Marathon Server Slam (Feb 26 - Mar 2) 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 π™Žπ™€ π™Šπ™«π™šπ™§ / π™’π™š'π™§π™š π™Žπ™€ π˜½π™–π™˜π™

Bluepoint was irrelevant to those Japanese spreadsheet warriors too, the financial expectations for this game could be way beyond what is rational. Just saying.

What are you even saying? If it was up to me Sony would have shut Bungie down the minute they canned the Last of Us online game, that's absolutely a setting where I think an Extraction shooter could work, but Bungie couldn't allow that because of Marathon, however my personal opinion on what Marathon or Bungie are is largely irrelevant to whether Marathon being a moderate success means it's going to outsell Requiem, that's just fact, shooters are a much bigger market than Resident Evil games and if you don't understand that by now then you lack critical thinking skills.

You're 100% on the money about Last of Us being made an extraction game, man that would have been freaking awesome.

Hear what you're saying about shooters vs RE, though. Don't you think that lack of blood and the more risquΓ© art style will hinder the game, though, given the shooter audience it's apparently chasing? Do you remember the first reactions to the game trailer, was surprised people were so negative about it the time. It's still one of the coolest pieces of media out there, IMO, but the bros didn't seem to buy it.

I'm going based on the casual impression, Burnt Peanut done a stream playing it with a developer and he liked it, that sort of thing will carry a lot of weight with the casuals, unless the game controls like shit just the fact it's fresh and a low barrier of entry being $40 will see it get plenty of sales post server slam i think.

I haven't bought it myself, I've hated every game Bungie have ever made, despite being part of the target audience, Halo never vibed with me, Destiny didn't, I hate Sci-Fi shooters unless it's grounded in some sort of reality.

I'm sorry man, I didn't mean to trigger fans of Westerns, nice profile pic. Let me spell it out to you instead, the intangible association of this game with Bluepoint's drama might cause long standing reputational issues with certain segments of people in the influence and review scene. It's also a wild horse, because you're not confident if it's going to flop or do fantastic, so it's up in the air right now, at least in my opinion.

You sound like you simply do not like this game, though, (based on the visuals), that's a bit worrisome because you sound like you're supposed to be its market. That tracks with what I was talking about with the visuals mismatching the intended audience, but maybe people get into it and it does great, have to remember it's still Bungie doing this, they're pros.
"Bluepoint's drama might cause long standing reputational issues with certain segments of people in the influence and review scene"

Is the game even getting criticism in good faith? So far most criticism come from people who have no interest in extraction shooters, especially singleplayer-only players who don't like pvp shooters.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. People who have no interest in the game or genre wishing the game to fail because:

"fuck Sony"
"fuck GaaS"
"fuck the industry"

Oh sorry, yeah its better to support slop and half-baked games, while watching what Concorde and Highguard brought to the table. The @ marathon accounts werent made by haters, its the opposite so yeah, real legit hype right there. Oh and then there was stealing of an artists assets to be used without crediting, yeah...real cute.

Yep, and so with the video games business being so ultra competitive and hyper capitalist these days, demanding everything exist in an air tight vacuum isn't realistic. External and slowly (sometimes not slowly) increasing annoyances will start to bubble and spill over in unintended ways.

The most important thing though is if it's a banger, if it plays awesome, it's a banger!

Good luck with those LABO guns.

The comparison with Concord and Highguard are funny too because it's a completely different genre.

The weapon designs are atrocious though. Unless they went to major redesign, most of the looks like alot of blocks from Minecraft put it together. I think the whole concept of this game is around blocks and pixels.
Weapon design is not my favorite, altho it kinda grew on me, there are some decent looking guns too. The overall art is fantastic tho and im loving it.

Man, if they manage to push this high concept avant garde stuff successfully to normie shooter bro consumers then my mind will be blown.

I do not know if this particular game will appeal to me, but it looks like they've taken a lot of effort to address concerns and probably will also here for whatever they want to patch on Day 1.

I will definitely try the server slam, even if I don't end up getting it.

I loved Dark Zone in Division, but I'm just not as into this type of game. I like Bungie's gunplay, but usually this stuff ends up being such a sweat fest that I'm not finding it enjoyable.

I didn't say RE was going to flop. I just said that it makes no sense to stop videogame releases because a Resident Evil is releasing, specially because both releases aren't comparable.
Marathon will be playable for free for a few days which is when Resident Evil releases as a paid game. But Marathon itself releases like in a week after RE.

Just did a quick google. 12 million, 14 million whatever. You are talking Arc Raiders level of success.
That's not Arc Raiders level of success. The RE number is LTD several years in, Arc Raiders had that in 4 months.

Why even come into this thread if you've already decided you hate the game?

Anyways, MIDA did nothing wrong!

Oh sweet summer child... these people are everywhere. This is their mana, their entertainment. Just ignore their posts

Ah yes, of course the drive by "hurhurhur" posts seep in here like a stink bomb.

I'm honestly hyped about Resident Evil Requiem AND this. It'll be a fun end of week and weekend!

You're so brave and insightful.
No I'm saying this is how all these games go now. Hype than release populate for 30 days than something happens a glitch or a hack and the community just ruins the game. I wanted to like apex and the idea but after playing it alone and in groups it was basically just a toxic game. Marathon got shit on in early plays and now we're hearing glowing praise from the "influencers" I figure if I want to experience it before it gets ruined I should do it now, because in 3 months the community will most likely be moving on to ruin another game.

It's interesting how people's brains are so warped that anything square or with straight lines somehow = Minecraft or Lego?
Insane lol. The lengths people go.

I will always take new different art over the same old things we have every day now. That is the difference between this, and Concord and other games, effort, an actual art style. Even if it's divisive.

I don't follow. Buy game, play game until you are bored and move on or don't.

Its Β£35. If I play it for 50 hours or 300 ill have my monies worth either way.

Yeah, it's clearly going for a 3D-printed/mass produced look with the guns etc. It's cool as hell. If you hate it fine but the "looks like roblox/minecraft/lego" crap is ridiculous :messenger_tears_of_joy:

A lot of it comes from of the DARK AND GRITTY MANLY MAN GAMES FOR MEN crowd. Some folks see bright colors and bold lines and react like a cat being pet the wrong way.

Not the entire community, but this has been happening with every multiplayer game over the past several years. It's just the result of not being able to make everyone happy, and varying personalities I suppose, lol. But if the game lands, and lands well, there will be a good chunk of that community that's invested, devoted, and curious about the future. Hopefully that'll happen here, but we'll see!

Yeah, I don't get it either. It basically just translates to, "I don't like the look and art style", which is understandable. Can't expect everyone out there to like everything, but clearly there are people that do.

ain't nobody got time for that GIF

It's like they want that game to fail. Couldn't have picked a worse weekend.

lol, even if Marathon is a moderate success it will sell more than Requiem anyway.

lol, even if that was the case, Capcom would still make a profit while Marathon will never generate enough to recoup that shitty Bungie acquisition.

Because of Resident Evil Requiem? I'm sure it'll be fine. I mean, both games aren't even somewhat similar. I plan on juggling between the two, I'm sure there are others that plan on doing the same. We've all done it before multiple times.

Pretty sure no live service game will take any sort of significant CCU hit because of RE9 releasing.
