Ok, new exercise. Which of those do you fall under, and be honest.

1. Photorealistic gamer
2. Frame rate gamer
3. Gameplay is king gamer
4. I can't use this controller gamer
5. All modern games suck aka nostalgia gamer
6. I don't waste my time with single/multiplayer gamer
7. Achievements/Trophies are stupid gamer
8. I can't goon to this gamer
9. Every game is political gamer
10. Streamer slop gamer
11. Non-conformist gamer
12. Collector gamer
13. Master race/console warrior gamer
14. e-girl gamer
15. Mtx gamer

I'm 2 and 3.
I think i fit best with 7. I don't have an issue with them existing as they can be nice "carrot" excuses to play more of a game you really liked, but i cant wrap my head around people who go after 100% platinum on every game, even the ones they didn't like that much.

"Achievements and Trophies are Meaningless"
I really hope the people who say that also hate shit like 100% games before the achievement systems existed, speedruns, no items/leveling challenge runs, etc that all long predate Xbox achievements and PS trophies.

"All Modern Games Suck"
Mostly true for AAA Western games honestly. Indies, AA, and Asian games are still going strong though.

"It's Too Mainstream"
Not apologizing for this one. If you buy $700+ consoles just for Grand Theft Auto./Call of Duty/some goofy sports game, you're an idiot. That's like getting a library card or a Barnes and Noble membership as a grown adult and only using it to read Berenstain Bear books and Frog and Toad.

"Every Game is Political"
Translation: what lefties like to say to sound smart aka, "media literacy" morons. Agreed that these people are insufferable.

Not listed in the OP, but I know a guy who consistently has the absolute worst taste in games. Spends thousands of dollars a year buying mobile Fire Emblem gacha pulls. Buys new games and "finishes" them quickly (when pressed it turns out he gives up on them then watches the ending sequence on YouTube), then tells you they're trash and not worth your time. Almost without fail will hate on a game I love, while simultaneously loving a game I hate. Claims with a straight face that Nintendo Switch Welcome Tour was his favorite gaming experience of 2025.

Maybe the archetype would be "the contrarian". He is definitely the worst gamer I know personally.

OP, you missed one type. The "must have low input latency" gamer. You know, those annoying people who might come over your house to chill and game, but immediately go into your TV settings to make sure "game mode" is enabled, because heaven forbid they experience an extra 35ms of lag.

You know, the ones who meticulously test the latency of all of their wireless controllers using apps like IsItSnappy to ensure they're always getting the fastest connection. The type of people who refuse to play Super Smash Bros Melee on anything but a CRT, because otherwise "the timing of their L cancels" is all off. And not just Melee, but they don't even want to play retro games on anything but a CRT, because "that's what the developers had in mind when they designed the controls and difficulty".

Those are definitely some of the most annoying gamers.

I'm 100% one of them. 💀

Jaded gamers who think good games no longer exist and every game sucks.

I wish those type of people quit gaming forever but no they spend more time sitting on their ass complaining on gaming forums more than actually playing games.

I try not to judge my fellow gamers, but people posting ChatGPT summaries or entire posts composed by AI? They earn my ire.
Yeah, that one, feels disrespectful.

There are ways to use AI, just copy paste with no advisory attached explaining you did is some seriously shitty behaviour.

There are several types:

- The idiots who harm other players with their incoherent actions.

Example: The controversy of charging $20 for the Pokémon games on Game Boy Advance... or Welcome Tour... Even though they're being ripped off... the idiots still go and buy them.

- Those who, in this example of Hulst closing Bluepoint and other companies, upset the players... and within days they're buying Horizon... Players who aren't united, and who get ripped off too.

- Those who only play commercial games, but don't give other options a chance.

- The "Game Journalists or YouTubers" who don't have a clue and just give unfair ratings or don't finish the games.

- These kinds of stupid reactions,

- Players who don't buy games that are cult classics or masterpieces... and then, as the years go by, they come to appreciate them.

I can't fucking choose just one. Way too many on that list I would choose.

Awesome thread though, and good synopsis of the categories, you're spot on with those descriptions lol

Another one are anti-woke/woke these people love to call every little thing "problematic" or "woke".

Funny thing these two side hate each other's guts and yet they so similar to each other.

Sony fanboy isnt on the list

Funny, based on the votes we have a lot of The " Political" Gamers.
Because let's face it, the two with the highest votes are actually linked and complaining about people complaining about it just means you're the other side of the coin.
Despite that I voted for the framerate guys, if it's stable and displays properly it's fine, you don't need 120fps in every game.

