4. Is this sonically better than the ones before or is something else going on

I just don't recall these re games being this popular

RE7 sucks ass.

the awful enemy design, and the awful combat results from that made it unbearable.

this (so far) seems to be a far better rendition of classic RE1 style design...

also the Leon gameplay is badass lol

As a pure horror experience 7 is probably the most effective game in the entire series imo.

As an overall game I slightly prefer this though.

All the recent RE games since 2019 onward have sold 10+ million units each, I'd say the franchise is pretty popular as a whole, yes.

Yeah Capcom just keep making these niche titles for 30 years that no one plays.

Resident evil is in the top 5 franchises for gaming that even normies know about like Mario, Zelda, etc.

This game features Leon who hasn't been in a mainline entry unless you count remakes since RE4. (Resident evil 6 never happened. It's not canon. It's a plague to the franchise)

It's following the best parts of RE2R, RE7, and RE4R. It's also a visual powerhouse on top end PCs and on ps5 pro.

Game is amazing.

The series has pretty much had a second golden age since 7. I would say the best RE games since then are on par with the best RE games from back in the day.

4 was huge when it came out. The first three games were some of the biggest releases of their respective years too. RE is and was a big franchise.

I've played 1-4 and liked them, lost interest after 4 I just thought the quality sorta dived after 4

Looks like I got catching up to do

OG RE0-4 are all different shades of good to great.

RE5 is fun in coop but not so much solo.

RE6 never happened. It's a war crime.

RE7 is a good game with big horror focus. It has little enemy variety but cool bosses.

RE8 is more like RE4 with an action focus. Lots of fun, enemy variety, cool bosses.

RE9 is vastly superior and on par with the franchise highest highs.

All of the remakes are must plays.2&4 being the best remakes.

The whole franchise has sold over 170 million copies.

But let's pretend it's some kind of niche indie title, absolutely.
That seems low for a franchise this size and age tbh

Especially given all the movies and everything

Guessing some of the weaker titles mentioned didn't sell as well?

Edit: chatgpt says there are 30 different re titles hmm

Also, according to the tooltip on the loading screen flashlights do not bother enemies, I've not had any enemy react to the flashlight as far as I can tell because after I saw that tooltip I stopped trying to turn the flashlight off when encountering the enemies.
Lol really? Good to know.

Requiem is simply a peak realization of two core RE design archetypes previously considered at odds, blended to perfection.

The good great:
- NAILS Leon power fantasy and combat gameplay. Next-level RE4R zombie killing action horror evolution with Leon in huge explorable Raccoon City.
- The gas station fight, omg.
- The gore. The hatchet!
- Benchmark resource management survival horror with Grace in Rhodes Hill
- Improved shittting bricks stalker gameplay
- Killer bosses and next-level enemy design
- Corpses mostly do not despawn. Literally shocked to see the mess Grace did when revisiting rooms with Leon. THIS IS THE WAY.
- Just enough fan service, stands strong on its own, never feeling like it's cashing in on nostalgia
- End game "report" unpacking the whole story if you haven't paid attention

The Bad:
- The visit to RCPD is very brief. I was expecting a much larger explorable area
- Some encounters on "Insanity" difficulty are a bit much, even with unlimited ammo

The Ugly:
- Nothing, perhaps one could nitpick that most of Raccoon City is brown-gray, which may become fatiguing by the time you reach RCPD?

Everything screams expensive with no fat to be trimmed left, not a single thing I would change or consider worth complaining about, really.

Grat job Capcom. At this point, it's my GOTY.

9.5/10.

For people having problems with ammo in the grace sections:

Try to kill few enemies as possible until you get 1 or 2 gun power steroids, that way you are gonna be more efficent with bullets.

Whem you aim, wait for the reticle to change shape with the dot in the centre, you do more damage, don't just spam the button.

1 bullet to the head or leg, melee prompt to ko, then a couple of bullet to the head (no spam, wait for the reticle) is the easiest way to kill zombies, using the knife while they are down can probably save you something aswell.

If you manage to get a melee knife and have some bullets to spare, maybe killing the butcher is not a bad idea, he indirectly give you something than enhance something that let you save some bullets, not gonna say more.

Beginning is rough but after a bit the situation get much better when it comes to ammo economy.

So I just finished it. And I guess I got the bad ending. I'm not sure what's the point of multiple endings if one is not cannon.

Now that it's finished I'm surprised that there wasn't some bigger role for sherry. I figured she'd be in the field at some point. Also no ada was a surprise, also there was no other supporting characters. I was disappointed with that a bit. I figured since this is such a monumental game going back to raccoon city that you'd see the others like Jill or Claire. Oh well, what a game.

The end for an incredible ride. I ended up at 18 hours and 44 minutes.

Aren't these games on switch
yeah but after Resident Evil 4 2005, Nintendo consoles would wait 13 years until the "release" of Resident Evil 7 that can only be played on the cloud and the other titles after.

13 years is a lot of time for ppl to forget about this "not so popular" franchise

yea the alternative ending was kinda pointless. BTW was this what the outrage was about as things started leaking?

re4 was the last one i played so maybe you're right, although I owned a ps1-4 so it's not like I couldn't play them. But yes most my playtime is usually Nintendo

fwiw the wii motion controls are really good on re4

I'm not sure what's the outrage was. Maybe it was what happened to Emily. Or how ridiculous that bike scene was with Gideon getting killed. I'm going to assume people lost their shit that Leon died in this ending or maybe the fact that it was so dumb to have two endings.

I used hemolytic injectors on the chef, and the singer in the bar. Much easier lol

Actually I used a bunch of them, to clear certain paths entirely of enemies.

My god this game's atmosphere is intense as fuck especially in Grace section.

I think I like this game as much as OG RERemake and RE2Remake.

The sound design and gore is….

I arrived to Raccoon City and I am very impressed with this game so far, its a really good game

That being said, pathtracing in Raccoon City does not look good, there is so much ghosting and noise when moving the camera, it looks terrible unfortunately. Maybe the time of the day has some influence in showing the weaknesses of pathtracing. I am not sure I am not expert on this but I definitely recommend everyone to just turn raytracing instead when arriving to RC

OK, the Spider may be the worst boss fight in all RE franchise, what uninspired and boring fight.. Jesus.

This is a fucking RIDE man holy shit. I missed games like this so much. Tight, well paced, no open world bloat, no skill trees, no grinding, no bullshit

"I'm expecting zero replay-ability from this"
First time I ever heard this about a RE game (outside of 6)
Well, your mileage may vary, but for me I think it feels a bit too hemmed in/on rails to feel like it won't be exactly the same every time.

That might just be a me thing though, and as I said I'm still early on in it.

I didn't even tried with the butcher because i though big enemies were resistant to the stealth kill :lollipop_grinning_sweat: , but i fought him with the better 9mm pistol after 2 gun power steroids so i didn't wasted much ammo.

Check the dlss settings. Mine resets to performance after every restart. Had to set to quality all the time

Enjoying NG+

I think I will go for the plat which can technically be done in 3 playthroughs (using save reloads to farm specific trophies) but I'm going to do it in 4, the game is exceptional enough to warrant it 👌
