Marathon Server Slam (Feb 26 - Mar 2) 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 π™Žπ™€ π™Šπ™«π™šπ™§ / π™’π™š'π™§π™š π™Žπ™€ π˜½π™–π™˜π™

It's interesting how people's brains are so warped that anything square or with straight lines somehow = Minecraft or Lego?
Insane lol. The lengths people go.

Yeah, I don't get it either. It basically just translates to, "I don't like the look and art style", which is understandable. Can't expect everyone out there to like everything, but clearly there are people that do.

Because it literally is? Nothing to do with warped brain or anything, its basically the way they went with the concept of this game. Weapons are mostly blocks glue to each other, with block-themed skins for some reason. The spawn animation has block themed animations, your hack system has a "correct answer" animation made out of single pixels, even death animations in this game are a bunch of blocks breaking down. What an incredibly dumb comment. Being blind is something but being incredibly obtuse to what is right in front of your eye is something else entirelly. And this is not me having anything against you folk who like this, but the commentary about the "lenght" is straight out forced.

I was thinking about trying this but after Bluepoint my enthusiasm dipped. When I asked some friends to see if they wanted to play they talked me into the wow expansion early access instead lol. Very curious what numbers this game eventually does.

Yeah the connection isn't far fetched by any means. I wasn't agreeing with that, just more so that the game has a particular look and aesthetic that isn't for everyone. Folks like it, folks hate it. I just respect that they felt this was the path they'd go in for a big budget game, it's a pretty bold choice.

I'm curious myself. I can't help but feel like the amount of people that don't care overwhelm the people that are upset about Bluepoint's closure. Boycotting Marathon as a result of that isn't going to have some remarkable outcome I feel. Majority I've seen with that sentiment were never into extraction shooters or shooters to begin with.

Marathon is strong!

for me, this game will live or die depending on if it has good gunplay... or if it has Bungie gunplay.
if it is the latter, my interest will instantly vanish.

Well, it's Bungie, and their gunplay has always felt pretty similar in all titles. Not that it's a bad thing IMO. I just highly doubt that it's going to suddenly feel VERY different.

it's an issue in this genre. you can't have excessive aim assist, basically no recoil, and bullet magnetism in a cross-platform extraction shooter.

it's fine in something like Destiny, where PvE is the main focus, or in old Halo games where people didn't yet fully figure out how to properly do aiming on a controller.

but in 2026, in a genre like this, it is completely inappropriate.

also the aim feel on controller better be basically completely different from any other game they ever made, because that is also just awful in Destiny 2 still (or was... not sure if they revamped it since launch)

I think people hoping for another Concord are going to be dissapointed. I'm not saying its going to be a hit but i expect a 'solid' start.

For me, this could be the best game of all time and i still wouldnt play it. I DESPISE how it looks.

Arc Raiders Playtest peaked at 190,000

Where do you see Marathon landing? I'm going to give it a shot but really do not like the art

Marathon feels like Destiny before they tripled down on abilities. Movement feels heavier, cover and positioning actually matters, but the gunplay feels like Bungie gunplay. I think that is a very good thing.

I hope there's enough space for that many players tomorrow lol. I'm expecting to be in a queue for most of the first day.

Sorry, but I haven't really played GAAS slop before, but is this a free demo? I can just download and play the opening to the story? Do I need to pay extra for the PS online account for PS5? What about if I try via Steam?

This is exactly what I'm talking about. People who have no interest in the game or genre wishing the game to fail because:

"fuck Sony"
"fuck GaaS"
"fuck the industry"
What? Guy points out a bunch of fake PR bot accounts trying to game the algorithm. And he's a dick for doing that?

Pick a platform and download. PS plus is required to play multiplayer games and is not free.

This game doesn't have a story you can play the opening of. It's a PvPvE game. The narrative is told outside of the moment to moment gameplay.

It plays like a refined Destiny shooting wise (not movement) I guarantee you'll hate it.

Can't wait to see the CCU on this GAAS DOA woke trash. If it isn't DOA then hopefully it dies a quick death then Sony can get back to making single player games.

Just kidding, Marathon day ladies. Lets fucking go!

I'll probably give this a go over the weekend. At the very least I'll be helpful cannon fodder for somebody.
Best played with a premade or Solo, which was very difficult (in a good way) unless they made changes to how lobbies work, which I doubt.

Randoms experience was miserable as you would expect. I hope they made some changes to the contracts system or at least attempt to match you with people working on the same one or same faction at the very least.

Ill be running Medic in a effort to keep the retards from dying when they inevitably run off in different directions from the off.

Arc Raiders is on a steady but manageable decline for now. If this server slam works out, that could win over some people who stopped playing Arc for various reasons. Not speaking to some idea that Marathon usurps Arc Raiders or matches its peak playerbase. Just that this is a big opportunity for Marathon to secure its own solid foundational playerbase with some bored Arc players in addition to others.

Been thinking about this, even mighty immortal COD, which has gameplay that absolutely shits on anything made by man, experiences decline cycles.

It all depends on the publisher, what Embark and Sony interprets as success and expects could be two entirely different things. It's just an unknown.

But who gives a shit about any of this, really, if the game's cool it'll be cool.

Interested to see how this lands.

There's a hell of a lot of folks bounced off Arc for various reason. Bungie claims to have found solutions to a lot of the gripes a lot of players had with that game. End game loop, PVP, free loadouts etc.

I don't know why everyone expects all games to last forever. Games are released, people play them. New games are released, people play them too. Some last longer, some don't.

In the case of arc raiders I think they hid too many fun recipes behind randomness, and the core "big boss" mechanic kind of clashes with the ease if which people can just stat behind and swoop in and take all the loot, sp that dolo players were punished. There marathon does something brilliant with the demon souls-esque "invader" function of hiding amongst the ai for solos.

I think both arc and marathon can gain in the long run from more pvp oriented players going to marathon.

And I say that as someone with quite the player kill count in Arc. Will be interesting to see what marathon is like during the free slam.

Weird one with Arc though. Games like this normally have lull's in between content then defined seasons with meta shifts and content dumps. Then players come flooding back for a while.

Arc trickles content out and small changes here and there. I applaud them for trying a different way, but I don't think its the right way to go.

If Marathon is a hit, then the traditional model of 12-14 week seasons with resets that they are aiming for will work much better for this type of game.

Like you say if its decent, who gives a shit.

Hope it flops BIGLY and we can move beyond these GaaS dark ages that every company is obsessed with
Hope you get more Bluepoint/Navoc size failures and closures for people to stop wishing for game studios flops

Coz it never work one-sided, in current market if GaaS fails, SP fails twice as much.