While I also don't understand why people would do it for games they don't like I think a lot of people just like getting the most out of their money?

I'm weird when it comes to trophies/achievements. I definitely don't chase 100%/Platinums but I do go slightly out of my way for some achievements/trophies while playing a game and I generally take a look at the lists while I'm playing a game on PlayStation or Xbox. On Steam though I could care less and it's like they don't even exist and I don't know why. I think I even have the notifications turned off.

If a motherfucker came to my house and opened my TV settings I would kick them out. That's like being in my car (I'm driving) and changing the music without asking.
That being said I generally always ask or tailor what I played based on the person but people messing with the "radio" is my biggest pet peeve.

I've literally stopped a car before when somebody grabbed my phone and put it in front of my face for it to unlock so they could change the music.

The "this game is woke because it has a minority/woman/gay in it" gamer.
This drives me fucking nuts and honestly I immediately dismiss your opinions on essentially everything. There is absolutely some woke shit out there but the simple inclusion of a woman, minority, or gay character in a game does not make it woke.

These people have let politics infest their mind so much that it's all they see.

Uh, whats wrong with this
Yes, games that are released when they're released aren't supported by mainstream games.

And they're not given a chance.

I understand if there's market saturation or other products, but that's precisely why it hurts the talent of developers.

I voted "Gameplay is King" by mistake because it triggered me. How TF can that be annoying?

Gameplay is King. Everything comes after gameplay. It's the fundamental aspect of video games.

Those who play the same copy-paste GAAS and try to justify to others that they're investing their time in something beautiful and meaningful, and that anyone who isn't there is some kind of subhuman.

14. e-girl gamer
15. Mtx gamer

I'm 2 and 3.

I'm only guilty of 2. It's 2026 FFS!

Definitely the "All modern games suck" gamer.
I'd also add, maybe a variation of that type of gamer, the "I only engage with games I'm not interested in or dislike and won't play".

We all know for a long time that the internet is full of cynical and negative people that feed on the attention that same cynicism and negativity they spread. But man, I still can't get used to them. I can only attempt to emphatisize with them and fail every time so much, that now I just default to using the ignore feature on them.

I'm 2 and 3.
Partially 1. I want games to look ultra realistic with all the flashy effects (I played Crysis back in the day at 22 average fps lol and I beat it). But I do love cartoon games. Depends on the game.

12, I have a horrific backlog but not as bad as I described. I do play games.

No matter how good a game is, they're not owned time by anyone. Maybe tastes changed, maybe they never heard of it because they didn't care enough at the time, there are n reasons a person might only play a game only long after it was released.

The woke thing is a byproduct of modern times, 15 years ago people had no problem because their insertion was seen as genuine, nowadays people have been fucked multiple times so i can understand being on alert state when they see some signs.

The kind who gloat about how much money their favorite corpo made followed by the kind who let Metacritic make their decisions.

Console warrior followed by the close second of every game must be modern day political.

Blind devotion to specific hardware is the only convo's I can't take remotely seriously.

Where's the forum poster who doesn't even play the game and does drive by shit posts on a site like NeoGAF, gamer?

Thats the worst. Types shit like concord 3.0, slop, and has 0 intention to engage in a discussion on the game at hand. Revels in watching studios get shut down, jerks off to steam charts numbers, and has an orgasm if something has a low meta critic score.

That's not the audience I'm talking about, my friend.

Here's an example:

A Hat of Time comes out... but then Resident Evil 7, Horizon, Fortnite, and the player thinks... yeah, yeah... those games... but they're not interested in Hat of Time... years go by, years go by—they barely give it a chance and then they say they liked it, and that's what's frustrating.

That it wasn't given the recognition it deserved at launch.

Need an option for all above(voted for them all)

But if you really can't goon to a game then what's the point?

The "Collector" Gamer
These collectors typically only play Super Mario World but never to completion. They suffer from having too many choices of games, but their hobby is only having a game room. They will buy every physical game and never touch them. How do you know? Because they'll tell you that the game is still sealed. They brag about having 5000 games on Steam, but they have only put in 200 hours total in 10 years. I don't even know if these types are gamers.

(only difference is I do actually play a lot of games)

I mean, it can happen. Like i said i don't own stuff like Ninja Gaiden 4 or Silksong a chance because my interest in them is mild, and theres no problem with me happening to really like them if i ever give them the time many years from now.
