True, if Sony paid the 9 million dollar break up fee which they may haveI think Jason's overall point is that things can change just like a license agreement.

I think they needed to make a decision. Either they start porting every game day and date, or they stick with exclusives. It seems like they've chosen the second option. I'm sure Nishino was a key influence here. He clearly wants to strengthen the platform.I think they were testing the waters for what games have appeal and PC and what games do not. Their big brands like Spider-Man or God of War, I see them continuing since those did fairly well. The lesser brands such as Astrobot and LBP and even big ones like TLOU probably won't be ported in the future since the reception was lukewarm on PC.
They tested the market and saw what works and what doesn't and will port their games accordingly.

It's because they release them a year later, if they released on both pc and ps5 day 1 numbers would be completely different, they should try this before they drop itSeems to me like they decided that PC releases are more cannibalization than incremental, I.e. They are more trouble than their worth.
PS5 is selling as well as the PS4. Stop the fanboy tears.
It doesn't matter what you think. Having no exclusives devalues your console. End of story. You're right I couldn't enjoy my playstation cause other people played the games on their PC
Yeah, pickings have been slim.tbh do they really even have much exclusives to port?
For this year they have
- Soros ... aka spiritual squel to critiacally aclaimed game that sold poorly
- Wolverine ... aka licenced IP
- inde GoW spinoff - thats critical fail and just released
Gaas
-Horizon MP ... also on PC gaas
- 4Loop ... also on PC gaas
- Faigame$ ... concord 2.0 , also on PC gaas
- Marathon ... multiplat gaas
2nd Parties
- Kena 2 .. also on PC second party
-Phantom Blade Zero .. also on PC second party
- Marvel tokon - also on PC licenced IP
future 1st parties
- GoW trilogy .... years away
- Inrergalactic .... years away
oh and yearly baseball game lol
and from last year
- 2nd Party Death stranding - which got just pc announced
- Yotei - too soon to even think of porting
- Atrobot - basically brand the game ... that was never happening
and other 2nd parties already are on PC (Ronin and Stellar Booty)
you need to have some actuall games first before talking of backing away
Probably the dumbest idea. We already saw what that did to Xbox. Sony would have to reach new levels of hubris to think they could side step the same outcome while doing the same thing as Microsoft. It's because they release them a year later, if they released on both pc and ps5 day 1 numbers would be completely different, they should try this before they drop it

I don't think day and date was ever in consideration to be honest. It just wouldn't have made sense. Even back then, I think Hulst said that it was on a case by case basis and we saw it was since they didn't port obvious winners like Demon's Souls. I doubt we never see a single-player Sony game again on PC, but I do think the only ones they'll port are those that can do big numbers like Ghost of Yotei. The other titles were really hit or miss, with the first God of War and Horizon doing well, but their sequels presumably seeing lackluster sales.I think they needed to make a decision. But I never said a contract can't be changed? I just went with the elements we have and so far there is no reason to think things have changed.Ok and the bolded section is the only point I was trying to make. I don't know or care how much Sony loses on PC. My whole point was that the leak with the license terms doesn't mean it's impossible for things to change. In fact out of all their exclusives I feel like the Marvels ones are the biggest system seller.
I dislike the side quests and the characters (that radio girl was AWFUL). Despite that Spider-Man 2 is very good to just have fun web swinging, I still play it from time to time (I just reinstalled it on PC and I might have to install the first one as I want to try the multiplayer mod!). Fun fact: Spider-Man games are some of my favourite with Web of Shadows being at the top. A perfect game would be Web of Shadows with the tech of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, that would be an instant banger.I know those games are hated here but people love them. My son is 7 and Spiderman 2 is the only single player game other than the Astrobot demo that's he's beaten. He still goes back to Spiderman 2 every now and then just to mess around in the world.
That's why I think it's not happening and Wolverine will release on PC.True, if Sony paid the 9 million dollar break up fee which they may have
Asha putting the fear of God in them
AgreedThat's why I think it's not happening and Wolverine will release on PC.
If this news is true, I wonder why they bother keeping Nixxies around. They might be up next on the chopping block.
Holy shit that's awful. And only after 6 years they realized it's time to pull the plug? Sony is so fucking dumb it's unbelievable.Someone on the purple forum did a revenue split based on the latest data sony provided about Playstation...and the PC / Xbox / Switch etc... revenue is that tiny orange thing. It's virtually meaningless. This isn't that surprising tbh

GT7What exclusive AAA-games for PS5 are currently missing on PC?
- Astro Bot
- Yotei
Did I miss anything?
The break up free is your assumption though. They may have not needed that at all.Agreed
Pay a huge break up fee AND walk away from PC money?

