Winter Olympics 2026 [OT] - Milano Cortina

I heard it was the first USA ice hockey gold in 46 years. Is it true?
Not sure, but if you count the non-Olympic tournaments where the best American and Canadian NHL players have faced off, there are much more recent times that Canada's lost.

The big one that I'll always remember was the 1996 World Cup of Hockey where Mike Richter pretty much singlehandedly defeated Canada, but there've definitely been others since then.

3on3 is carny horseshit

But Canada should have won that game at least 3-1 in regulation.

Canada is absolute idiots not taking Schaefer and Bouchard.

Props to Hellebuyck

Canada dominated but Binnington couldn't match Hellebuyck. That, and Canada missed two wide open nets. Can't do that in the Olympics.

Congrats to the US, but we all know who dominated who.

Fuck, Canada had it. So many more chances. Helly played unbelievable. Both goalies did.

Bad play on the OT goal as Makar tripped up a bit and didnt get back, leaving Hughes for the goal.

Wow Matthews was on the ice for Makar's goal and was generally invisible throughout the whole game. Team USA really needs to think about going ahead giving Larkin the C like everyone has been saying.

Thats sports. No doubt Canada outplayed the US today. But sometimes the crappier playing team squeaks out a win. Canada squeaked out an OT win against Czech and a final minute barnburner where Canada could had lost either game.

If anything he should publicly admit he was one of the key reasons they fucked up. He and McDavid are supposed to the two main offensive stars and both did zipity-do-dah all game. McDavid missed a breakaway and MacKinnon missed a gigantic open net. And celebrini missed a million chances too. They got the top forwards in the league and they all did zero today.

Then his Avalanche buddy Toews missed an even bigger open net where Helly made a desperation save, and Makar blew it in OT caught out of position and couldnt get back as the trailer. On the first Boldy goal, these two got caught flat footed too and he split the defence scoring. Boldy is a good player, but he's not that good. They made him look like Mario Lemieux streaking right down the middle.

It was a close game and both goalies played awesome. But if there's any ultimate blame to go around, it's actually all the Avalanche guys who blew chances or were defensive pylons.

But Canada as a whole needs to be successful at hockey to at least show the world they dominate in something. So all the hockey players (men and women) know they got a weight on their shoulders. Even in curling (a sport most people dont give a shit about) they failed this year. 3 events and only 1 gold and 1 bronze. If hockey goes, then all the sports fanatics feel down and out other countries bypass them. So it's a patriotic thing down to really 1 major sport. US people will never feel this way because the US can be competitive in lots of events and sports. So even if in the ultra rare occasional Team USA basketball loses (they have a couple times in like 30 years in global tourneys), who really cares since they'll probably win at something else that year.

For me, I wanted them to win. But they lost. Who cares. Maybe I;m the minority, but I believe NHL or NBA championships are more important than any of these global tournaments. I'd rather have Leafs/Jays/Raps win a championship than Team Canada winning a tournament. But thats just me. I'm more interested to see if my Fanduel tickets came in all day.... which they didnt. Got burned on an NCAA basketball game today. Didnt come close. lol

Not gonna lie Mc David trying to be the hero and 1v3 twice in overtime kind of fucked them, both times he could barely get back in time and the second time they scored he really played a terrible overtime. I still think that that 3v3 in a gold medal game is ridiculous it should have been full 5 on 5 and a full period.

I can't even begin to describe how happy I am that Canada didn't win gold in ice hockey. My respect for that country has become much smaller in the last few weeks.

Still waiting on the billiards event… that's part of the Winter Olympics, right?
