Marathon Server Slam (Feb 26 - Mar 2) 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 π™Žπ™€ π™Šπ™«π™šπ™§ / π™’π™š'π™§π™š π™Žπ™€ π˜½π™–π™˜π™

Loved the destiny series so it legit makes me sad to see this game not looking so hot... I played several matches earlier and it didn't really click with me.

I guess I am officially gonna pass on this one.

Boo.

Can someone answer this tho have they said what end game is? So you have good runs but what is the end game goal? Genuinely curious
There is a ranked mode to grind for rewards and leaderboards. There is also a 4th map teased with a raid boss like event tied to the story. I assume this will involve multiple groups of 3s working to defeat then likely fight each other to see who can claim the loot.

The roadmap is a mystery still beyond this. A lot of the game is shrouded in mystery.

I've only played a few runs so far. On PS5. Too early to tell - but I like the game so far. I also find it a bit more accessible and relaxing than Arc Raiders (which I also like).

My biggest issue so far is its too hard to tell players apart from the robots at distance.

In ARC it's easy because 100% of other Raiders are players and 100% of robots are AI. They don't look remotely similar.

But in my first few matches, I seem to keep coming across enemy players in blue outfits, which looks exactly like blue robots. They need to rework enemy player visuals to make them distinct from bots at any distance.

I need this to be said but menuing takes too much of your time in the match because of the "scavenging/scanning" containers and stuff. It shouldn't be that slow, even if the game's pace isn't that fast (can't say the same about the time to kill).
You can buy upgrades that lower the time it takes for loot to populate in menus... but yes, I'm not a fan of that mechanic in these games either.

I just downloaded it and played it for the first time and had a major fail. I started the tutorial and then the controls weren't inverted. Went into the settings to change it (the UI kinda sucks or will take some time getting used to) and changed the settings. Backed out and must of pressed the wrong button and it took me out of the tutorial. Then I couldn't figure out how to access the tutorial in the menu and just went into a match cold and just roamed around the desert like Cain, searching for the burning bush to talk to me and give me guidance. I killed a few bots and then I think I got killed by a player. My teammates didn't seem to know WTF was going on either and were just wondering around as well. 🀣

I need to watch some Marathon instructional videos on YouTube, just so that I'm not flailing around like the village idiot. 🫣

Am I missing something or can the tutorial really not be played again?

Tutorial is worthless. Just tells you how to loot, shoot, and leave.

I was using the destroyer shell. I couldn't figure out how his homing rockets work. Activate it and it sorta does nothing?

Anyone know what the deal is?

This has to be the worst audio info ever in a game. I can never hear people or they sound just like bots.

Fine I can assume everything is a person for feet but if I never hear someone at all? Wtf…

The game is growing on me, there are indeed things Bungie need to tackle right away. First is differentiating bots from actual players. Second is speed up the pace of the game and the third is fix the UI explaining what items in the field do.

This tripped me up in the first alpha. Once it's active it fires bursts of homing rockets (damage+stun) as as you fire your gun. So if you pop it but aren't shooting your gun it does nothing. I just caught some poor guy swarmed by bots and blasted him with it :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I ran out of ammo at exfil, no wonder it didn't work πŸ˜‚

UESC commander just kicked my ass. I'm sure everyone will figure out the AI before long but man they're tough at the start.

200.webp

Yeah, I don't really get the UI complaints.

Is it perfect? No, but it's easy as fuck to figure out. I've played a whopping two matches and have no issues.

What a fucking run! 3 kills solo. One was a duo working together. Big dick loot, hard quest done, and we got out!

That's that rush Arc never gives.

I turned down gameplay music to 0.