There can't be many people buying PlayStations just for Sony Exclusives who also have nice PCs. Even if there are, these people are not the customers Sony wants buying PS because they would just buy 1 game per year. The 30% margin selling these people games and maybe an extra controller would have to outweigh the cash coming on on their PC ports minus the cost. If they drop the PC port game it won't be out of protecting the PS brand, it would be because their games aren't selling that much. The true demise of Xbox was set in stone the day they announced that all their exclusives would go to PC.
Sony would be smart to not replicate the mistake further
Its on the agreement slide, but maybe Marvel pulled a "I'm just kidding" who knowsThe break up free is your assumption though. They may have not needed that at all.
I can't confirm or rule anything out, but Nixxes could continue operating as a support studio like with Saros, ports to other consoles of live service games like with Helldivers 2, remasters like HZD, or helping external studios who publish under SIE to port their games to PC like they're doing with Death Stranding 2.Then Nixxes will get shut down next?
Nixxes are port gurus in general. They will probably help handle the portable ports. Then Nixxes will get shut down next?
The PC fanboys' feelings? I agree, they don't matter. But what about the fanboys feelings???
The only reasoning I could think of is that they are worried about the Steam machine and Xbox allowing Steam install for next gen. I don't really see it as a threat to them but maybe they consider it a better safe than sorry situation. So they stop the ports for now, see how things go next gen for Xbox and pick it back up later if it fails.Agreed

What I meant is that they never truly embraced the strategy, and because of that, the results don't seem favorable — to the point where they should make a choice: either lean even further into the idea or give it up. Maybe the number of people they reached on PC was too small to justify the risk of devaluing the brand. Maybe the Steam Machine and the next Xbox even contributed to that.I don't think day and date was ever in consideration to be honest. It just wouldn't have made sense. This post needs to be screenshotted and used as a reference for the definition of "irony" on Google. The PC fanboys' feelings? I agree, they don't matter.
Everybody except Nintendo does it and studios are still getting closed left and right. It's one of many ways to bring in more money, because they think it's needed. Nintendo can opt out because they don't waste $100m on AAAA movie games.Big difference between Sony and MS. Sony doesn't need to put its games elsewhere, whereas MS has no choice but to do so if they want their Xbox devision to survive another decade.
Nixxes are port gurus in general. They will probably help handle the portable ports.
Huh? They have a port studio that ports games after they are released on PS5. While there needs to be some collaboration there is no way that this is hurting their output, especially when all devs are taking longer and longer to release games. It's been a catastrophic and non-lucrative key thread in Sony's strategy. I'm confident in saying that it's compromised their pipeline and made the games worse.
If this happens, it'll be solidified when Hermen and Totoki get ousted.
Exclusives add value to a platform. Depending on their strategy this might still make sense. But they need to find new console players, not continue to migrate the same old 100M to the new gen.
Ok I didn't see that slide. Its on the agreement slide, but maybe Marvel pulled a "I'm just kidding" who knows
He knows whether what he's saying is accurate or not but I don't. All I can go on is his professional credibility, which he previously chose to sacrifice to own the chuds. If more serious voices report the same thing, I'll take it more seriously. You and I both know, that is not what this is. Whether it's a good idea or bad idea to engage with idiots on forums is maybe up for debate. But ultimately, that is not important.
The ABSOLUTE only thing that matters here is accuracy. Any other feelings involved on either side, don't mean anything.
Yes but how much overlap is there?Get them from Xbox. Would that be so hard?

i think GT7 is just too far in its gaas cycle to bring new platform inYeah, pickings have been slim.
GT7 skipping PC is the only surprising one to me because there's a huge community of sim racing enthusiasts there. I just assumed the licensing hurdle was more trouble than its worth.
It would be cool if they did some Wipeout collections and other stuff like Resistance. I'm not sure they'd do huge numbers though. They could use Nixxies to do something you know... for their systems????
If this is for all the future X-men games as well then no this is nothing really.Ok I didn't see that slide.
If it's a huge strategy change, 9 million is not breaking the bank for Sony.
I'm sure Jimbo and his disciple Herman Hulst would choose the wrong one too.Doesn't seem like a hard choice to make
Only Phil Spencer could make the wrong one....
