Marathon Server Slam (Feb 26 - Mar 2) 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 π™Žπ™€ π™Šπ™«π™šπ™§ / π™’π™š'π™§π™š π™Žπ™€ π˜½π™–π™˜π™

This was supposed to be the safe thread…
Until it's an OT thread, no thread is safe, unfortunately. The desire for this game to fail is just too strong apparently, lol.

But I miss arena shooters even more. A Quake 3, Ut99 etc are missing from todays games.

This could have been a Halo 2.0 multiplayer wise with pvp. But alas Im not interested in their take on an extraction shooter
You and I both dude. I wish arena shooters would come back more than anything else. I think there is most definitely a world for them, they just need to evolve. I think one of the biggest issues they'd have these days is player retention.

The build crafting in this game is f***ing awesome.
I thought you were out?

That's not the purpose. You're extracting to beat the Marathon ship.

What I'm saying tho is I don't find extraction in itself enough to carry a game, the little blips of pvp that ruin runs or whatever isn't enough, I need more modes and more satisfying pvp in matches to really dive in it's why most shooters have multiple modes.

Didn't wanted to play more before release, but i just played a few more rounds. Loving the solo. Got bunch of kills again. Everyone is assassin lol yet im destroying with the destroyer. Im never gonna get used to the reload cancel when sprinting. I really dont get the complaint about the frequency of the pvp. I usually get 2-3 kills every round and these are like 10-15 min runs. Maybe its different in groups

Yeah apparently Perimeter (Beginner) was meant to have a lot less players as it's a beginner area. But I don't think there was ever any text mentioning that, unless I missed it. But I'm assuming there wasn't because apparently a lot of people missed it, lmao.

I don't feel comfortable enough after the way I've been treated here the last 24 hours. For months I saw us as a brotherhood, a Marathon brotherhood. Now, I am doubtful there was a bond at all.

Isn't beginner Perimeter only available for two runs anyway? FIrst time I was in and out without seeing anyone, second time I got wasted by UESC and then the option was gone.

It's them playing perimeter beginner which intentionally loads in less players to ease you in.

Regular perimeter or dire marsh solo I fight 3 dudes easy and then bail out.

Very likely! I thought I saw it around longer than that. Maybe it was tied to rank? Cause after hitting 4 I didn't notice it anymore?

Yeah, it's a weird choice to add more players, but maybe that's just them testing it. There do need to be more players though.

Everything still feels too safe.

Can't floss his way out of this one.

How are people running out of ammo? Not once did I run out of ammo in all my runs, Been running in Squads so maybe it's the Solos, I've just been ignoring all the AI bots and only killing the ones I really have to kill when I can see there's no other way around them, even then they are very quick to kill with just melee and headshots most of the time and they even drop ammo occasionally, if anything I'm finding plenty of ammo by just looting and focusing on real players.

I haven't played much today as I wanted to play some RE and it's super nice today so I just sat outside on my porch and listened to LSM with a lemonade while I iced my knee.

My biggest complaint though with the game I think is the same a lot of people have. It's the ammo. I feel like I have to hoard ammo when I find it because I never find any which means I'm always out of room to pick up actual loot.

I never saw an enemy player whenever I played beginner Perimeter so I assumed they dropped your team in alone to ease you in.

The cost of consumables is way too much. Get in a fight with a few NCP's burn through a few shields, health packs and ammo and it basically costs you about 3 grand

Gotta give it time to see what the economy is actually like. If we git gud creds may not be an issue

Dunno, every second round i had no ammo.

Yea that's just not enough for me especially the work that goes in and frustrations. In destiny I solod my not forgotten and lunas howl, which were insane to get and that felt like a payoff that was so rewarding, the idea of me maybe then losing those guns because I got randomly plowed just sucks to even think about.

I stick to what I say it's such a niche genre, I think that is going to bury it given it seems that genre aleady has its foundational games
It works the other way too. I go into rounds of arc naked and hunt geared players like dogs with a pick hammer and the grenades/guns I find in the map. One kill and you've skipped a lot of tedium. Accepting that you're just borrowing gear is part of the loop. Cosmetics and similar that mark your successes and events are the long term draw.

... Stills playing it... Don't get triggered

Real talk, that UI is a fucking war crime.

Still love the feel of Bungie's shooting but it's just a bland ass game. If people like raiding the MoMA with their friends to loot for garbage, more power to them.

I am hard passing for now and might check it out in the future when they bring the Marathon ship from the original game as a zone. I am interested to see how that translate into game but not at all feeling this modern art vibe.

The Marathon ship zone is an end game zone. You aren't going to want to (possibly can't) just hop into it.

Spent a few more hours on it, unlocked more factions, now finally at lvl 10. I decisively like this way more than Arc. I'm leaning heavily towards a purchase. Minor nitpick, the square button is normally the interact button but while looting its drop item. I keep dropping items while looting because of this, its aggaravating.

I also like the pvp in this more than D2. It feels snappier? Maybe its the lack of traversal abilities.

Dont really mind the menu UI, it gives the whole game an identity. I didnt find it particularly hard to navigate, maybe I'm just used to Bungie stuff. Although I will say having to go through and read the description of each items does take time and isnt quickly identifiable. But i suppose its a design choice, maybe you arent meant to buildcraft during a raid, just loot and extract.

Now would be the time for that roadmap Bungo. I'm invested.

I have never played an extraction shooter until now. This is so different for me, but I have been enjoying it! Solos so far have been great, and a go to way to ease me into learning the game. I didn't understand the appeal until I had some loot and got killed. Realizing that I can't get my items back is the tension I think most players tell me they enjoy from the genre. Played with some friends before work today and it was pretty damn fun. We had a ball figuring out things in the game and have been enjoying it. After the scandal about the art I was wondering how it would all come together, but I really like the look of the game so far. The artwork and fonts are so cool. Someone in here earlier mentioned a warm DOS computer look something retro but futuristic new. Also those neon bright colors on the buildings are so eye catching. Not obnoxious at all for me. Music and audio has been wonderful. The art, audio, and gameplay have made this really immersive for me. Every time I load my ghost up its not the usual okay here your responding into the game. It feels like I have plugged my head into a headset and just get warped into the world. Something with the way my mind is perceiving entering the world just feels so delightful and scary. I also love how it feels in the hands on controller. I'm playing on PlayStation and its wild how the original control scheme is basically my Halo 3 muscle memory coming back. I'm going to play some more of it during the Server Slam, but I think this is a day 1 purchase for me. My only thing I wish we had was a solo offline story just to give me as a player something to do to shake things up outside the main extraction mode. Also someone mentioned an arena 4 VS 4 with your equipment you get in the game. That would be interesting. Marathon gets my approval!