I like the story they hinted at about a ship vanishing for a hundred years and getting a distress signal enough that I wish this was a single player game strictly to explore that idea but it reminds of that joke of a story mode for the original Titanfall for anyone who remembers that.
Uh, well you see, about that

This bastardization extraction shooter is actually based on one of the greatest obscure FPS trilogies of the 1990's. It was super obscure because they were for Mac only except Marathon 2 which got a Windows 95 version. But the source material for Marathon pre-dates whatever the fuck this 2026 game is by 30+ years

Then there's me over here killing a runner and forgetting to reload my gun.

Sneak up on the next dude, two shots CLICK he turns around and blasts me :messenger_tears_of_joy:

This game is fire but its like asking a Tetris world champion to play chess and the only guidance is not to die.

How's the game so far guys? I didn't register for the beta, can I still join it?

Only had time to play five matches tonight, but I've enjoyed it so far.

The different shells are great, and I haven't played all of them yet. Vandal is my favorite so far. Only had a few encounters with player teams so far and we've won every fight. Assassin seems up my alley so will give that a go tomorrow.

For me it's easier to move around the containers and your inventory than in ARC Raiders. My biggest complaint so far with the UI is that info box when hovering over something takes too long to appear. Quickly grabbing items you want or need will get easier as I get used to them.

Gunplay is great, and with my curve set to linear and sensitive to about 9 I have it in a comfortable spot. Using Up on D-pad to ping is going to take some getting used to.

I dig this. It's like tarkov without all the stupid time wasters like googling where the damn exits are. The dark moody sci fi feel is awesome. Much more sweaty than I expected bungie to go for.

I fell in love with the visual design. The use of fonts is just outstanding. Reminded me of armored core 1. I've never seen mismatched fonts look so intentional and cool.

I'm so confused by the ui complaints. I don't know maybe years of mmos and gacha games have prepared me for this.

I'm in love bros. I'm shocked Bungie made a game this niche. Despite all the dev hell and drama it still feels like a weird lil passion project. Almost like after ten years of Halo and fifteen years of Destiny they made a game just for themselves (and me and a few dozen other sickos). I hope it survives and Bungie thrives but if this game is the one that kills them, at least they died doing what they love.

It hooked me right away wasn't expecting that. The sound world everything is just great and the bots are a challenge unlike arc

So this may be a dumb question:

They added proximity chat right? How do I ensure my headset on my pc works with the game? Does it just do it by default? Most if not all of my normal headset use is in discord, so I'm woefully unfamiliar with in game voice chat features on pc lol

Somewhere in the options it lets you select the mic and voice chat output device, so check there if it doesn't work by default.

I was playing solo, late in the game, only one extract, a ton of these insane bots with trip mines and super speedy showed up and almost wrecked me.

Thank god for the smoke grenade on the assassin.

Im havinggg funnn, gonna play with friends this weekend, everyone is busy on weekdays :(

Hell yeah man. The shitposters have all gone to bed so now the people actually playing the game are mostly loving it.
Hey I'm one of the bigger shit posters and I'm about to give it a go

Not all of us just blindly hate

I literally just learned from this thread that you don't have to be part of some sort of beta so if I can easily access, why not

I haven't had that issue. I could pretty easily tell the difference between runners and UESC and especially between the heavy UESC and regular. The only enemies I could barely ever hear were the little tick guys.

I can't imagine it's a platform issue but what platform are you playing on? Do you have any like spatial settings turned on?

Fucking clankers man.

Me and my buddy that I played tons of Tarkov with tried getting multiple people to play Tarkov and every single person got so annoyed by having to figure out the extractions that none of them stuck with it. It ended up just being me and him.

It should ask you during setup how you want it set up. I think by default it's Y for proximity chat and open mic for team chat.

I was on TV stereo and swapped to my headphones. Issue resolved.

Don't agree with the 2nd point, I think the pacing is good. Firefights are intense but give you a minute to breathe after. I don't need it to be cracked out the whole time

The maps definitely ramp up in intensity. Perimeter seems pretty chill but Dire Marsh kicked my ass immediately. We know from the playtests that Outpost is a clusterfuck too.
