What You'll Play During the Server Slam

The Server Slam is a slice of Marathon's gameplay. Enough to get comfortable, not enough to see everything.

You'll be able to:
  • Infil into two zones:
    • Perimeter, an edge-site expansion on the colony's outskirts
    • Dire Marsh, the colony's agricultural research hub
  • Take on the early contracts for five factions: CyberAcme, NuCaloric, Traxus, MIDA, and Arachne
    • Progress through the early levels and start of the progression trees for each faction
  • Try out five of the six Runner shells that will be available at launch, plus our scavenger experience Rook
  • Play as a crew, solo Runner, form uneasy alliances with proximity chat, and more

Launch and Season 1 will bring additional maps, factions, contracts, gear and more, including:
  • Two more zones
    • Outpost, set in the middle of a thriving UESC military installation
    • Cryo Archive, an end-game zone aboard the derelict UESC Marathon (unlocks during Season 1)
  • Thief, the sixth Runner shell
  • Full progression for all six factions, including additional contracts, deeper upgrade trees, and the addition of the sixth faction Sekiguchi Genetics
  • Ranked mode (unlocks during Season 1)
  • Other secrets and surprises...

Finally its here. Not gonna play much, because of RE9 and its a week aways from actual release, but im glad i can taste it again before launch

I know barely anything about this game, but I'm gonna check it out. Hope it exceeds my low expectations. I love Arc Raiders and I hope this scratches that itch too.

Damn, I'm out of town working that whole period so I'll miss it. I was at first looking forward to watching the game crash and burn but I've since come around and hope that it turns out to be a strong offering.

Uhm... dont think so. RE9 will be huge af.
To be fair, you could still find space in a weekend to check out Marathon. RE9 means people will least be at their respective platforms, snooping around stores, looking for something nice, etc.

Marathon is visually catchy.

Ofc. Also since its so close to release, there is no point no lifing marathon, everything will be wiped anyways. You play for a few hours to get the taste and just waiting for release

Ye...no, RE averages out at around 9 million per game over their lifetime, but that's heavily pulled up by the last 3, it will sell roughly 2/2.5million launch week, maybe 5 million after 5/6 months, which is a success for a Single Player game, for Marathon, they will hit 5 million way quicker if it's a moderate success, but that's the nature of it, people typically buy Multiplayer games earlier in their lifecycle, and if it's good then word of mouth pulls the numbers up even quicker.

How much do you think Marathon cost to make?

The last Resident Evil sold around 14 million copies. You are insane if you think Marathon will do that number, a result would be if it does half that.

Be nice to be proven wrong though.

Way more than it should have, but that's irrelevant when somebody is saying 'oh good luck requiem is out' more people are waiting for Marathon than waiting for Requiem outside of niche forums like Gaf.
Bluepoint was irrelevant to those Japanese spreadsheet warriors too, the financial expectations for this game could be way beyond what is rational. Just saying.

The last one sold 10.6 million as of January 2026 - Village was made available on iPhone/iPad and still only hit 12.2

Just did a quick google. 12 million, 14 million whatever. You are talking Arc Raiders level of success. That doesn't happen to 99% of Live service games.

Like I said, I'd love to be proven wrong as I think the game is excellent, I just don't see it happening.

Moderate success for Bungie is Arc Raiders level of success, a flop would be Tarkov numbers, Destiny 2 sold 35million, in 2019 Destiny as a Franchise was second only to COD in terms of FPS sales. hence, if Marathon is even a MODERATE success it will do bigger numbers than Requiem, people on here have real issues with reading comprehension.

Shouldn't it be higher on the list then?

Looks like we got another wild horse on our hands here, boys! Careful which side you back. Remember seemingly unrelated associations, those are going to stick to you for a loooooooong time!

Yeeeeehaw!

RE games have good long term numbers by selling at discount.

RE4 Remake is always being discounted at -60%

It bothers me that this game's vibe seemed to be targeting the kind of people who are now absolutely furious about Bluepoint.

I saw on youtube that OperatorDrewski is pumping the game, I'd normally associate him with a completely different vibe, that means they probably anticipated things, and are now pivoting to some weird ass markets outside of the prior, I could be completely wrong, but whatever. Maybe the game was reconfigured to appeal to a different audience, the visuals are still a constant, though.

These games that sometimes you can tell started out as something but ended up as something else always have an awkward slant to them, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll do poorly.

Are your posts deliberately cryptic?
lol, even if Marathon is a moderate success it will sell more than Requiem anyway.
Outside of Raider's what kinds of numbers do extraction shooters usually get? Obviously just talking about Steam as the data is easy to find.

I'm sorry man, I didn't mean to trigger fans of Westerns, nice profile pic. Let me spell it out to you instead, the intangible association of this game with Bluepoint's drama might cause long standing reputational issues with certain segments of people in the influence and review scene. It's also a wild horse, because you're not confident if it's going to flop or do fantastic, so it's up in the air right now, at least in my opinion.

You sound like you simply do not like this game, though, (based on the visuals), that's a bit worrisome because you sound like you're supposed to be its market. That tracks with what I was talking about with the visuals mismatching the intended audience, but maybe people get into it and it does great, have to remember it's still Bungie doing this, they're pros.
